Polks was our hero yesterday, no doubt....but there was another one, only I've looked and looked but can't make out who it was..Goose?...anyway, after McKeever touched the ball, one of our players picked up the ball and instead of standing in the square and looking for somewhere to kick....he ran straight away and kicked it straight down the middle!

..if he had of stood around umming and aahhing, things would have turned out differently..

What he did, turned/saved the game for us (as did McKeever, but..) and I wish they would run with it more often and catch the opposition off guard before they can man up or get back..

**edit: ...just looked another couple of times....it was Drummo!...I kept missing who commentators said it was..and after so many viewings, knew which player to watch and saw the number.......brilliant effort Drummo, you saved the day with your quick thinking!

Technically he should have been called back, but the umps owed us one. :D

Drummo to himself, to Rich, to Polks, to Jed, to Polks - GOAL!

Incidentally, when Rich took his mark, there looked to be an absolutely piss poor effort at a contest from one of the Weagles talls. It looks like Cox. Could have stopped the goal there and then.

For all those asking for an apology for criticism of Polkinghorne- not coming from me anyway, I'm afraid. Yesterday showed what he is capable of and what we should reasonably expect, week in and out.

I agree Tassie, the criticism of Polks (and at one stage last week I screamed that I never wanted to see him in Lions colours again) is based on the fact that we all know that he has all the tools required to be at least a good player at AFL level, but for whatever reason he he has been under-achieving for the last few years.

I'm sure everyone on here just wants Polks to fulfil his potential, and if his performance yesterday doesn't help him turn the corner nothing will. Our team is a much better one with Polks playing well, so let's hope we see him really kick on from here.

Will have to watch the replay, but part of the post-game bewilderment for mine was losing all concept of time in the last quarter.

I couldn't see anything that might of suggested game time remaining, in the sense that at other cliff hangers I've been to, there's a runner sprinting around with 1 finger in the air or something that tips you off. TV or radio would have had it obviously, but live, with the dark clouds rolling in like some monster movie, it was twilight zone stuff. No-one seemed to ice the clock - there probably wasn't time from our perspective to ice the clock. It just seemed like go for broke until the siren. Just amazing.

While Polk's torp was great and we all erupted. Did anyone else notice Brown was 20m in the clear, had he missed I shudder to think of the state of this place.

36mins gone on the clock. Had every reason to think the siren would blow before Brown could take a mark. He took the responsibility to go for glory. Good on him.

Confirmed - Cox it was.

I can't remember where i read it through the week... Someone was questioning Lester's pace. There was a few times yesterday where he seemed to have some burners on him.

It was talked about in the pre-game thread (I remember asking the question) that he hadn't really shown his speed in a match so far, but he seemed to have speed in him because he tested at the draft camp well. Watching the match yesterday taking specific notice of it, I agree with you.

Yep, a clutch, match-winning 65 metre torp every week or go home Polks! :p

J/k Tassie. I agree with your point. One swallow does not make a summer. Polks has to build from here. I think he is a confidence player, so hopefully that kickstarts him.

How'd the electric chicken wire go?

The family concerned were relocated further along so they didn't cause me any drama.

Malcolm Holmes could not have been any more helpful. A thorough gentleman.

It's many a long day since I enjoyed a game more. Maybe the Carltank final. But it'd be a close thing.

Playing basically as our 3rd tall defender he hasn't had much chance to really use any speed he has. He never looked to get beaten badly on a lead by anyone, his closing speed always looked ok, so i guess there is no reason why he wouldn't have a bit of toe if thrown into the middle.

Thats great to hear about Holmes, seems to been just positives about him since he joined us.

Tell me more about our new found mid?

As Reserves coach Nathan Clarke explained: “We wanted to see him (Karnezis) work through a bit of fatigue and how he’d handle the rough ‘n tumble of the centre square. And he handled it with aplomb.”

Karnezis did not spend one minute in the forward line and rewarded the experiment with 33 possessions, three goals and, according to his coach, “a lot of clearances and contested footy”.

“That’s not to say he’ll play in the midfield again next week, or ever again, but it’s good to know he can go in there and play well,” Clarke said.

Indeed, if nothing else Karnezis has added another string to his armoury in a game in which you can never have too many midfielders.

Beau Waters can accept a 1 week ban for his hit on Redden. I think he probably should've got off.

Jordan Lewis may be unavailable for the Hawks game. Handy.

Glass getting off because "there was no other realistic way to contest the ball" is a joke in my opinion. Whatever happened to "the head is sacrosanct"?

I am comfortable with the MRP's explanation. I don't think Glass lined him up and he really probably couldn't have done anything different other than give Green a clear run at the ball.

Should have been a free kick IMO, but nothing else.

Is it just me that wondered about the 10 - 2 free kick count in the third quarter?

How is it that an umpire from 10 metres away failed to see the charge on Green and did not award a free but the West Coast player was reported?

The inability of the TV presenters to even know the Lions names is legendary - why was Lynchy in Melbourne?

Just questions to ponder.
