its all crap. heard it all before.

on notice blah blah blah, and then he will make some nonsical change (like Bentley!!), and the same old passengers will sit quietly in the back of the wagon while Judd and Murphy drag us along, them with their tongues hanging out.

I was there last night as well, and for the first time I can remember, there were blokes who looked like they have given up. I can forgive skill errors on blokes who arent that good, but not not even having a dig.

Those players owe us supporters more. The MC owes us more. The coach owes us more. We have stuck by this team and club through times when many a fan jumped firmly off, and they repay us with week after week of half a dozen blokes just running around, and 4 or 5 trying to carry an entire team. I dont care if your not as skilled as the next bloke, try harder and work harded and I bet you come out on top

All I can hope is this is not just typical media spouting from the coach and he makes some real changes. I dont need to go into it here about who should go. Any half decent footy fan can watch 10 minutes of Carlton and know who the spuds are........

I can think of three players that would run through a brick wall to get into the Carlton side at present - Steven Browne, Setanta O'Hailpin and Mitch Robinson. At least with these boys, you know you get an honest performance each week, and they will slog their guts our from siren to siren for you.

And to Ratts, it's great to talk the talk, but can you walk the walk - guess we'll find out on Thursday night. Look what happened to Milne and Dal Santo when they were dropped last year, their club has gone on to bigger and better things. I can think of 2 players that I would drop, so they get the message, and might serve to put a rocket up them. Number 6 and Number 24.

I agree with every single word of this. Guess that makes me a dirty suckup. :(

You cannot drop every player at once, and these are two players that have probably earned their chance to be given extra time to perform.

As you suggest though, both are seemingly now next in line, and I don't doubt that we may see one dropped either this week or next if they don't lift.

What I'm worried about is that the whole process will be made into a mockery, i.e. You play bad, get dropped for 2 weeks, put in a good effort for at least 1 of those matches and you know you'll be back in the seniors. This then really defeats the whole process.

I know a lot don't like Stevens, I personally really like him. He could really turn our midfield into a 'fab four' come finals but I just can't see it at the moment.

I think we should not just drop him, but drop him for a set lenghty period - say 6 games or so irrespective of how he performs. Once those 6 games are up, he comes back into the side when he has busted a gut for consective weeks in the reserves.

It would be a big call, but if it happened, it might make all the difference with the remainder of his career, it may make all the difference in our run towards finals in the back half of the season, and it may make all the difference in progressing past week one of the finals.

Would he "bust a gut" if dropped to the Ants? Or just wait until the seniors get desperate after another failure?
It would definitely put him on notice, and I think he needs the confidence.

All well and good to talk it up but lets see if Ratten and the MC have the balls to follow through with it.

So far he hasn't come across as someone prepared to make the bold calls (apart from the Whitnall sacking) and doesn't seem like someone who likes to give a bit of a rocket up the player's arses but let's wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.

The Whitnall sacking is shaping up to be a bad decision, he would have easily slotted into our frail defence.

Walker and Grigg would chop off a finger to be out there.

Ratten dropped Houlihan and Scotland to the ire of the supporters.

Did Ratten make the hard call then?

I recall Ratten being criticised for not playing Scotland after he ran around in circles against Brisbane.

Looks like a good call after last night.

If we don't drop a name player or two, Ratts' stern warning will be nothing but hot air.

We shouldn't bring back Houlihan for Stevens after a week.

We should drop Bower, Austin and Jamison for a taller version of Stevens.

Great call.

Horrible night. I was in a corporate box with a bunch of work colleagues. - Crap seats. Basically behind the goals on a 45 degree angle. Worst box ever! The support for Carlton was excellent. So was the crowd numbers in general. Plenty of people came early to watch the TAC Cup as well, so footy is well and good on the Gold Coast.

Now...

Why the hell can a side like Essendon win with 12 players straight out of High School, or players from overseas that don't even play the sport, and yet, our side that have been together for a few years now, with minimal injuries, can't even take it to cellar-dwellers?

The answer -> .... We have a ****ing assistant coach standard person given the position of head coach. Ratten is shit!!! I've been thinking this ever since we lost to Essendon, when we refused to play man on man, and refused to put a hard tag on Lovett. He is a joke! I ask you all, what exactly is our game-plan? Last night it looked like we were trying that same zoning shit that Essendon made a mockery of on Friday night. Zoning is nothing but an excuse to not man up and not chase.

When Ratten was given his initial contract he admitted that if he couldn't get the side into the finals within his 2 years, then he shouldn't be given a contract extension... And yet we bloody already did it!! I'll give him the rest of the year, but I don't see where this club is going under Ratten. I'm not seeing any direction, no desire, no destiny. There are some absolute gems in that list. If a coach knows what he's doing then we should be dominating.... And yet we have another year of more ****ing crap!

It's amazing we did extend the contract......after the absolute mess we created by extending Pagan's. We are still a dumb club in many ways.....

Ratten is in the second year of coaching, you cant do this job in 2 years, it takes at least 4. Clarkson has been at Hawthorn since late 2004 and achieved 5 wins in his first season in 05 (Rattan achieved 10). He achieved 10 wins in his second season in 06 to finish 11th where we finished in Ratts first year and they then finished 5th and then won a flag in his 4th year.

All this talk of Ratts contract and his coaching record is rubbish. Get a grip and wait it out. It takes a few years not a few months.

RATTS..all these threats are all talk until you actually do it. Or else it is the same crap...JUST TALK.

Dropping the Axe on young players or fringe players is not showing you are serious. It is time for Simpson, Stevens, Thornton, JR, Wiggo, Cloke and yes even Fev at some time to be sent to the bullants for a few weeks. Then we will believe Ratts is serious about playing for the jumper...until then it is all F^^^N TALK....

I really, really want to believe him but i just cant. He hasnt go the balls to drop the big names.

How easy would it be to drop Cloke this week. If you need a back up for Kreuse in the ruck bring in Carlos (Hammo will learn enuf continuing in the 2's)

I am not a big fan of Stevo - if he can't be a hard nut he has to be an athlete and he won't commit to either it would seem. I can't imagine him playing against the Bumbers midfield much less the Cats BUT I wonder whether he was 100% last night.
Since when does he only have 45% effectiveness  Maybe it was because he had 7 contested possies (Gibbsy only had 4?). I don't know why I am trying to defend him, I suppose it's because I thought he was coming good last week (when he had 12 contested possies)

I am thinking the increase in contested possies could be that he really is being hammered because the opposn see him as one of Fev's best suppliers (and the game plan v Carlton is basically: stop Fevola)
