If you can’t see the obvious talent Nathan has, maybe Football isn’t your sport. Stick with lawn bowls.

Where have you seen him play?

How many times against men?

NAME THE TIMES DATES AND PLACES??

In any event where does he rate on the list.

Better than Travis - definitley not on potential.

I think he is behind goldy for football ability.

If you have something constructive to say then say it otherwise shut the ....up you total tool

1. Heath Shaw - A champion in the making, future captain. He's taken his game to another level this year.

2. Dale Thomas - A match winner in the mould of James Hird.

3. Scott Pendlebury - A class act - accumulates plenty of the footy - has upside.

4. Travis Cloke - A future replacement for A. Rocca.

5. Shannon Cox - A very good half-back flanker. Tough, composed and skillful.

6. Brad Dick - An exciting player - could be something very special.

6. Harry O'Brien - A good defender - sticks to the plan and doesn't give up.

8. Alan Toovey - A useful utility, but his foot skills let him down.

9. Daniel Nicholls - A bit small

10. Ben Davies - A reserves player

N/A - for those whom haven't made their debut.

My Top Ten:

1.Heath - already a star.
2.Thomas - excitment machine.
3.Cloke - more important to our structure than many belive.
4.Pendlebury - class.
5.O'Brien - towelled Lucas, nuff said.
6.Egan - Laconic, outside, but can play anywhere, skills.
7.Rusling - can lead from FF and kick goals, still a kid.
8.Cox - 20 possesions on Anzac day, loads of talent.
9.Toovey - seems very clever, very fit, already a good tagger.
10.Dick - shown glimpses, but what glimpses! love the enthusiam.

Honorable Mentions;

Davies - hard at it, skills let him down.
Iles - straight line player, need to step up to make it.
Nicholls - needs to develop some game-breaking qualities at his height.

And just in case you've all forgotten, there are still the likes of Goldsack, Clarke, Anthony, Cook, Stanley, Macaffer, Dawes, Wellingham, Brown and Reid to debut.

future looking bright for the young Pies.

I can only go on exposed form and I agree with your assesment, especially the Cloke comment.:thumbsu:
I have to say though, that Cox is one that has really impressed me so far this year. He takes on a job and does it very well. Similar to seeing Harry O' in his rookie year, he was very impressive and preformed as his coach wanted him too.
What I particularly like is that they are all good at following the plan. :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Yep of the young blokes this year we already knew how good Heater was from last year, and how promising Tommo and Pendles were but Big Cox has been the surprise packet for mine. Shown in 3 games that he belongs out there, i just hope they leave him side by side with Clement and till he hangs them up then he can take over as the new general. His foot skills are top notch as well.

If you were basing Heaters improvement on the Anzac day game then maybe, but he hadn't been in great form before then. And I would compare Thomas more to a (at this point in his career) outside version of Daniel Kerr. Runs the lines fearlessly, the same goes for his attack on the ball and the opponent. Possibly closer to Hird in his marking, but he is giving up 2 inches on Hird in that regard.

Hasn't been in great form before ANZAC day?
Are you kidding? He'd be leading our B&F with ease, dunno what you have been watching

He hasn't been in fantastic form, done his job each week but has only really had 2 outstanding games. Lockyer and Burns would be ahead of him in the best and fairest.

Based on the hype, Wellingham, Clarke and Dawes should be near the top.

But based on what we have seen:

1. Heath Shaw
2. Scott Pendlebury
3. Dale Thomas (very little seperating them)
4. Travis Cloke
5. Shannon Cox
6. Harry O
7. Brad Dick
8. Alan Toovey
9. Sam Iles

Pretty much how I would rate them at the moment.

Did you watch the West Coast game? Shaw was the only defender who wasn't effected by the pressure, would have notched up another 25 quality touches off the half-back line.

Thomas's work ethic and "take them on" attitude is similar to James Hird's, IMO.

For my mind Heater has been very good with the game against the bombers being exceptional. I think this is the year that he establishes himself as a genuine star of the competition if he continues to play the way he has been. Lockyer and Burns would have to be up there for best player, but Heater wouldn't be too far behind. He has played very well for us so far and he has probably drawn more of the oppositions attention with teams now having his direct opponent trying to take him away from the play. He's handling this well and is also dealing with quality opponents with no drop in form. I don't think Lockyer has had to deal with this and lets face it Burnsy is well...Burnsy... he just keeps on keeping on.

What I really like about our young players is that they have a great confidence and attitude about them. The guys that are playing this year don't seem afraid to take them on and have a go. They work hard and will challenge. I think MM is developing a great culture for young players to come into the side and its showing in the guys coming through. I get the feeling that the Youngbloods of the club are taking over!

My top 10 would be
1) H Shaw - developing into a star player.
2) Pendlebury - watching him play is like watching someone come out of their shell. He seems more and more comfortable every week and he looks like he's good for a goal game.
3) Thomas - love his attitude and his hard work. More renowned for the flashy stuff, but he has showed that he can play in the middle and down back comfortably. Good to see there is more to him then the flashy stuff.
4) T Cloke - for all his stuff ups he is becoming a critical cog to our structure so he really needs to be up in the top. Despite the frustration and all the errors he hasn't stopped working hard and I think that in time he well develop into another Rocca for us.
5) Harry - old angry face is going to be one of those defenders that don't necessarily shine, but are key to your defence. Some have likened him to Mal Practice which is quiet a complement. I think he's got a long way to go to get to that level, but he's showing the right signs.
6) Egan - inconsistent in the past and full of potential, but this guy can play. I hope that attitude being shaped at the club finds it way into his head and he comes into the side with the confidence and hard work the others have shown.
7) Cox - I'm tempted to put him ahead of Egan, but he's barely played so I think we shouldn't get too excited here. Showing all the right signs. Can't see him being a star player, but I can see him being a solid contributor who rarely plays a bad game.
8) Toovey - I like his versatility and he looks like he could be anything. I saw the game against the Roos on the GC and thought he looked okay. Was suprised to see him get a game and pleasantly suprised to see him kick three goals. Need to see more...want to see more.
9) Brad Dick - Looks quick and skillful, but reminds me of Leon Davis. He strikes me as the sort of player who may go missing at times. I thought against Port that he looked a little unsure of himself and probably held back at times instead of going in after the footy. But for a first year listed player this is no suprise.
10) Rusling - I think this guy has so much potential he could be a star for us. But I think that he's going to be a guy who is in and out of the side with injuries as he just looks so fragile. I hate to think that this affects his mindset as when I saw him play the Roos on the GC pre-season I thought that there was a guy that took short steps. Harsh maybe, but he definitely didn't go in with full gusto into a number of potential contests for the groundball. No question about his attack on the ball in the air though.

I think that this year is an exciting year as we could do anything. We're such a darkhorse because of the young players coming through. Look forward to watching the season unfold.

You don't ever see James Hird try what Thomas did when baulked a couple defenders running into the forward line before getting tackled. Hird is more likely to stroll around looking like he is running at half pace before disposing. The way Thomas moves running at full pelt and taking them on is more like Kerr.

I personally don't get the James Hird comparison at all. Hird is a key forward, cum on baller, like a Pavlich or Embley. Thomas is more in the Kerr, or even Voss mould.
