Ratten gone?

I'd say they'll push him out the aeroplane on the way home.

Will be gone after next weekend. No way should he be coach. Has taken Carlton backwards with a pretty decent list.

The way they lost has to be the damage for Ratten, if the drums are ringing true I think he is gone.

Melbourne could give him a small pulse with a win next weekend, but Freo in Freo I don't think so. With Brock McLean and his comments that is going to be no motivation for the Demons.

Carlton would do well to bring in Choco. If GWS are still actually dicking about (I suspect they're not, but still), they should swoop down on that like the proverbial seagull on the proverbial chip.

Spell's the end for Ratten. Whilst everyone barring Carlton is celebrating the GC victory, this is bad news for the rest of the league as this significantly increases the odds of Malthouse coaching Carlton.

Why why do coaches put external pressure on themselves, saying top 4 or bust was a very stupid thing to say.

Worsfold is very much the boiler-plate of what a coach should be. Very little carry-on, the odd wry backhander at the presser, and most importantly, no promises he can't keep.

Damn, the only thing that made me feel good about losing to the blues this year was the fact that it allowed ratten to exist as coach. Carlton will never be any good with that mad magazine character in charge

I think Carlton are in a tough spot. It'll be very harsh of Ratten to give him the flick after one disappointing season. I thought he had done pretty well the past seasons for Carlton and he was unlucky this year with all the injuries they had (although we have had a lot of injuries and haven't sunk to such depths).

That said, I think at the end of the day, Ratten is a good but not great coach in the Neil Craig mould (ignoring Craig's last season). These types of coaches seldom win premierships. I think in a funny way these types of coaches are more harmful to a club in the long-run compared to a flat-out bad coach (like KB for instance) since they generally do just enough to get a contract extension with a token top-8 appearance. I think as ruthless as it is, they need to cut ties with Ratten and go full out for Malthouse. If they continue the way they are now they will be stuck in the middle of the road, good enough for a finals berth here and there, not good enough to be serious players in the finals but not bad enough to get quality players in the draft.

that sort of loss is very dangerous for him. it wasn't so much they lost, but how and the circumstances of the loss.

needing to win to get in the 8, against an expansion team with little to play for and that happens. ouch
