Bakes is a deadset star, but there's also a plethora of running small backs across the league. We've got Houli, Short and Baker, and Vlastuin would be competing with them for AA recognition as well, even though he plays a different role. Then you have Brodie Smith, Laird, Docherty, Kade Simpson, Petrevski-Seton, Maynard, Crisp, Saad, Salem, Byrne-Jones, Hurn, Sheppard, Whitfield, Z.Williams, JJ, Daniel, Crozier, Lloyd, Bailey Williams (first break-out year and overshadowed by JJ and Daniel but killing it), Harbrow (the most underappreciated player in the role), Bowes and others. Lachie Weller kills it when he plays there. Any of those blokes could step into Shorty's role and we'd either gain, or lose nothing.
Short getting an AA gong would be equivalent to Suckling getting one when the Hawks were dominant. But to repeat, I'm ok with him as long as he goes when it's his turn, and is defensively accountable (watch the behind goals vision of Port's first goal of the last quarter against us - Short goes one way, Butters goes the other and they get the easiest of goals. Short spent the next 10 minutes or more on the bench.).
