I was talking to a couple of mates (non Richmond supporters) last night and they agreed that we have a pretty good list. So I have taken the liberty to create this thread.

The rating system is out of 10, and splits in the main position, with promosing players, concerned players, etc of each position. The players in the "best section" would fit into most other AFL teams

This is my go:

Back: 6/10
Our best: JBowden, Polak, Newman, Raines
Promosing players: Thurstfield, Polak, McGuane, King, Casserly
Concerning players: Hall, Casserly (can't stay fit), PBowden (needs to get back into the 1's), Hartigan

Midfield: 4/10
Our best: Foley, Coughlan, Deledio
Promosing players: Conners, Edwards, Howatt, Polo
Concerning players: Johnson, Tuck, Tivendale, Jackson, JON

Foward: 7/10
Our best: Richo, Brown
Promosing players: Tambling, Peterson, Riewoldt, Huges
Concerning players: Pettifer, Brown, Schultz, Kingsley, Meyer

Rucks: 4/10
Our best: Simmonds
Promosing players: Patto
Concerning players: Knobel, Hall, Graham

Age Groups:18-21: 8/10
21-25: 7/10
25-29: 4/10
29+: 6/10

Whats everyone think of this, a fair assesment, or unrealistic?

Was going to do something similar to this at the split round but seeing as it has been brought up now I thought I would give an assessment of every player that has played then a look at those that are yet to get a game this year.
1. Newman - B+, good comeback from a broken leg and been a leader down back. Will get better as the year goes on and a contender to take over as Captain of the club.
3. Deledio - B+, showing that he is becoming the player we expected him to be. Last 3 weeks of footy after the Cats game has seen his play some of his best footy.
4. Raines - B-, started the year slowly and is starting to get back to playing the footy that saw him finish as runner up in the Rising Star. Must not be forgotten is still very raw and will be better for the year.
5. Simmonds - C+, mainly due to injury has not had the same impact he had on the team last year. Will need a big second half of the year to set himself for a big 2008.
6. Polak - B+, has shown why we were desperate to get him. Has filled the role down back and we just seem so much more settled with him down there marking nearly every thing. Will improve as he becomes more comfortable playing with his new teammates.
8. Riewoldt - D, played one game and although limited in possies his enthusiam seemed to rub off on those playing around him. Did not seemed overrawed by the occassion but at times looked lost if that makes sense.
10. Edwards - C, like the look of this kid as it looks like he has that X factor in that he is not afriad to try things and take the game on. Also not fazed to put his body on the line when he needs to. Expect a long career at Punt Rd.
11. J.Bowden - B, not up to his standard of 05-06 seasons but effective none the less. Still asked to fight out of his division against bigger opponents at times due to his reliability.
12. Richo - A-, one of our few top liners, has done whatever has been asked of him without complaining. Showed leadership and anyone that has questioned his heart can see from last night that the big guy bleeds for this club. A shame that he will probably end up missing on Ultimate success.
14. Polo - C, was coming along nicely without setting the world on fire. Developing as a somewhat reliable run with player and hopefully will grow into the role next year.
15. Pettifer - C-, something is not quite right with Petts I feel. Seems like he is trying but things are just not happening for him as easily. Needs to step it up a notch because he is now a focus of the opposition.
16. P.Bowden - D, another who has been missed because of injury. Will need to have good second half or bet passed by, by a few younger players. Has shown he can be very important to the side when up and running.
17. Johnson - C+, shown that he gives for the club by playing hurt but how much has his injury impacted on his ability to play at his best. Had one very good game against Port but apart from that has drawn the ire of fans.
18. Kingsley - D, proved somewhat that it was a smart decision for the club to get him as we look more threatening with him up forward with Richo. When Brown comes back it gives us a 3 pronged attack that could cause some sides headaches.
21. Tuck - B-, again goes somewhat unnoticed but stll gets the job done each week. Although he has been criticised by some he hardness around the packs has made it easier for guys like Foley, Polo, Deledio when they have been onball.
22. Meyer - D-, has been given opportunity tocement a spot but has not been able to grab it. Rumours persist that he wants to go home and if that is the case then we should stop wasting time on him and play someone else that does want to be here.
23. Jackson - C, another who has been a target of fans but each time has got a job has done pretty well. Has been injury plauged but hopefully if given consistent games will step up and take a spot.
25 Schulz - C-, another who has been given a chance to cement a spot in the side and failed to grab it, started off promising enough but has not been able to impact games like we would have hoped. Needs to find form quickly in the reserves otherwise is another who could get passed by.
26. Pattison - B-, had to carry the ruck without Simmonds and has performed well considering. Last 2 weeks has showed he could be a valuable back up for Simmonds and a future first choice ruckman.
27. Krakouer - C-, was dropped and got a second chance due to a late withdrawal more than anything else. Could be one that gets off loaded at the end of the year or another who gets by through need rather than want i.e. we need a player of his type rather than us wanting him.
29. JON - C, still looks undersized for AFL footy but the WCE game showed he could be good for us across HB with composure but needs to work on kicking and hitting targets. Prepared to give more time as he is only in his second year and has spent a bit of that time battling injury.
30. Tambling - B-, developing at the rate that was expected but has shown glimpses that he could be a special talent. Not on to shirk doing the hard yards and has shown courage by playing despite carrying a shoulder injury the last 2 games.
31. Hyde - C-, at the cross roads seems like a few younger players have passed him by in the pecking order and for a guy like Hyde could spell the end at Richmond. Second half will tell whether he is going to be there or not.
32. Tivendale - C, one of the few experienced players we have but make errors like a first/second year kid. Frustrating as hell and could look great running through the middle and then deliver a pass straight to the opposition. Another at the crossroads.
34. Hughes - C+, showed in his few games that he can be a CHF that we can go to. Good overhead and a thumping kick just needs to develop size and endurance and we have got a long term prosect on our hands.
35. White - C, when he has been brought into the side has played reasonably well but is in a group of players that play similar roles (King, Polo, Raines, Newman) would keep on the list as he is a kid that gives his all when playing for Richmond and you need players like that in every club.
36. Thursfield - C+, played 2 games this year after a reco and has shown why we put faith in him. Little rusty first game back against the Crows but had Lloyds measure last night after a shaky start. Yet to play 10 games so only going to get better.
38. McGuane - C+, started of the year well covering for Thursfield and did reasonable jobs on good players. Along with Thursfiled and Polak gives us some godd KP depth down back for the next 5-10 years.
40. Moore - C-, another given the chance and looks like he has not grabbed it and again been passed by. Could be worth keeping on as a depth player and seeing if he can find a little more in the tank.
41.- Foley - A- our other top liner this year and a real breakout player. Word was he was good but has pretty much exceeded that by carrying the load in the middle. When he gets some help around him and quality service from an experienced ruckman (Simmonds) will be that much better.
43. Howat - C+, started off slowly but battle back to regain his spot in the seniors. Runs all day and looks to be improving his decision making going forward. Hope to see him grab a senior spot as this is his final rookie year.
46. King - B-, has a go and puts his body on the line when needed. A kid that has grabbed his chance and is making the most of it. Definitely a rookie worth upgrading when his eligibity is up.

Foley deserves an A/A+. Harsh on Schulz aswell, I think.

All in all, a pretty good assessment.
You will find I only gave A-'s to Richo and Foley who I think have been our 2 best players. Those that I gave B+/B to still have room to improve other than that everyone else has been below where they need to be if we are going to be a club that threatens the big boys. I took into account that Simmonds has been injured while guys like Brown and Coughlan were obvious ommissions. Shows there is plenty left in the tank when it comes to improvement and yet we have been there abouts against sides like WCE, Crows, Swans, Pies and Dogs who were all top 8 sides last year. Also to against a side full of old players like the Dons to have most of our kids carry the side tells me we will be better than them in the long run.

Oh, I understand where you are coming from. Foley has been far and away our best though. Really, on Saturday Night, was his first average game. Hes been a stand out most weeks. Thats what I think anyway.

Whats everyone think of this, a fair assesment, or unrealistic?

sorry dude. but with all due respect...the "FACT" that you rate the Forward lime more than the back line, suggests you really have NFI about footy huh?;)

Looking at it average wise I would rate us at C+ at this stage of the season. Although we are 0-9 there is a lot to like in terms of where the side is heading and I can't bring myself to give it away. 12 months time I predict that we will be sitting in a similar spot to the Hawks.

This week was the first game I have seen this year and just wanted to comment on a few players that took my attention.

Johnson: I have always trhought he was a good player, often taking on the best opposition midfielder and beating them, but after seeing him this week I think I might have changed my mind. His skills and decision making are terrible. If he is not playing in a purely negative role his days must be numbered.

Pattison: While he didn't have the best of games, I was really impressed with his work ethic. Willing to do the unglamorous things. I can see why he has had his knockers but considering the situation Richmond is in, it will be blokes with the attitude of Pattison that lead us out of it.

Edwards: I can only imagine how good this bloke will be. Like Pattison has a great work ethic so I can see him putting on 10kgs over the next few years. If that happens and he is able to break that first takle he will play for the tigers for a very long time.

Reiwoldt: Hard to jugde him on one game but he did appear a bit slow, in the same way that Nathan Abblett did last year. If he can improve his speed his attitude will make him a very good player. Good footy clubs need their best players to be as outgoing as blokes like Jack.

Richardson: To all those people that have bagged Richo over the years I think against Essendon he proved why he will be remembered as one of the club greats. To be able to play like that after an injury like that can only inspire the whole playing list. If nothing else if he can hand on his passion for the footy club to a few of the kids he will leave a great legacy.

Overall though I think we are on the right track. Another key defender, a ruckman and a couple of midfielders will see us looking pretty good in a couple of years.
