Unlike Hendo, Terry Wallet can play in all positions on the field.:)

He can troll on Bay13, talk Carlton on the Carlton board, talk drafting on the draft board and talk footy on the main board.

As a once revered Blues poster might have said...not all trolls is trolls.

Whilst I agree, I'd also say Watts might not belong here either.

For two reasons:

1. he might not even be a KPP, I really see him playing more of a midfield role.

2. James Frawley is way more deserving of being discussed than arguably any of these four players (maybe people consider him too old for the conversation though? Same with Jack Riewoldt I suppose)
Frawley hasnt been dicussed because he is already a fair way ahead of these guys as well as having played a lot more games

2006 draft.
8. Ben Reid
12 James Frawley
13 Jack Reiwoldt

The latter 2 seem to have been around longer because they played for weaker teams, so got more game time and had higher profiles, but they're all (roughly) the same age.
Ben Reid was drafted as a 17 year old I think, so he is a year younger than Frawley, Riewoldt and Brown.

As far as ratings go
2011/2012
1.Reid
2.Hurley
3.Henderson
4.Watts

10+ years
1.Hurley
2.Reid
3.Henderson/Watts

I probably rate Henderson higher than most, but since he's gone down back he has impressed me. He was a bit shakey at first, but showed some really good signs. I probably haven't seen enough of Watts, but to me looks like he'd be more suited to a half forward flank than KPP. I'd only have Hurley higher because of his versatility but I rate Reid the better backmen.

I think Reid was the youngest player taken in the 06' draft from memory. Out of those players, his age bracket was the only one eligible for the 07' draft.

Apart Glen Jackovich, it is extremely rare for such a young player to be selected as the AA CHB.

Actually 4-7 months younger:
B. Reid 29/4/89
N. Brown 17/12/88
J. Reiwoldt 31/10/88
J. Frawley 20/9/88

In AFL/draft terms this certainly makes them comperable. They're all still very young though, and being a little slower in development, or having an injury or two would have a seemingly 'big' effect now, but really wont matter is 3-4 years time.

I think both Reid and Brown 'suffer' because it's harder to get into the Collingwood team, but benefit once they're there because of the quality around them.

Probably the youngest, or at least close to...IIRC, the cutoff was end of April, so if he'd been born 2 days later, he'd have been ineligable.

As an aside, the following year featured Cotchin, born 7/4/90, so bottom age players doing well aren't that unusual.

Apart Glen Jackovich, it is extremely rare for such a young player to be selected as the AA CHB.
Jack Reiwoldt and James Frawley made the AA team in 2010, so both would have been younger.

want to try another comparison. The circumstances around that match up are well known.
Hurley was on one leg all year (and carried a bung finger) but still monstered guys like the Reiwoldts when he played back, so the comparison is fair.

Hurley is yet to get a full pre season under his belt but is still already a better footballer than Reid.

Henderson is being underrated in this thread. He did a good job on some big name players thus year.

Now

Hurley
Reid
Henderson
Watts

Career

Hurley
Watts
Reid
Henderson

Frawley isn't a fair way ahead of Reid. Both are AA defenders. I'd say they're about even.
Not saying one way or another, but Frawley is under a lot more pressure as Melbourne's FB.

And interestingly, as bad as Melbourne have been when we were winning spoons - apparently we had, statistically, the best defence of any wooden spoon side.

I'm pretty high on Frawley, just quietly.

But from an age point of view, my understanding is that Watts is still a decent bit younger than any of Reid, Hurley or Henderson. ITs probably less fair to compare Watts to Reid, than it is to compare Reid to Frawley.

Had Frawley not lost all his pres season and had a late start to the season we would have been talking him up for AA in 2011. His 2nd half of the year was top notch again.

If we take the original post on face value and remove the outlier, Henderson, who is the legitimate fourth option in this question - Josh Kennedy, James Frawley, Sam Reid, Cale Hooker, Tayte Pears, Ben Stratton, others?

Henderson wouldn't make it into a list of the top 15 young KPP.
Kennedy and Frawley are a bit old for this kind of list imo. And of the rest of the KPP it would be Reid who would be the next best.

Had Nathan Brown not lost all his season we would have been talking him up for AA in 2011. His second half of 2010 and his Grand Final performance on Nick Riewoldt was top notch.

See, I can do it too.

No we wouldn't have. He isn't in the same league as Frawley.
Who's to say. I'm not sure anybody can make a definitive call on that considering Brown missed the entire year just when he was starting to hit peak form.

Give them both a couple of years injury free and we'll know in due course. Both are well equipped to hold down the key defensive post against the opposition gorilla forward. Frawley has had more opportunity than Brown, coming from a much weaker team, whilst Brown has had to wait for his opportunities.

Its line ball.....given both are fully fit I wouldnt mind losing the toss. Perhaps Frawley has his nose in front but there isnt much in it. Brown probably has more creative ability and certainly a much more likely forward option.

Ages for reference:

Watts: 26/03/1991
Hurley: 1/6/1990
Henderson: 14/12/1989
Reid: 29/04/1989

Nearly two years difference between Watts and Reid, so I'd say that's more of a significant gap than Reid and Frawley, by far.

Furthermore, Watts was in high school his first season and barely trained.

If we're comparing "young" KPP's, its probably more accurate to throw Frawley (20/9/1988) in the mix instead of Watts imo. Frawley is definitely a KP player at least, and closer in age to the others.

As I've stated in numerous threads, I'm really high on Brown. Absolute gun.

Would love to have them both. I'd still give Frawley the edge, just because he's demonstrated more and is an athletic freak.

Funny thing is, when the Dees took Frawley ahead of Riewoldt, the vast majority of our fans were gutted. Felt even worse about it after his first 6 or so games where he was a complete dud.

Couple years on and we wouldn't even dream of trading him for Jack (who is a deadset gun himself). There is literally no job Frawley can't do in the backline. Can beat smalls or talls equally well.

I think Nathan Brown gets a few browny points for his 10' finals series. Riewoldt absolutely destroyed WB the week before in one quarter, of all the players on the field in the GF, Riewoldt was the man to shut him down. Brown did it twice on the most important stage of them all and it got to a point where he was out marking Riewoldt. He did the same thing to Barry Hall and Tom Hawkins, the 2 weeks previous.

The real question should be who are the best young KPP.

If we take Reid's class as the oldest (drafted in 2006). Who are the best young KPP in the land.

James Frawley
Jack Reidwoldt
Eric Mackenzie

Have all done well, the first two probably the best off the top of my head

Bias at its best.

It was a marvellous effort in holding Riewoldt to his career average in marks (8), disposals (16), and goals (2.3), in the GF.

Particularly with the inside 50 count at 62-35.

You idiot! How stupid can you be?

At the end of 2008 Collingwood supporters proclaimed that Brown was the second coming of Christ.

In 2009 he was ordinary, constantly being beaten comprehensively.

Isn't the Melbourne supporter you are referring to the same one you implied doesn't know what he is on about, or is that a different guy?

Make a poll - brown v Frawley, and see how many neutrals vote for brown.

You need to open your other eye.
No doubt Frawley would win, and rightly so. He's more versatile and is fitter.

I'm just saying that Brown is a lot better than people give him credit for, but a year out of the game will do that. He might not get back to that level either.
