They rate Bailey higher and rightly so. Doesn't mean Cullen's a total hack. He wont play consistent cricket for Australia, but he'll fill in occasionally.
... more like he'll fill in for the state side...occassionally.

last 2 seasons have been less than pathetic for a front line bowler

It's amazing that you are better at recognising talent than the Australian selectors, Shane Warne and Terry Jenner, among others.

You rate yourself pretty highly.

Jeff Thompson and Dennis Lillee thought Brett Lee would be one of our great fast bowler. We all make mistakes.

Cullen is a good bowler... he has been out of sorts, struck down with injury. Most spinners find it hard at First Class level in Australia because the pitched don't really suit them as much as quicks. For a spinner an average of 30 would be deemed pretty good. Cullen averages at 40 at the moment.. probably due to the big amount of overs he bowls. He just needs to get his confidence back and keep on grinding away. I think he'll be a good domestic bowler but will never really get a good go for Australia.

What about... "Has potential but is yet to reach the heights set upon him", or something along these lines. A very good opportunity to cement his spot for Australia (now Shane Warne has retired), but he won't get anywhere on the basis of his current form, he needs to perform or he could be moved aside for his SA teammate Cullen Bailey.

Cullen's been ordinary when I've seen him bowl. Looks like a spoilt punk too. Problem is that off-spinners haven't had a history of success in this country and Murali aside are containers rather than matchwinners. Mallett was the best I saw but he was nowhere near the best leg-spinners we've produced. Was a gun gully catch though but a complete rabbit with the bat.

Said in another thread, is the cricket's version of Lleyton Hewitt.

Hot headed little sook.

Soon as he starts maturing, the better he'll be for it.
