Have heard of them being compared to "The Kinks". While they are ok, they are not in the same stratosphere.

Love the track "Tender", and also appreciate Albarn for his honesty when intreviewed as being a great vocalist his reply was "I'm not in the same league as Otis Redding, Sam Cooke etc."

No Blur probably don't sit along side The Kinks as an artist and a body of work.

But Albarn does have the same abilities in his writing as Ray Davies to capture what is England in well written and not over the top songs.

It's hard for Damon to write a Village Green Preservation Society because he's too young to have known it and to lament its passing.

But one listen of Charmless Man and you can see it's very much a song you could slip into The Kinks catalogue and play to an ususpecting listener who'd never be able to pick who of the two wrote it.

Over the past week I have sat down and listened to the Blur Discography in order.

Quite enjoyed it :) but im now ____ing ages behind at Uni. Was a great ____ing week though. Realised that I quite indeed like Bettlebum, which I couldn't stand a year ago.

Can I bump this for some Blur talk without it being taken over with 'Blur V Oasis'?

Sure.

In this thread Oasis and the Gallaghers are _____ and one trick ponies.

Listening to all Blur's Albums in a row is a good thing as it lets you see how their music evolved and changed sounds and styles.

Unlike other band who are one trick ponies ;)

Still bitter after all these years hey :D :D :D

Blur are shit.

Nuff said.

Bitter?

Albarn has proven ten fold he pisses all over Gallagher for talent.

That's not even an opinion, it's a fact.

Each to their own champ.

From all that i have read, seen and heard from Damon Albarn makes me conclude that he is a bitter, dispirited man who simply bought off more then he could chew.

He realised he was out of his league with Oasis, his a talented song-writer i will give you that, but as a band oasis will always be remembered over Blur or there poor cousins the Gorillaz or the good the bad and the queen.

Ah yeah he's out of his league

His music developed into different sounds and styles and Gallagher kept producing the same pap that people didn't buy.

And Oasis aren't associated with fne music, they are associated as "that band with that ____wit Liam guy in it".

Oasis will always live on in the hearts of the chavs, but Blur alot like the Kinks will be remembered by other artists as being more talented and influential in the long run.

Albarn had huge success with 3 band projects, Gallagher had success with let's count them 1, and umm 1 and yeah just the one.

3 beats 1 :thumbsu:

Mate, im not going to sit here and bang heads with you, blur were a good band, but they will always be remembered as the band that took oasis on and lost, (that is fact), they will live on in the hearts of indie music snobs who listen to triple J and think Gyroscope are a decent band.

Huge success is a bit rich, Coxon was always the brains behind blur anyway, he is one of the guitarists of his generation. Albarn is just a bitter man.

How old are you?

I'm starting to think all you know of the Blur/Oasis "war" is what you have read in some post 2000 magazine.

Because I was into both bands in a big way back then and it sure didn't pan out how you are spinning the story.

In fact it was nothing like that.

Im going on facts champ, the facts were that Oasis had a release date for the single Roll With It, Blur had a release date for the single Country House, Blur, in all their wisdom, decided to move their release date back so it would coincide with Oasis' Roll With It. That is a fact. That move my albarn all but started the whole "fued", however, the media ran the whole thing like the meida always does, because the media love conflict.

Then Blur decided to scheldule gigs in the same town as Oasis and on the same date, one day both of these gigs happened to be across the road from each other. So it was obvious what was going to happen, Oasis fans were going to go over and start fighting the Blur fans like 2 football hooligan fanbases, Noel knew this and his management rang up blur and said that Oasis were going to pull this gig so someone didnt get their head smashed in with a bottle. Blur agreed and said they'd release a joint statement with oasis outling the decision. But Blur never held up their end of the bargain and started prancing around saying that Oasis pulled out because Blur were better (or words to that effect), those 2 incidents were really the catalyst behind the whole fued. Especially Blur moving their single date release back to Oasis'.

In fact in the early days Oasis actually liked Blur, one day Oasis walked into a bar (in the early days of Defintely maybe, maybe even before) and saw Graham Coxon over at the bar, Liam went up to him and started saying "Great songs - shit clothes" over and over.

You are sounding like the media here.

The whole Blur vs Oasis rubbish was an overrated tiff between some gobby yobs, nothing more really.

Tit for tat insults.

And the media always grabbed anything they said and sensationalised it all.

In the end the music does the talking, and one of the two bands has a far better and diverse catologue of music than the other.

The other has some decent songs, but not much diversity.

Oh and in regards to Damon's wisdom regarding "Country House" and "Roll With It" it proved well founded as Country House out sold Roll With It.

Well Coxon is a pretty intelligent guy.

So to have a dopey manc come over and start gobbing on, well it's no wonder they never got along :D

i always felt the gallaghers had a bigger feud with robbie williams over the years, after he was labelled "that fat dancer from take that", and they were gonna box and all that shit years ago...

They are media whores.

When one person starts ignoring them they find a new target.
