In Queensland for expample, to open a bottle shop you need to also own a pub within a certain distance for licencing reasons.

Is this the same in other states?

No only QLD

My mates and I have often wondered why noone has started up a home delivery bottle-o. Of course, they might exist elsewhere, but not where we live.
Barman Express used to be around in Qld - don't know if they still exist.

GP margins are obviously the problem, and if you're simply going to offer the same service and same product as the big chains then they will eat you alive. You can get people to pay more for a quality service, and a quality product, but more for the same product? To do that you need a gimmick. Best gimmick is sex, so i'd suggest a bottlo with hooters-style chicks serving you grog would be the go. All with enormous norgs, preferrably implants so they're firm and pert, and a nice arse/legs. Strippers would work this job well but they're usually dishonest dodgy dogs of people, so they're no good. And you'd have to pay the girls well to get their cleavage out on the job. So would you pay $40 a slab if you knew when you pulled up there'd be a hot babe with great cleavage hanging it all out for you to gawk at when you placed your order? Your answer might determine whether this would work or not.

Genius! and yes, the only way to make $$$ in the market.

Trying to compete with Liquorland/Safeway/Dan Murphys/1st Choice will result in death by lack of GP. Some bottlos in small groups of shops in places like Cranbourne/Narre Warren where the population is booming, and people can tbe bothered going into the shopping centres can result in a win.

There's always a heck of a lot of parties Friday and Saturday nights, but the bottle-o's tend to close around 10pm. With a delivery service you'd make it easier for people who don't want to drive/can't drive to buy your product, and you might even be able to sneak a little extra profit on delivery charges. You could also stay open later, I guess.

Mind you, I'm sure there's probably some sort of licensing law that prevents it.
This business operates in the Geelong area.

24 hour Bottleshops (notice the capital-letter there.)

One in Carlton... Cool Indian dudes who don't charge too much considering the hours involved... Lygon Street mate, (let Lygons be Lygons,) opposite the all-nite-time aussiewog cafe.

Also, up the cool end of Chapel Street... where it's Windsor, a pub on the right just before Dandy road...(i.e. that's Dandenong rd, not Commercial road,) ;)

Very tough business to suceed in, my dad owns a bottleshop as part of the local pub he owns, he has been involved with bottleshops and pubs etc for the past 20-30 odd years and yeh it is extremely difficult to make a substantial earning especially with the influx of 'supermarket liquor chains' and with Aldi now selling their own insanely cheaper beer and petrol stations being under consideration to sell alcohol, so yeh overall not a 'certainity' then again if you werent worried about profits etc. it is one of the best jobs in the country ( i work in the bottleshop at my dads pub)

Dan Murphys also do home delivery.

They wouldn't deliver for a mate of mine when he wanted a pallet (60 cartons) of Crown Lager a few months ago for his birthday party. So he tried Liquorland and as a bonus they gave him 10% off the total price for everything. He also found that not one of these discount stores was willing to give him any sort of discount on spirits with the exception being liquorland. So what he did was got a mate's light truck & they picked up 60 cartons of beer & 30+ cartons of spirits & he made sure that they drove past the Dan Murphys store on the way home & he tooted the horn & waved to the staff as they drove passed. They sure did lose a considerable amount of money that day.

You could also charge a massive premium on the service too.. I mean if Pizza Hut can charge 20-odd bucks for the worst pizza in teh history of Pizzadom, then Im sure a 6-pack of VBs could be increased to 20 bucks too.. Make it 30 after 11PM.

There's a Pizza Joint in Sydney Road, Brunswick that home delivers food, smokes & booze. Have done so for years.

Pretty standard prices on the food and slight extra mark up on the extras.
