i agree with the earlier post that our elevated expectations for this season are really fuelling the knee-jerk posts and a lot of those expectations come from whoosh himself.

They would have come anyway. Two years of offering SFA and 3 years of very good draft picks, its about time we started to see some improvement. The Port loss is whats hurt me the most, that was unforgivable.

Turn it up

On a scale of shitiness, where Riccmond are 12/10 and we are 9/10, Hawks are 10/10.

A win is a win, but Hawthorn are a rabble.

I guess you're easily pleased, I'll send you a voucher for a $2 hooker.
:thumbsu:

Do you really think everything is alright now Marlin after a victory over Hawthorn? Problems are still there, especially the fade outs. There were some positives like Kennedy, Naitanui, LeCras but we are a long way from being a threat to the top 8 sides. We need to string two wins together to get some confidence first, we will see what happens from there.

I haven't been calling for the sacking of anyone, but then I don't think it's necessarily coaching that's the problem. I think more particularly it's selection and recruitment / list management (and development!) that's the worry.

Bang on though Monkey - Hawthorn are very poor indeed. And we weren't great shakes in beating them. As for Lynch playing well... one swallow doesn't make a summer...

Dear Knee-Jerkers,

Where are you this week? Where are all the calls to sack our entire coaching, recruiting and playing staff?

We played just as poorly against Hawthorn, as we did against the Dockers, we were merely playing a lesser team.

Are you now happy with the way things are going or are you waiting for our next loss, before you hit the threads again?
No offence bro but it's hardly a knee - jerk reaction, you've been genuinely shithouse for a good 2 and a half years.

If anything, this is a knee - jerk response.

I guess you're not a big fan of reading before posting. Feel free to point out where I said I was pleased about anything.

None taken Bro.

I have no problem with people suggesting we are not playing well and pointing out problems that need fixing. What I find strange is the the posters that thought the majority of the club should be sacked last week, seem to have gone missing.

Was our win over Hawthorn so good that it has changed their opinions? Had you read the OP, you'd have seen my thoughts on the Hawthorn game: We played the same as we did against Freo, just against poorer opposition.

These posters were sure that the world was going to end last week but now everything is fine. It doesn't make sense to me.

What's going to happen next week if we lose to Melbourne? I expect all hell will break loose again. Hopefully, they bump their threads from a fortnight ago, rather than starting new ones.

i get your drift Marlin..can see where youre coming from.. i tried keeping a list of all the players and people that should be sacked,it was futile in the end, but trust me on this - if we had of sacked everyone that was nominated here on BF, we'd only have nick natanui standing on the oval with the club mascot, the tea lady, and some old geezer cutting up orange slices...

it got quite silly at one stage not long ago...

ive given this a lot of thought, and it finally dawned on me that most of the panicbutton-patsys,are probably quite young..whereas the 'relax and give it time' crew are probably much older..and therein lies the problem..

for the younger ones, time drags really slowly..remember how long it took for xmas to came around..well,a footy season is a long time..a preseason is a long time..its a long time to wait, for 2-3 years to be a competitive team again..so they want things done now..out with the old, bring in the new, sack people, shake it up,lets see something happen, where are the stars,we want magic, and we want it now!! etc...

for the older crew amongst us..time flies by, the seasons over before we know it, weve hardly had time to get bored in the offseason before preseason is upon us again, with new draft picks and rookie elevations, trades, retirements etc,a couple of years have flashed by, the teams young uns' got 70+games under its belt, and its all coming together, winning more and more games,we're back in finals, and can hardly remember the bad times, its all on the up+up..

its all about time..and how it passes..the young and the old - we're like two different stars orbiting each other in the same footy cosmos, but revolving at different speeds...

And Fremantle has been shit for even longer. Yet suddenly out of the blue its all come good (for now). Harvey gets a free pass because Freo have been so shit no one had any expectations.

Footy changes so quickly. What if Fremantle drop off later this year or don't back up next year (which has happened before)? Does Harvey get the sack? Does he go back to the maligned coach he was before? Are the recent weeks all forgotten?

What if WC have a Freo like random surge? Unlikely you say? Unlikely is what Freo is right now. No one, not even Freo supporters, would of predicted this form last year.

It's hard to criticise after a win, especially our second for the season. That said, not much has changed, we are still (nearly) as shit as we were two years ago. However things can and do change quickly.

The worrying thing for me is that looking at the last two weeks, just about all the players put in pretty solid performances and yet the results haven't been as good as expected.

So either our gameplan is not working, or our players aren't good enough. Probably both. But I'll keep the faith in Woosh for the moment.

This. Ours is a slow and steady improvement moving along with an ever evolving game.

I wasnt happy with our performance against Hawthorn.....
If we had played any other team besides Richmond and Adelaide we would have been smashed.

That IMO is still not good enough.
Regardless of what happens from here on in we still need to make changes at years end, Because this team isn't good enough to beat WET Toast the way weve been playing.

Not sure whether you were referring to me or just general ranting? But I was one of the "ranters".

5 pages of replies could not have made it more obvious that the issue still burns with a lot of people on BF.

As everyone else have said, Hawthorn is 14th on the ladder, undermanned and playing in perth. We were favourites to win this game even by those who don't rate us much. Just scrapped in a win, though skills overall were much better and improving.

Knee Jerkers ? - some were asking worsfold to be sacked following the GF loss in 2005. If our recruits (I think we have a good young list) achieve their potential then we will be competitive in the next 3 years but I still believe (as a lot on people on BF) that the coaching staff is not the best we can do. To slow to react, not enough tactical decisions, questionable game plan but continue to stick to them.

Will support the team no matter what but I think we could be better off with someone like Laidley or Roos as coach. Both these coaches achieve far more success for their team (NM and sydney) than the squad they had to play with. Sydney right now should be 14-16 given the loss of their two tall forwards and aging team but alas a good coach will do that to a team. Both coaches will be available next year
