Second year player who we just extended for another two years, for a sad chapter it's weird that we decided to ask for a sequel...

So you wanted to play without someone in the ruck?

You're saying the coach not implementing an idea in your mind every week shits you?
I know nothing compares to coach etc
All I’m saying is that from my viewpoint it seems we react too slowly or a change doesn’t occur

With injuries things must change, I’m just being provocative and asking a question.

Charlie can’t beat 3 players

That pack mark that Charlie took really was Carey-esque.

I haven’t cried in decades, yet I couldn’t help but well up in the eyes watching Charlie.

And it made me realise, when the day comes that we finally win a premiership, I am going to have 20 years of tears come streaming down my face.
RUOK?

Polson is another sad chapter in our player development hall of shame

Came to the club full of promise, pre-season of 2017 was showing great signs as a rover, first couple of games for NB posted big numbers as a mid (high 20's), got injured and has never been the same ever since

WTF!!

Piffle, watch the match and him

I did, on the box this week.

Pressure wise it was a decent game. But yesterday and even previously for the NB's he just isn't getting the numbers he did at the start.

And yesterday could've been better too but on a number of occasions Cam just takes that little bit too long in possession or gets pushed aside in the contest

Traits that weren't there at the start

Go back and read the comments on the promise he showed as a genuine mid - a Murphy replacement was a common thought

Shame that it hasn't and may not come to fruition. Why is the question I'm asking? IMO our player development is still sub par, NB's still not the best environment for our players to improve

He's got a different role. He's only played in thrashings before yesterday. I think he's been given a specific pressure role and he's learning it.
I thought he was good yesterday and will improve from now on :)

Really liked Polson's game yesterday. Good effort to come back after a big hit early. Shows character. Chased and harassed all day..
Yep. Stats don’t always tell the full story. Played the small forward pressure role really well.

Really liked his pressure and tenacity. Would like to know how many pressure acts he was involved in.

On top of that, was hard at it and never backed down. Saw Cripps acknowledging this a couple of times during the game.

Would like to see him and Pickett playing the fast, tackling pressure roles in the forward line.

In a strange way, inyourcool's correct; what Polson contributed yesterday was not really enough, not all match. 5 tackles and 4 possessions aren't really adequate for a forward pocket who hasn't kicked a goal at AFl level.

However, had we 4 exactly like him producing what he produced in the forward half - to complement Charlie, Cas, Kerr and McKay, depending on who plays, talls vs smalls structure etc - we'd be replicating Richmond's setup almost completely. Their goal is to have just so many harassing players that the defenders get no respite, and while they're better early over the course of the match the small forwards superior fitness - Richmond recruited middle distance runners with exceptional pace, rather than burst players - and their tackling pressure begin to force panic in a defensive structure, breaking it down slowly over time, causing turnovers with the first disposal out of the back half, and allowing for a rapid entry in response.

Polson's problem isn't that he's not doing enough, it's that he lacks the structure around him that makes his position more effective. If you don't have those 4-6 pressure smalls, you alone need to be exceptional at it or to have sufficient impact from your sparse disposals - ala, Cyril, Betts, Thomas from a few years ago - that you alone are enough. In an AFL context, it's very rare that one player alone is enough.

Not to mention all the other stuff (that he's a second year player, that he's been injured, that he's physically still small and has a long way to go before he's quite AFL hardened, etc) that he still has to work on.

His first half was elite in terms of pressure yesterday, and it's the first time he's demonstrated a capacity to be elite at AFL level. I dunno about some, but for me that's a glass half full sort of a proposition there, with his second half/what he did with the ball being the glass half empty. He's something to work with, at least.

Not sure if this has been said but
At the end of 3rd where were always going to lose, why not Rowe back and weiters up forward as a plan c?

Football is versatility these days
I wouldn’t of gave a crap if he got 0 possessions and gave 2 free kicks away
We were always going to lose so why not try something?

That’s the type of things that shit me each week.

We can’t go any worse as we have one win for season
Rowe was in the ruck all last quarter

Don't think it's any coincidence Dow and SPS have their best games for the year when Kennedy is back in the team. Allows them to play more on the outside instead of having their smaller bodies beaten up in the packs.

Make no mistake, having Kennedy become a best 22 staple is a very important piece of the puzzle

You can add cripps to that list, I see his 3 goals are by virtue of not having to be at every ball up

I disagree that it's a fair way.

Once we get him more frequency of incoming ball, he will be the equal of or better than #43. Kouta took 5 years to get his motor running, was never doing was Charlie is doing at year 3

Lets's just wait til Charlie can pick the ball up one handed and side step 3 players, then he's in Kouta territory.:)
