Ones the captain and supposedly best player.

The other was a delisted player we’ve turned into a solid role player.

When was the last time we got beaten by an easybeat team?
West Coast beat us last in 2021 when they finished (just) above us on the ladder.

North beat us by 2 points in 2020, one of their 3 wins for the year.

We don't really get beaten by the easy beat teams, at least not in the last 5 years. Wouldn't be worried about this game at all.

I'm genuinely interested in hearing what people think about this - from my view his pressure act and tackling stats are also very ordinary, and he's rarely ever defending 1v1 or intercepting.

What does he bring to the team every week that makes him an automatic selection? I love his endeavour but he wouldn't be getting a game at any serious club at the moment.

You’re comparing apples and oranges, noting Stocker’s a mid sized defender that brings contest and impact, whereas Steele is an inside mid expected to bring clearance work and contested effort.

Anywho, seen as you’re comparing the two let’s look at their CBA / centre clearance ratio which shows Steele as one of the more poorly performing across our list. Seriously not a good look for what should be our most reliable inside mid.

I worry about every “should win” game.
I can’t help myself.
Much more relaxed going into those we are not expected to win.

I reckon the only smart choice you’ve made for a few posts was dropping the Jack Steele v Liam Stocker comparisons.

Stocker isn’t an automatic selection and I have zero doubt if we had more capable mid defenders (not rebounders) he’d likely be playing at Sandy as he has plenty in recent years.

Having said that you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think every team loves and needs a hard and tough defensively minded player who lifts the team with their efforts.

That stuff doesn’t get a lot of stats or love but it’s critical.

I reckon we will lose Howard to injury this week, and perhaps bring in Wood & Jones. If WCE get Allen back our defense will be stretched again. Like the Freo game we either win by plenty or lose, its going to be a tough Perth trip.

I still think we have a bottom 4 list, but with Lyon's coaching we might finish a little higher. We have way too many list holes, a constant stream of injuries with no depth to trouble the top 8.

The list is the best it has been for years. Our biggest issue now is consistency, player availability and having them all play their best footy at the same time.

Oh I get it, but Jones is taking us nowhere and as much as we want Hunter to be a star, he will never be. McCrae has been a blessing, but all it's done is amplify how bad our midfield is.

If it were me I'd keep all the kids in..

Because we've had a brutal fixture, and now an opportunity against an opponent that Collard, Wilson, Box and Garcia can all feel good about.

Does it mean we take the eagles lightly?

No.

But we're not in a win now phase, so give the kids a chance to feel good about themselves against an opponent they can genuinely compete against
