Since macca23 is lazy and RaDaR ReIlLy is shy I might as well start the thread myself :)

Here is the deal. For every player on our list you give your rating for their disposal by foot. Rate then fron 1-10 with 1 being an absolute shocker who never hits a target and 10 being an excellent disposal.

Get cracking guys. I will give my rating soon. :)

Okay - number's 1 to 10 on our list.

Using 7 as good acceptable AFL standard

1.Smith 5 - who cares?
2. Carey 8 - along with Edwards easily the best of this group
3. Massie 5 - terrific efforts to get the ball, not always good disposal
4. Clarke 6 - okay but rarely gets it it
5. Burns 7 - just doesn't get enough
6. Watts 6 - useful and improving
7. Smart 6 - going backwards wwith age
8. Bassett 5 - not AFL standard
9. Edwards 8 - the best of this batch along with Carey
10. Bode 3 - not AFL standard

Average 5.9 for these 10 players. Tells a story so far doesn't it?

I've been a bit disappointed at times this year by Carey's goalkicking. I know he got 6 on Friday but he could have easily got 8+.

Bode - field kicking might be ordinary but he's a pretty good shot for goal.

Nothing to disagree with otherwise.

1. Smith - never seen him play
2. Carey - 8. Good on either foot, esp. for a big man
3. Massie - 5. Handballs too much - either under instructions or doesn't back himself in with his kicking.
4. Clarke - 4. No worse than most ruckmen
5. Burns - 3. Completely one sided.
6. Watts - never seen him play.
7. Smart - 5. Always been a bit of a blazer.
8. Bassett - 6 1/2. Better than most think.
9. Edwards - 9. Probably as good as we've got at the club
10. Bode - 4. Does he ever straighten up?

The 'Ayres is the only man in Adelaide that doesn't rate him conspiracy theorists' and Bode sympathisers can now have the floor.

Starting on 11-20:

11. Doughty - 7. Not our worst.
12. Shirley - 6. Brett James like - little penetration, lots of handball, reasonably accurate.
13. Hudson - 4. Can give it a belt, but no Brad Ottens.
14. Skipworth - 5. Hard to rate - 30 kicks in AFL footy, and I've only seen 18 of them. Doesn't strike me as outstanding.
15. Torney - 6. Nothing wrong with his kicking, but it's not a feature of his game.
16. McGregor - 6. Was usually pretty good at finding a target from CHB, but tends to sit on it too long. 12 goals 3 behinds this year is a good strike rate.
17. Welsh - 6. Not our worst forward at finding a teammate, but can run hot and cold.
18. Johncock - 8. Good at most facets of kicking - passing, goalscoring. Cool under pressure.
19. Stevens - 7. Brings other players into the play well; can run cold in front of goals.
20. Stenglein - 5. Love his hardness, but not a great kick.

21 - 30:

21. Gallagher - 7. Hits targets reasonably well, can blast it a bit when the heat goes on.
22. Perrie - 3. The heart is always in the mouth when he gets it.
23. McLeod - 8. I think he pulls out of his kicks more than he used to (knee soreness?) but good on either foot.
24. Burton - 5. Burn baby, burn. When Brett tries to pass it, we're often one possession away from a turnover. Goalkicking prowess (inside 40 metres) adds to his score.
25. Rutten - 6. I've only seen him in one match (other than Wizard Cup) but strikes me as the sort of player who doesn't get enough of it but is pretty effective when he has the Sherrin.
26. Schuback - 7. From what I've seen (2 games), he has a penetrating and accurate left foot kick.
27. Stevens - 4. Only slightly better than Perrie.
28. Begley - 7. One of the few providing penetration from the back half at the moment.
29.
30. Jericho - 6.5. Too early to be confident, but looks like he uses it well and finishes OK.

31+

31 - Krueger - Haven't seen him play.
32 - Ricciuto - 9. Tendency to sometimes pick the wrong option (particularly from a clearance) doesn't negate the fact there's no-one in the side I'd rather have with the ball.
33 - Reilly - 7. Neat user of the ball,
34 - Hart - 8.5. Second best kick in the side.
35 - Biglands - 3. Perrie-esque.
36 - Goodwin - 6.5. Has not progressed from his debut season, and too one-sided.
37 - Hentschel - 6. Has upside - technically looks OK.
39 - Mattner - 5. Stenglein-esque at best.
40 - Ladhams - 8. His steadfast refusal to man up doesn't detract from the fact that he is a very good kick.
44 - Bock - 6. Haven't seen enough to call it with confidence.

All IMHO.

maybe he gets 9 from a set shot, definitely not though when on the run. One of the worst at kicking rainbows to the leading forward.

number's 1 to 10 on our list.

1.Smith - 6 (at SANFL level) irrelevant really, but what I have seen his disposal isn't the worst part of his game
2. Carey 8 - doesn't waste the ball much
3. Massie 5 - disposal is the weak part of his game
4. Clarke 3 - bloody ordinary kick (particularly for goal) & one of the worst in the side
5. Burns 7 - his skills are OK, it just his decision making & desperation can be lacking
6. Watts - haven't seen him enough to comment
7. Smart 5 - probably now a similar standard to Massie
8. Bassett 6 - Like Marvin, I reckon most of the time the Hound uses the ball OK, even though he looks awkward.
9. Edwards 8 - Still above average, but has gone backwards this year IMO
10. Bode 4 - would have been lower if only based on his field kicking, but he is good around goals.

Burton (-10 wrong options, mostly kicks too high or the wrong side of leading forwards)
Bode (-5 up and unders, and can't kick over a jam tin!)
Massie (-3 as above, although handballs aren't bad)
Perrie (-10 terrible, clumsy!)
M.Stevens (+1 drops ball from a height to his boot...esp bad in windy conditions)
Welsh (+3, OK on occasions, but generally unreliable when shooting for goal)

Ricciuto (+9...mostly excellent, esp kicking for goal....but often blazes when clearing from packs....a bad clanger against the bombers in last Qtr...probably contributed to our run-on stopping)

D.Jarman (+10...the best kick I've seen - either foot, both in general field play and shooting for goal)

I will do them all in one stab and I am rating them on their field kicking but not for set shots. ;)

1. Matthew Smith - 5 - Pretty average actually. I must admit I haven't seen him this year but last year it was ordinary.
2. Wayne Carey - 8 - This bloke always delivers to the right spot and always to advantage.
3. Kris Massie - 5 - Pretty average. One major flaw in his game
4. Matthew Clarke - 4 - average
5. Ronnie Burns - 6 - goes alright but wouldn't want him kicking for my life ;)
6. Fergus Watts - 6 - One of the flaws in his game. He has improved on it from last year but still a fair way to go.
7. Nigel Smart - 5 - Deteriorating with age
8. Nathan Bassett - 6 - akward style but he does kick targets. When under pressure he just thmps it without any sort of technique
9. Tyson Edwards - 9 - Best in the squad IMHO on both sides of the body.
10. Matthew Bode - 4 - Average
11. Michael Doughty - 7 - Pretty good
12. Robesrt Shirley - 5 - Average
13. Ben Hudson - 7 - I actually think he has got a pretty good kick on him and does hit targets.
14. Hayden Skipworth - 6 - mixed bag. Sometimes he delivers it beautifully and sometimes its a shocker.
15. Jason Torney - 6 - Average.
16 - Ken McGregor - 7 - He also has an unorthodox style but it is effective, especially with long kicks.
17. Scott Welsh - 7 - Pretty good kick
18. Graham Johncock - 6 - He is improving but he is not a great kick in general field play.
19. Mark Stevens - 6 - No tht best kick in the side but effective. I must admit I have forgoten whats Stevo's kick like
20. Tyson Stenglein - 6 - Average
21. James Gallagher - 8 - I might be the only one but I rate his disposal ;)
22. Ian Perrie - 3 - Scrubber
23. Andrew McLeod - 9 - When on song and absolute beauty. When out of form can shank them badly.
24. Brett Burton - 4 - Pretty average
25. Ben Rutten - 7 - Pretty good foot skills for a slow truck
26. Jacob Schuback - 8 - Beautifully weighted left foot kick.
27. Scott Stevens - 4 - Average
28. James Begley - 7 - Pretty good.
29. Aidan Parker - 6 - Not the best kick going around. Despite "funny" action he uses it alright
30. Luke Jericho - 7 - Pretty good
31. Joshua Krueger - 6 - Not bad
32. Mark Ricciuto - 7 - Pretty good
33. Brent Reilly - 8 - beautiful kick
34. Ben Hart - 8 - I have forgoten whats his kick is like but from memory its pretty good :p
35. Rhett Biglands - 5 - Not the best part of his game. He is a thumping kick but not very accurate
36. Simon Goodwin - 7 - Thumping kick but he just bombs it too much for my liking
37. Trent Hentschel - 8 - One of the best deliverers of the ball in the side.
39. Martin Mattner - 4 - Scrubber
40. Chris Ladhams - 8 - Beautiful left foot kick.
41. Tim Hazell - 6 - OK kick
42. Brad Dabrowski - 5 - Average
43. Rowan Andrews - 5 - Bit mechanical but improving.
44. Nathan Bock - 5 - Average.

Yeah but its funny how there is a different set of rules for Burton and Bode. No one can tell me that Burton uses the ball that much better than Bode. The man is a clanger king but gets a hell of a lot more opportunities than Bode.

The do say that clangers are usually proportional to the size of one's nose. :D

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Good to see I am not alone. Gags is one of the neatest players on our squad. I think his only downfall is his height and his build. Imagine if he had Mattner's height.

Hmmm, wouldn't mind seeing some tapes of last season. This time last year Gallagher's kicking was simply woeful. (I can even recall one instance of watching him with the ball and pleading him not to burn it - JG was that continually bad - and he duly turned it over.)

He's been okay this year though.

Time to have a crack at my second lot of 10

11. Michael Doughty - 8 - one of the better disposers of the ball in the squad
12. Robert Shirley - 6 - Just below AFL standard
13. Ben Hudson - 7 - I agree with Stiffy that his disposal is up to AFL standard
14. Hayden Skipworth - 6 - Not bad, but just not quite there.
15. Jason Torney - 7 - AFL standard.
16 - Ken McGregor - 7 - Neat disposal in general
17. Scott Welsh - 6 - Would have rated him a 7 last year - not this year.
18. Graham Johncock - 7 - He's improved to be one of the better ones
19. Mark Stevens - 5- Drops the ball badly and hooks to his left.
20. Tyson Stenglein - 6 - not as good as it should be.

Average for this group of 6.5 - still below AFL standard of 7 overall.

Overall average for my first 20 is 6.2.
