Review Rate Our Season

I set 8 wins as our pass mark for the year, so if 5 is a bare pass I'll give our season a 6/10.

Plenty of improvement needed, but there were three games I attended which gave me as much pleasure as any regular season wins over the years - West Coast, Adelaide and the Demons (at the G) in that order- so unlike last year there's some great memories and much to look forward to.

Will Voss be in trouble if we don't get the 10 wins we got this year? It's very possible we may not next year (depending on draw, injuries etc) but could be playing better footy.

I wonder what they'll measure him on next year seeing as though we probably overachieved in terms of wins this year.

If we play better I definitely think we'll win more games. I think the concern might be if we only play to the same standard, that some of the teams below us might not be quite as easy to register wins against next year.

I'd say 6 1/2, maybe 7. IIRC i predicted we'd finish 12th-14th and that would be a good result. I think if we are to rate progress next year then winning more than 10 games has to be achieved...winning enough to get into the finals would be a bonus but i still think we're looking at 2014 for that. There has been improvement but we are still far from being the finished article. Perspective!

Straight pass for me. 2 good wins to show some progression but I think we were less consistent then 2011. Most our wins were against teenage clubs or those in crisis. Needed to win games against the tigers and bombers to get a higher mark from me.

But we did what we had to do...develop youngsters, win a couple underdog games, and generally move on from the "crazy voss" days and bad press.

Looking forward to 2013

5.5/10 ! i reckon was heading for 4 before the last month. dont get too carried away boys and girls only 2 above average wins no way we should drop games to those below us. next season gotta beat the tigers , bombers, blues etc to get too the next level , that said i believe we can do that after that 2014 look out !!!

"work in progress" get on board

I'd give our season a 6.5 mark. Very happy with the 10 wins. Very disturbed by the "one quarter fade outs" which resulted in a few blowouts. Some games we were just plainly uncompetitive. We need to fix that next year.

Agree about Bombres and Blues but don't reckon Tigers are at the next level, despite their better win/loss record this year. And reckon we are entitled to get carried away. If you can't do it post/pre-season , when can you?

i think hutchy would give us a B if we won the flag how he rated port above us is intresting

I'd say that its more stupid, than interesting.

Unless Hutchinson had us at the start of the year as achieving more than we did (which I highly doubt and I suspect he would have had us in the bottom four, like most others), there's no way that Port Adelaide should be rated higher than us for the year.

I think prior to the season starting I had the expectations of a good season for us to be a chance of finals in the last few weeks. The game against the Saints was round 16 so only a few weeks short of what I thought we were capable of doing. The loss against Essendon and the Pies were embarassing, those two games make us look we deserve to be a bottom 4 side and IIRC we weren't having a bad injury run either. I give the season a 6/10, 10 would have been making the 8. Credit to the players and coaches to finish with 3 wins when they could have easily gone into holiday mode and it's also great to see the turn around of the reserves, their season gets a 10/10.

We're lucky we have a coach that had the balls to trade/draft some 'rejects' in 09. We would have been exposed for depth if it wasn't for the recuitment of guys like Maguire and Raines, BS that sydney is the only club that has such good ssuccess with trades. Amazing how the 2008 draft, 2009 trade period, a few players that no one wanted (Zorko, Bewick & Hudson) and some success with rookie picks and the clubs clearly on the way up without a lot of high draft picks.
Voss+Kerr+Hadley = winning combination.

I rate our season very highly. For me the highlights were:

1. 10 wins. Even if we did mainly beat teams lower than us this was not as easy as some would have you believe (think Carlton and Port).

2. Games against Eagles, Adelaide, St Kilda, Bulldogs.

3. The performances of young players Golby, Harwood, Yeo, Beams, Green, Lester, Zorko (wow so many!).

4. Merrett. A surprise package up forward and dynamic down back. His time up forward has given him more confidence well done Vossy. Would be the Lion most wanted by other clubs in my opinion.

5. Voss was not under constant criticism or threat of being sacked.

6. Performance of the reserves.

All this without Leuenberger and with Longer and Docherty in the wings. Add Tippett or pick 8, McGrath (only up forward please) and Staker and the future looks bright.

Looking forward to next year!

Cant say we improved that much. Our win loss ratio last year didn't reflect our competitiveness. We played much of last year without brown, and lost close games. This year bulldogs and Melbourne bottomed out --> four easy wins. plus holding our nerve against gold coast and gimme from gws. Factor in the many pathetic floggings and I'd say overall ten wins flatters us.

I enjoyed the season because we were able to celebrate wins often and we blooded a raft of new young players. I'm rapt that we were playing out best footy towards the end of the year. Bring on 2013. Overall mark B.

No mention of wins against Adelaide or Eagles...?

Adelaide may be playing a little better this season...
I know, but it was still an impressive win. Anyway, I guess I'm just trying to say there were times this year when I felt like we were uncompetitive. Our last three rounds were fantastic, and it really saved our season, thank Zorko.

To an extent, I agree with your way of thinking. The West Coast and Adelaide wins were amazing, but the other West Coast match, as well as games against Carlton, Essendon and Collingwood, were just as disappointing. I think this must be close to the hundredth time I've said it, but consistency is the key for next season.

In saying that, those matches gave us some pretty awesome highlights for the off-season :D
