This is how i reckon the home and away season will pan out:

1: Carlton - if injures to key players hold, then they probably won't lose too many games - they have the best player in the afl and a host of solid guns like Ratten and Whitnall -

2: Brisbane - The only reason they are not on top is due to the draw where they have to travel 9 times. They have been sensational in the Ansett cup and Voss looks pumped for a big year. Mal Micheal and Martin Pike add depth

3: Hawthorn - Another team on the rise - Nathan Thompson needs to kick at least 70 goals for the Hawks to go anywhere

4: Kangaroos - Should be thereabouts. I don't think Bell's departure should hurt them too much . Sav looks to be in great shape

5: Geelong - Same as last year. They could finisher higher due to an easy draw but we all know how the Catters play against struggling clubs - will probably lose to Freo or WCE at some point

6: Sydney - look sharp and kelly should have a big year

7: Essendon - okay but they won't go back to back nor finish top 4 i'm willing to make a bet on this

8: Bulldogs - Should scrap just in at 8th spot but once again, will bundle out in the first week

9: Melbourne - I had sydney in and melbourne out, mainly due to the fact that they are too reliant on too few, and if injuries hit the fan, they are stuffed

10: Collingwood - They will improve marginally this year, but i would wait to 2002 before talking finals

11: Port Adelaide - One swallow doesn't make a summer - they beat 3 finals teams in Geelong, Sydney and Essendon but both the Dons and Geelong were decimated with injuries/players resting and quite frankly i can't see them winning away from home

12: Fremantle - They won't be as bad as everyone thinks, but their problem is rather like Port's - they are hopeless away from WA

13: St.Kilda - A new list of players and a new coach won't automatically lift this bunch of underachievers. Word is, Aaron Hamill is upset with the lack of professionalism at the place

14: Adealide - Now Gary Ayres is a reasonably good coach, too bad his playing list is UTTER CRAP - with the exception of one or two others

15: Richmond - Now were talking about mediocre lists - everyone talks about Richo being the difference, but the fact is once again Richmond do not have enough talent to even reach the eight, their defense is solid enough, it's a shame their onballers and fowards do not know how to play conhernt, consistent football

16 WCE - a rabble won't win more than 5 gams

I actually researched this topic before i posted it - I do not rate richmond at all simply because most if not all clubs (bar WCE) Improved their lists over summer and all teh Tigers added was an overweight, overpaid st.kilda reject in Sziller. Yes i have issues with the Richmond team as a whole but i will buy a 2002 RFC membership if the tigers make the eight and if they don't, you should buy a 2002 Geelong membership - sounds fair CJH ?

I WOULD LOVE TO DO A LADDER RANKING THE TEAMS. I DO BELIEVE THAT DOING LADDERS ARE DAN 24 SPECIALITY. WHO COULD FORGET HIS RANKING OF BANDWAGON TEAMS. I JUST COULD NOT COMPETE WITH DAN 24.

NO DOUBT DAN 24 WILL DO HIS LADDER IN ACCORDANCE OF THE TEAM HE HATES. SO COLLINGWOOD WILL BE 16TH

Of course G4E, the only research you did on the Tigers was to check how much you hated them.

I still admire Geelongs drafting - picking up players youhad delisted! Brilliant!

Gee the handbag dig ? That is really original TT - I won't resort to childish name calling like most of your fellow Richmond pests, sorry supporters. there is a saying that goes something like this
"The Truth hurts"

I see you offer no constructive comments that argue against my refreshingly honest and intelligent rankings.

Any team that has a spazza like Rory Hilton in it's best 22 has got a lot of problems

I reckon Sydney might be a surpise packet this season. A good midfield, a pretty reasonable defense, and if their forward line can overcome injury problems, they'll be pretty hard to beat on their home turf. I also reckon R.Eade rates quite well as a coach.

I reckon they might be in the 8, come September.

I hope this is the last time we do this!!

Carlton 1st, Essendon 7th, Eagles 16th. Hmmm, you on drugs or just plain stupid.

None of those are even close to reality. Here's a REAL ladder prediction:
1. Essendon-Simply better then anyone else
2. Brisbane-Been on the verge of something big for a while, about time.
3. Melbourne-Young improving list, will be strong
4. Carlton- No Kouta, no Blues
5. Richmond- Richo back, should finally finish better then 9th
6.Hawthorn-Lots of potential, could be top4 next year
7.Nth- Bunch of old men, lucky they have Carey and McKernan
8.Port Adelaide- Pre-season proved they don't rely on Tredrea

9.Sydney- Don't know, just seems the right spot
10.West Coast- Better then most people believe, will surprise all Vics
11.Adelaide- Home ground advantage should see them win a few
12.Geelong- Plain crap, got 2 good youngsters and suddenly think they're a premiership chance
13.St. Kilda- Improved on last year, but still will struggle
14.Bulldogs- Too old to survive
15.Fremantle- Have 4 good players, but which team doesn't
16.Collingwood- can't be crapper than them, Buckley only good player, but there's 18 on field, not 1.

Thats my ladder. I think that 6-12 is wide open. But bottom 4 are years behind everyone else.

I wish the Sportsbet odds were representative of the people who have posted their ladders so far.

I would be getting far better odds on St Kilda making the eight than they are offerring. Maybe even top four?

It will be interesting to compare everyones ladder at this stage of pre-season to around 3 months ago when we all posted our 2001 ladder. I think the thread was called "2001 Ladder" strangely enough.

And G4E, Hamill is fitting into the club very nicely. In fact, in the latest copy of The Saint magazine, he has favourably compared the saints staff to the blues staff. He is looking at finding a house in the Cheltenham area somewhere near the beach and is genuinely excited at the prospect of being one of the key figures in the St Kilda revival.

The most refreshing thing G4E is your improved manners. See, that wasn't so hard!

If you keep a civil tongue, I may bother to read and respond to your posts ... so here goes.

Any team that has a spazza like Rory Hilton in it's best 22 has got a lot of problems

You do remember that Rory Hilton was taken by Brisbane as their first draft pick a couple of years ago despite the fact he was carrying a serious knee injury? Obviously the Brisbane talent scouts saw something other than a "spazza".

You want a genuine comparison that looks at team structure? Honest backmen, good young ruckman, unreliable forward line, hard-working but inconsistent midfield. Am I talking about Richmond or am I talking about Geelong? Richmond and Geelong have not dissimilar structure and will finish within 3 positions of one another on the ladder.

If you want a serious discussion on the potentialities of this year's finishing order, write what you THINK, not what you FEEL. You may WANT Geelong to finish higher than Essendon, but you and I both KNOW they won't.

And be proud of being a Geelong supporter instead of jumping ship because its a bit tough. Geelong needs you a hell of a lot more than Carlton does.
