About 2000 (give or take 1 year) I was reading a paintballing magazine and one bloke said in an interview "We slapped them down like a red-headed stepchild". I remember LMAO about it because it was such an unusual comment. So I'd say the Ranga comments started catching on since about 2000.
Certainly don't remember hearing them in the '80s or '90s (am I showing my age?)
A line he lifted from Andrew Dice Clay.

Being a reheaded person myself I don't get offended by the abuse I cop from my friends (its all tongue in cheek) and I sometimes poke fun at myself.
But I do object to being abused by people on the street who I don't even know. Was once walking through a pub and was stopped by a bogan f$%k who asked me 'what went so wrong with my hair? and why I wasn't put down as a baby' took all my courage not to punch him fair in the face.
I'm glade I was in primary school 15 years ago and not now though. The kids now are going through a rough period as it's becoming more acceptable to abuse a kid with redhair.

I cop that too. :(

Or when I'm walking home from work like last night and a ******** honks his car horn at me.

You know I think there should be a red hair intervention session and all you red heads should sit around in a circle with a therapist while you vent your frustrations.

Would be a funny amusing therapy session:)

nah sorry, just cant take it seriously, can't you red heads dye your hair if your that sensitive about it- its not a disability, its only hair, truth is, I think most like the attention.

have no sympathy for Rangas:D

Yes, it's only hair. I don't see why people abuse them so much for something so simple and so out of their control as they were born with.

I'm sure they would prefer to have different coloured hair but dying it just to avoid abuse is stupid.

Its stupid, yeah but like anything, if you don't want the abuse, you have to do something about it.

like I said, being a ranga isn't a disability and their are options out there.

If I went around with a mullet or some funny looking weird hair style, or pink hair, would I likely get abuse- yeah I likely would. Red hair is the same, not a disability you can do something about it to avoid attention or just stay the same and put up with it.

You wouldn't really get too much abuse being a red head because its in the genes and eveyone knows that, most wouldn't care about it.

So in saying that you'd also advise people to change the colour of their skin if they're being abused over it

That is rubbish that rangas are not attractive. If someone has a nice face then they have a nice face. Bone structure has nothing to do with the colour of ones hair.

No because, Hair is Hair. Skin is Skin, too completely different things.
Your treating hair as some sort of disability in which you cant do nothing about it if you wanted to.

I'm not advising red heads to dye their hair, I don't mind the red hair look personally but I'm just insisting that if they are that sensitive to remarks from people which is out of their control then maybe they should do something about it.

Or if not then learn to handle a bit of banter about it.

that's the only two options, no if but or maybes about it,
simple really.

now I would roll my eyes like you, but I'm the better man and wont resort to the smiley faces as you do, instead I'm sticking my finger up at the computer in hope that it goes to you.

I'm picturing someone sticking there middle finger up at a computer screen and rolling my eyes in response.

red-haired girls are hot.

the whole ranga thing went viral after Summer Heights High - really I can't see why it isn't seen as being as bad as any other form of discrimination.

Filthy shade chasers. The sheilas are awesome in the cot though, no doubt. Nothing better than when they leave and you get to suck the residuals on your cheezel stained fingers.

Let's get to two ends of the Rangalution spectrum.

On one end of the spectrum you've got an ugly fella.
