Ratten gone?

Can't see him coaching them in 2013. He just can't seem to get them playing their best footy when it counts no matter what the circumstances.
To be fair to Ratten, they were insipid and theres not much he can do about that other than pull on the jumper again himself. They've had injuries to key players all year and the fact they've still remained around the mark is a positive, I would've thought, not a negative.

FWIW, to me the "get Malthouse" push has all the hallmarks of the "get Judd" move. It's not about a Messiah - and trying something because it worked for Collingwood (eventually) would be especially lame.

Getting a quality player like Judd was never a bad move. However, making him captain was possibly a bad move. Having said that, they have squandered his best years left and will need to start looking to the next generation of leaders. Judd has questionable leadership but Malthouse doesn't, he would bring real professionalism and leadership to Carlton. He might also create a few waves within the organisation but thats probably what they need.

No, it's actually worse.

One side was heavily tipped to miss the 8. The other was supposed to be a Top 4 lock.

No team in the history of the competition has choked more than Essendon this year.

But whatever helps you deflect from your club's awesome condition at present.

Even GWS would have made finals from 8-1

Malthouse won't make a scrap of difference to Carlton, Ratten has been sent to the slaughterhouse by his own club's administrator's. Mumbles has wanted Ratten out all year, i guess he will get his wish now.
Carlton were never certainties against the Suns, it was over 80% humidity up there last night, they might as well have been playing in Singapore which was at 74%. They still should've won, but i reckon the conditions helped the Suns a helluva lot.

And yet everyone's telling us that it was the softest first 9 rounds in Christendom, so that's not really a choke, that's a lopsided fixture.

Carlton were flag favourites early in the year, then lost to the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast!

Gee, nobody made that excuse for Richmond in the tropics 1500km further north. "Worst 47 seconds in football history" etc.

The difference in experience was almost 1200 games (compared with 228 in the Richmond match). It's almost unheard-of for teams to lose in that situation.

Whether or not Ratten is to blame, the loss was reprehensible.

Wasn't the captain Lance Whitnall before Judd arrived? Who else would have you made captain? Carlton have ran Judd to the ground but he has turned things around amongst the playing group in terms of professionalism, preparation etc. (a part from right now).

Before Judd came, those young players had Whitnall and Fevola to look up to.

Anyways I think the problem extends far beyond Ratten at the moment. Laziest bunch of footballers/millionaires I've seen in a long time.

Sick of hearing about flag favouritism. Only idiots bet on this in March.
Sam Newman could run a poll during street talk in Frankston and you'd get a more well reasoned response to who'd win the flag than you do looking at flag favourites early in the year

Can't agree with opposition fans jumping over another side in a down moment.

I dislike Carlton with the best of them, but making jokes out of guy potentially losing his job in the national media is poor taste.

quick couple of questions

has Malthouse said he wants the job ?
footage of Gibbs back chatting?
what is Rattens coaching contract status?

cheers

It's true that is a positive that not many want to acknowledge.

I'm not sure I agree though that he can't do much about the players being flat. It's worried me for some time that too often the boys don't seem to run out mentally prepared. So with 90% of football supposedly played above the shoulders, you have to wonder about the coaches ability to get the players up or whether he has the ability to spot the times they're not in the right mental space.

It was interesting listening to Brereton's comments during the game, he thought the conditions would definitely affect Carlton. With so much at stake i always thought the Blues would come back, but they were spent by 3QTR time, there was no gas in the tank at the end. The fact that the Suns had a few out too makes it even more puzzling that the Blues could lose all form inside a week. What does that say about Essendon? The Bombers might end up short priced favourites for the spoon next year.

It's still a choke regardless of how.

Whatever's helping you sleep at night.

I know, and isn't it really odd how we nearly lost to GC early in the year and then comfortably accounted for Carlton the next week earlier in the year?

Also, what the hell was up with that time when Hawthorn was thrashed by Richmond, and then the week after they thrashed North Melbourne? How is it that North Melbourne are now going to make the finals and possibly even win a final?

I have a crazy theory that sometimes in football things change from week to week, but this is an unpopular viewpoint and apparently there are apparently only absolutes.

Kernahan's record in administration at Carlton isn't brilliant.
Should he fall on his sword?

For an interim/caretaker president he has certainly set up camp for the long haul. Sacrificing Ratten to the baying masses and another populist "We are Carlton! Fudge the rest!" pronouncement at the B&F might buy Sticks another 12 months of unchallenged leadership in the recycled cardboard palace.

At some stage the spotlight will fall on him as it did to Bowers and Kelly at Brisbane. Busting up the boys club is the first step towards turning it around.

I think Choco has as much chance of going back to Port than coaching Carlton. Can't see Malthouse doing it.

I reckon Eade might get the gig, he doesn't seem too enthused about Port.
On the market is also Harvey, where does he rate?
Scary and Tanky. He'd be a good guy for coaching.
