Not sure why but I'm not sold on Fish as I am with most of our other draftees. However he does remind me of a young Dahlhaus, and he was important in the last, which is rare for a first year.
You need to watch his hands in close. Lightning quick. Will be a very good player for us for a long time. Another astute selection by SOS.

I had CC after the 1st but Jack may sneak in with his better showing (5 goals vs GC this year).

Shai Bolton is the only other I can think of that may be a chance but only 1-2 quarters from him as well from what I gathered.
Yeah out of sos and Bolton. Bolton had a good 1st half and went missing when the game was up for grabs (2 ineffective touches in 2nd half). Sos had a quiet 1st 3 quarters but stood up big time when the game was there to be won. Matchwinner vs downhill skier. Should be sos but who knows.

Spot on. I watched a replay of the last quarter and zac and he did some fantastic things. He really stood up. Based on that he has the ability to keep going.
yeah im very very bullish about this guy - he moves through traffic like a hot knife through butter and has quick hands. When he gets some more confidence he will look to put it on his hoof and kick goals.

Casboult seemed much better live than on TV I'm assuming? He definitely had a presence out there and looked good aside from goal kicking. After he crashed into May they all knew he was around. Goal kicking is half is worth.

I think we got way to defensive way too early. It was rather bizarre. The amount of times we had only 3 forwards at centre bounces in the third qtr was unsettling. At one point it was 2 forwards vs 5 defenders. I'm not surprised at all they managed to come back. Even at the bounce after there goal to get the lead we only had 4v6 in our forward line. We got sorted thereafter, but we can't be closing up shop that early. The same happened against Collingwood, against better teams we lose both these games because we closed up with too much football left.

Curnow on Ablett was fantastic. He might have had 25 but his impact was so far short of his standard. Every possession was under pressure and very rarely did he actually get a clean disposal.

The team effort on Saad was outstanding. Week after week he makes all those runs. Against Carlton he was corralled and couldn't get away, everyone was aware whenever he had the ball and chased/tackled exceptionally.

On Suns board earlier tonight, they are complaining that the Victorian umpires were cheats and biased towards us throughout the game. Probably travelling home with the team on the same flight, sipping chardonnay etc with the team. How idiotic and naïve and childish are those Suns supporters?

All 5 of them.

I agree his kicking for goal was dreadful, however his crash and bash was fantastic to watch and created a lot of opportunities for others.
That post was made just after the siren when I was still annoyed at him potentially costing us the game.

His misses at critical times and turn overs that undid Alot of work had me worked up.

He did Alot of good up the ground early but that's not much nearly any big man does at AFL level.

This year he has improved but he is just a place holder til we develop a more capable forward.

Back from US and my good wife was kind enough to record the Suns game for me to watch so I did.

1. I thought Gibbs played an amazing game, consistently everywhere for 4 quarters, tackled, covered, set up play, kicked goals - just an awesome effort from him. If he played like this or even 3/4 as well as thsi week in week out he would be rated one of the 5 best mids in the game no doubt. Special mention - I really really enjoyed seeing for the first time ever some mongrel in him - especially the way he went at Gablett a few times - real leadership stuff. I think Adelaide woudl haveto give up a lot more than a low first rounder for Carlton to be interested - on yesterday's form Gibbs wpould be their best mid. They can GOGF if Gibbs has changed his mind and really bought in - he is worth much more than a pick 15ish - much more.

2. Casboult disapointed with his kicking - everything else was very good but his kicking was bad. Thomas seems to be playing decent football - not elite but very decent, I'm happy for the bloke.

3. All the kids are developing - Charlie is now improving markedly each week - a bit like a Fyfe or a Bontompelli - Charlie coudl play inside mid and hiugh impact HFFer...Jack is under rated - probably because his kick at goal is suspect - he does everything else really well. Fisher showed serious smarts when rotated through middle and in congestion - the kid is an extraction machine and a serious pressure act when playing in teh forward pocket...very very fast. SPS and Cuningham didnt show much - they played their roles - but I rtepeat - Cuningham coudl develop into an elite midfielder has all the attributes...

4. I am so relaxed these days watching Carlton's defensive play - there is a level of cohesiveness and system that just works. Great to see Docherty rotated through the middle - increasingly each week he had great impact a few times on ball.

Can't believe the improvement we are witnessing - this year the side is playing better as the year progresses - the benefitw of having Kreuzer fit and firing like an AA ruckman alongside Gibbs and Murphy ( pretty sure Murph is not 100%) is paying dividends. Cripps has more in him I'm sure.

Have top keep Murphy/Gibbs/Kreuzer together and playing whilst the kids develop - just have to. I suspect the three of them are really enjoying their football - more than they have perhaps in years.

Was just reading through those. One guy in particular is quite bullish on it, especially the first he reckons. I just went back and watched the first quarter and they're all there. The hands in the back to Charlie was probably a little soft, but it was there. Place your hands on an opponent's back in a marking contest and most of the time they will call it, even if there is no obvious use of force. The other one was maybe the Lamb high contact, but that was there too. You could argue that he ducked into it, but he was bending down over the ball and pretty much just picked it up as the GC player runs into him front on. Not sure that Lamb was ducking into it, or just trying to protect his head because he saw the contact coming. That one was only a point anyway.

They seem quite precious about this loss. I saw maybe half a dozen Blues posts pretty much all saying best of luck to Barlow and one claimed that there were too many 'Blooz' gloaters in the thread.
