Ratten gone?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Was that before or after they gave him the two year contract?

Paying a close friend out for a year after stabbing him in the back (essentially) could be seen as somewhat of a 'fair' move and one which would have been discussed as an option. Once again, don't kid yourself.

Also, in response to the other poster, outside of a preliminary final appearance (and a good one) Ratten was gone. The problem was that was never going to happen without the club's and the players full backing. As soon as Malthouse left Collingwood, Carlton had words with him (and some players heard about it). Bet your house on it.

I'm like a pig in shit. Strife at Essendon, strife at Carlton, strife at Collingwood, posters from the aformentioned clubs melting down and turning on each other. All the meanwhile, the Hawks are walk up starts for the Grand Final. Delicious.

Pity the Tigers aren't in crisis.;)

I hate to point out the massive elephant in the room........but with Geelong still around, there is nothing certain about Hawthorn this year!

Geelong won't make it past the second week and Hawthorn will cruise to its 2nd flag in 5 years. If we win it in 2013 as well, that will be in 3 in 6 years and we will be in the same league as the current Geelong team. Maybe even better, since we went back to back whilst Geelong haven't.

While it sucks that he was sacked like this.....don't forget, He just got a $500K paycheck and is free to work elsewhere next year...not exactly a total bum deal on his behalf....

Carlton promised to undertake an indepth review and they chickened out/lost patience because of the Gold Coast loss. It's really sad for Carlton fans that their board couldn't wait a week for the season to end and to actually do the hard yards instead of just sacking the coach presumably because Malthouse bluffed them into it.

Mick Malthouse is a smart man, he doesn't want to leave anything to chance. He wants the Carlton job and he knows there's a chance a proper review would prevent him from getting it, so he picks the club's lowest point to throw his hat into the ring with a time limit. It worked.

If Geelong had chickened out of the 2006 review like Carlton did and sacked Thompson there's no doubt in my mind we never would have turned things around the way we did.
Reliable source on one Carlton forum says the review has already started or finished. Was never going to survive after we missed the finals off the back of losses to Port and GC.

Best to get it done now so the supporters will show up and give Ratten a send off in his last game as coach.

Nonsense, I'm reliably informed by boffins on here that sacked coaches have their heads put on pikes which are on display over the Traitor's Gate.

Guy got f*cked over by politics and pressure along time ago from Malthouse leaving the pies. Logic fails again.

Its true that he got ****ed over...but he still got a very good payout and is free to coach next year (which I think he will) so really, its money for jam.

It wouldn't be something of a 'fair' move, it would be an insane move by the clowns that offered the contract. Do you truly believe that the powerbrokers at Carlton expected the team to miss the finals? The Malthouse factor would not have come into play if the Blues met or had even got near their benchmark.

Well, well, chalk me up on the big board Mr. Costanza.

If the review finished 3 days after your loss to the Gold Coast then it wasn't a review, it was an inquisition and a kneejerk reaction.

Are you willing to vouch for the fact that the number 1 reason for your lack of success was the head coach Brett Ratten's performance?

Mark Thompson coached pretty poorly in 2006 and we lost to bottom 4 sides as we fell short of the finals but the review which was extremely comprehensive and lengthy rather than hurried and took into the account the season as a whole from afar decided we'd be better hiring Balme, replacing Lovell, making Harley captain and others than just sacking Thompson.

I'm not saying sacking Brett Ratten was the right or wrong move but the Carlton board cannot possibly say with confidence that they know they have done the right thing sacking him now.

this has been a knee jerk reaction from a board that is scared of its own shadow. brett ratten was a loyal servent and tireless warrior to that corrupt, souless orginisation.

Carlton have had a super soft draw with only one game against each top 4. Lost the lot. One game against north, geelong and saints so far and lost the lot. Beat collingwood twice and free once that's 3 wins 7 losses against the top 9. Heartless club, heartless players. Big review required and more heads should roll not old time players or faceless minnows.

Hahahhahhaa.....got to love you mate! You are talking back to back when you haven't even won the first one yet. Some may see that as arrogance..but in your case I like to see it as just a huge dose of optimism....with, at this stage at least, no connection with reality.

Good that you aspire to Geelong's achievements though. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

He could coach, he just didn't have the cattle.

Brittain, Pagan, Ratten, I wonder who will be the next sacrificial lamb?

The place won't get any better until they get rid of the clowns at head office.

Collingwood is top 4. They beat them convincingly twice.

Against us they had a massive disadvantage with umpires but of course you wouldn't know that.

Against the umpires did not help either but the game was relatively close despite missing key players as they have all year.

Against Geelong and West Coast they should've won.

Just rewatch the games rather than lazily posting pointless information.

Short-sighted and reactionary, but was always going to happen. It's the Carlton way.

I'd back it in that Ratts will go on to a long and successful coaching elsewhere and someone else will reap the benefits. And hopefully the mail is correct and the Teabaggers do end up with old man Malthouse- the two deserve each other.
