Ratten interview

Not to mention Ratts maintained Walker was a required player and Walker requested a trade himself. To suggest that with the evidence and history available to all last year on Thornton didn't mean he was 100% expendable is laughable.

Now that Hampson can actually see the ball at least he has an increased chance of marking it!

I think this is a good move on Ratten's behalf.
Trading for a ready made forward could be problematic as not many are on offer and the ones that might be up for trade will most likely not be superstar forwards.

We are in the position of having 3 ruckman. After Warnock's end to the season, it seems as though (at the moment) he will hold on to 1st ruck.

It makes sense to train one of the three of them as a forward when that is what we so desperately need.

Hampson being probably the most athletic of the three (espicially with Kreuzer post surgery) seems the best choice.

What happened to chasing an established key forward?
Would have thought our KPP posts needed the most filling rather than our midfield depth...

For a team that is aspiring to challenge seriously for a premiership in 2012, having a front half structure built on a 29year old Waite who averages approx 12 games a season over the last three years, and Hampson who really they are trying to convert a ruckman into a key forward is going to be a major challenge.

All our challengers Geelong/Collingwood/Hawthorn are better equipped in this area, and it would surprsing if we were not at least looking Plan B if Waite/Hampson do not reach expectations, e.g at least at some second tier options Lisle from Hawks would seem a obvious one.

Rats pls pls get Hampson to simply carry bricks all pre season and harden his tendons up - In between that he should do rock climbing sessions - He needs to learn how to clunk them this year or ship him off for what we can get I'm getting tired of watching those match stick arms fold like a pack of cards - He can do it it's physical not mental

Would have thought there were a couple of reasons why the Hampster would benefit from eye surgery.

I effn knew it!!
Been telling people for a while that Hambone had vision problems, too often the ball hits his hands before he expects it to.
Big Kev here.

Fair - How bout his wrists and fingers then

There is nothing wrong with his arms, wrists or fingers.

There was something wrong with his hand->eye coordination which was apparent to some of us when the ball appeared to be arriving before he was expecting it. Hampson getting the corrective eye laser surgery should sort that issue out and he should hopefully be able to see the ball and judge when to actually mark it rather than having the ball come flying in and hit his hands then he tries to mark it.

So i take it you have never seen his arms and just want to fling some shit around.

Ratts did talk about the key forwards in the interview, made it sound like they looked and there's nothing decent out there up for grabs, which sounds about right

'to be trained up as a forward' is an interesting comment. it suggests that he might not have had too much training for it in spite of being played there. also, previous 're-training' has had pretty successful results you could say, walker and thornton. encouraging.

incidentally i thought hampson played his better footy this year during day games (+ open roof).

Hammer Showed signs this year the pennys about to drop and he will start taking marks. When he flies in packs nobody can get near him. Huge X factor. was always going to take time to develop and started to look menacng this year before injury struck. I think plan to train him
as a fwd is a great idea and totally logical. Could be unstoppable. Thornton is a decent lead up type but won't be the big target you need to kick long to in pressure finals. That's what Hammer and Kreuz are for. Both players have had a few yrs and injuries and are not far off blossoming. We could serious ruin some teams if these two step up which I think they will, it's just a matter of time.

He is one of the most exciting players on our list. Huge upside and for mine showed glimpses of what he can do when playing as no.1. Really looking forward to seeing him in 2012 and will be interesting to see how the Kruezer, Hampson, Waite forward combination works. It's an exciting, athletic and potentially potent look.

THIS!

Why chase after a big forward that will cost too much and destabilise the team with what we have to pay him and what the other club will demand with free agency coming in next year?

Yeah if there was something cheap take it. But there is not so forget it.

We already know that the stars are taking unders in their new contracts to win the flag and create a dynasty so I think this is the perfect thing to do with Hampson, Kruezer and Thorton etc until then.

Who knows the eye surgery could be the final piece of the puzzle and Hampson could we be the Butcher of 2012. Wait could have a Scotland year, Kruezer could be 3 times better than last year after he gains confidence in his knee, one of the 2010 draftees could also take a big leap.

One thing on its own would be hopeful but we have a number of options and I would prefer to see if some of those eventuate than spend big on a semi spud or even a decent KPF (even though none are available!).

We have to think of risk and reward here ... the reward that it will solve our problems over the risk of paying too much and what effect that has on the playing group with contacts, morale etc.

I think we have and will make the right choice.

GO BLUES!

I think with kreuz , hampson and warnock they are all ready to step up in 2012. We've seen glimpses but I can see at least 1 of the 3 getting into AA form.

For those who are worried about hampson in this role, the fact is our fwd line has learnt to cope with being undersized and those players have had to work very hard for each goal... Even if hampson kicked 2 goals per match and just brought our smalls into it - that could be the missing link.

Lets start at making a contest first.

Hammer and Waite are to injury prone for me, and Waite is now 28 or so.
Only hope i see for us to win A Flag in the next few years is if eitheir Kreuzer stands up in the forward which is unlikely as i think he is Ruckman come forward.

Or either someone llike Casboult steps up and or mature age rookie we draft. i cannot see Hammer or Waite being the the big men to be consistent enough in finals games for us to go all the way. Barring injury i see us making top four and thats it for me. Have not got the Cloke, Buddy etc required to win a flag.

If you want to talk about Geelong they are a different kettle of fish, great backline and Mids with tremendous experience to win in big games. Managed beautifully by Sott ie resting players and the right time.

Next year Judd needs to be rested at least 3 to 5 games for us to be at peak comes finals time.I would have made a huge move for Tippet, but he wants to go home!

Agree l think the Blues are taking a risk pinning their faith in Waite/Hampson combination next year if we are seriously being a geninue flag contender, we can make top 4 next year, but do not see us matching Collingwood/Geelong and Hawthorn by pinning our hopes on Waite who is now in his latter stages of his career and Hampson, not many ruckman at all have shown the ability to be succesful key forwards, and although Hampson has significant upside as a ruckman, he is no forward.
