Greetings all.

Some players wore long-sleeves often; Michael Tuck, Stephen Silvagni, James Hird, etc.
Others did a couple of times a year; Jimmy Bartel, Kade Simpson, Warwick Capper, etc.
And some players did so only a very few times in their entire career.

So rarely did these players don the longy that many fans may be unaware it ever happened.
Here are (some of) those players, starting with the great goal-kicking sensation…

Tony Lockett – Round 19 1991, Victoria Park

Feel free to contribute if you have images of a rare longy sighting.

Andrew Tranquilli in the 1994 QF at the WACA. Couldn't find a pic so here's a screenshot

Screenshots are fine.
Often there is only low-quality footage on YouTube of rare longies. Such as:

Gary Ayers – Round 13 1989, VFL Park (with longy regular Brad Hardie)

(P.S. Who is Andrew Tranquilli?)

Looks like they just used the exact same sleeves from the classic north jumper on this one. Doesn’t look too bad though

The manufacturer’s template makes it look weird over the shoulders.

Here’s a sub-par MS Paint edit:

Full blue sleeves weren’t bad either.

I started this thread as that had sort of turned into “Every long-sleeve ever” and was based on conjecture.

This thread will focus on the rare occasions that well-known players wore longies, like Plugger (who did so >5 times in his career).

P.S. The best longy ever is:

Big men need big longies; especially in cold, cold Adelaide.

While most players sweat it up in the preseason, these longy regulars tough it out in sleeves.
