i know its early, and i try not to post untill the end of a game however today i'll make an exception.

1. midfield, i dont know whether it is the coaching, the players or both, but we simply do not have the system in place to compete against half decent opposition. i cant remember the last game we won the clearances. hawthorn lost their best midfielder and we still cant get a clearance it is verging on embarrasing. do we need a new midfield coach? or is the problem simply that we just dont have the cattle? sandilands makes a big difference, but so far today i equate our midfield performance to that as though the three stooges were our starting mids.

2. chris mayne, tries hard, tackles, but seriously what does he give us? he cant kick, he doesnt take a great amount of marks, so what is he there for? he certainly isnt there for his goal output, the answer is that we simply dont have anyone better.

3. forwardline structure. whoever our forwardline coach is, they should be sent on the first plane to siberia. we have nobody presenting, little cohesion amoungst the players, and when we do get a shot at goal 6 times out of 10 we miss.

our defenders have in general been fantastic. silvagni has given franklin a bath, and in general we have been composed, but when our midfielders dont work hard enough, turn it over, and then finally get it to forwards who are inept at making the most of their few opportunities, we get results like todays first half against the hawks.

the difference between us and anyone else in the 8 is now like comparing the financial resources of dubai and zimbabwe. i love this club, but other than sandilands, mcpharlin, mundy and suban, we arent missing anyone of importance. maybe as always we got overexcited with our list after last year. this has been one of the most demoralising first halves i can remember. thank christ i dont support melbourne

Barlow not at full speed yet. Palmer being over coached. Mundy out. Hill ..... Mora injured. Pavlich on the downward end. Sandilands out.

Sucks but it's what happens when you don't draft correctly. Midfield should have been addressed in 08 and 09, instead we didn't tank hard enough and didn't trade our duds hard enough, like Ibbo, Johnson, etc. Now they have nearly zero currency and we are in rebuild mode again. Ah well, Fyfe, Barlow, Hill are still pretty young. Maybe the next coach will do better.

The only thing that saved Harvey last year is Barlow. Without him we would have had a repeat of 09 , hence he would have been booted towards end of 2010 if not for Barlow (12 brownlow votes before being injured halfway into season).

I don't think I have ever stopped watching a game half way thru the third quarter before. ****ed if i am going to waste my whole evening though.
What can you say.

1. First quarter Afl footballers missing set shots on slight angles at most. Think there were 4 shots of which only one one went anywhere near. This is the rule for us not the exception. deBoers effort is good but when he was lining up I couldn't even convince myself that he had a chance of kicking it.

2.Where was the pressure of last week in the first quarter. Why did Hawthorn have loose players in both attack and defence. Why can other teams kick straight most of the time - oh i keep forgetting its normal.

3.I can't see us winning any of our remaining games.

We don't deserve to make the finals. The club has a long long way to go, there is too much to even bother going into a detailed rant re: coaching, selections, staff, playing list. Basically, we are long off being a serious premiership contender and this year has acheived little

The most disappointing aspects for me were:
Our forward line (already been covered above)
Mayne (ditto)
Our gameplan - we don't seem to have one anymore. Other teams kills us now with run and spread from the back half. We just go down the line to the same side of the ground over and over again. Our kickouts are predictable.
Our team has forgotten how to play Subi. We don't run and carry, we hold the ball too long, we don't back ourselves in. Hill must take on the game more and back himself to kick goals on the run rather thank dinking a little kick over the head of a forward.
There were a number of players who were simply embarrasing tonight in the way they executed basic skills. Mayne was simply awful, Mzungu turned it over every time he got it (yes I know I've defended him before), Lower, Johnson.
Bradley must come back. Johnson must go and I'd bring in Mellington for Mayne.

you really have to wonder why the #### he has being assigned the kick in duties...he makes some very ordinary decisions.......Duffield or Hill would be much better options

What about Morabito and Hayden??? I know they are forgotten, but nonetheless they are still important to our team and best 18 when fit. To just flippantly exclude them because they haven't been around this year is just plain wrong. If they were playing this season, then we wouldn't be in the strife we are in. I would include Griffin in that list but that would be more of a Sandilands based inclusion so i'll let it slide......this time

Duffield used to do a good job of the kick in, Ibbo is truly awful.
