Massively under-rated band this - awesome in both the number of great songs they made, and also the massive variety they had;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hollies_discography#UK_Hit_Singles

Discography there, including;

- Here I Go Again
- Just one look
- Long cool woman in a black dress
- He aint heavy
- Bus Stop
- Sorry Suzanne
- On a carousel
- Carrie Ann
- Look through any window
- Too young to be married
- Stop Stop Stop
- Pay you back with interest

Just a fantastic band, who were more than a one trick, or one genre pony.

Long Cool Woman In Black Dress - is one of my top 5 songs of all-time.

Bus Stop
Stop, Stop, Stop
Jennifer Eccles
What's Wrong with the way I live
Man Without A Heart
Too Young To Be Married
The Day That Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee

Too many classics to mention.

Not really an album band I suppose which is why they aren't rated that highly.

Big fan of their 60's singles that have been mentioned so far particularly Bus Stop,Jennifer Eccles,Carrie-Ann and On A Carousel.

One not mentioned so far is King Midas In Reverse.

The third album "The Hollies" (65) is one of their better ones. I've Been Wrong track a killer and a fantastic version of Mickey's Monkey.

Really are a jack of all trades type of band. Not that it matters to most but they are being inducted into the HOF along with the Stooges this year.

Reminds me of king browns in a brown paper bag in an EH, am radio, arm out the window driving down Murray St trying to pick up chicks.

Oh yeah. Top group.

My mum had a big influence on the music in my life growing up- basically the only time I listened to the radio was in the car, where she insisted on listening to 50's/60's music...and still does, except I have ended up enjoying it more than any of the current stuff 18 year old girls tend to listen to. I can't even understand the lyrics of some of the songs that are out now.

I really like the Hollies, Bus Stop is definitely my favourite, but Sorry Suzanne, Too Young to be Married and Just One Look are all great.

Not really an album band I suppose which is why they aren't rated that highly.
They became more of an album band in the 70s, when they were releasing an album a year until about 78 - Romany, Distant Light, Another Night, Write On, Russian Roulette, 5317704 and A Crazy Steal were all released in this period.

After a recording break of over 20 years, they released two new albums of studio material in the last three years - Staying Power (2006) and Then, Now, Always (2009).

Not sure of the line-up but the band is playing the UK this month. Longevity indeed.
The band still has two of its long-term members in it - Tony Hicks (lead guitar) and Bobby Elliott (drums), who have both been there since the early 60s.

The lead singer through their heyday was Allan Clarke, but he hasn't been in the band for about 10 years (I think his voice was pretty much shot).

Nothing against ABBA but to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame along with Jimmy Cliff, The Stooges & The Hollies seems a bit odd.

It's great to see The Hollies inducted, they have been one of my favourite groups for many years. :thumbsu:

I guess for a band which is in its 48th year of existence it isn't surprising to see not many of the long-term members still present.

Despite that, there is still a fair bit of longevity amongst the current line-up:
Tony Hicks - 47 years
Bobby Elliott - 47 years
Ray Stiles - 24 years
Ian Parker - 19 years
Peter Howarth - 6 years
Steve Lauri - 6 years
(Info from Wiki)

Graham Nash, who made his name in The Hollies before leaving to join/form CS & N, was himself only in the group for six years.
