This was a very mature win. The contributions across the entire team demonstrated that’s there is more to this group than how we like to perceive ourselves. It’s a trait of good teams that when one player goes down then another in the group steps up.

What was pleasing about today’s game is how we replaced the guys who didn’t play (including Charlie).

Cripps missing required a major rework. We needed his influence around the ball. We needed his influence around the ground. With some luck his ability to kick some goals. Ed stepped up winning contested footy. Murph pitched in with plenty of possessions. Jack took on the responsibility of laying plenty of tackles. And then came the goals. Kennedy 2, Dow 1, Jack 1, Samo 1 and Murph 1. Now I rate Crippa but I think he would have fallen short of this collective effort.

If it wasn’t bad enough when Harry and Dave came up short for this game. The forward line suffers further when Charlie’s knee bends the wrong way. This was a huge challenge as you can’t plan for this. It threw us for the first quarter and it was not surprising to be five goals down. However the coaches put their collective heads together and come up with a left field solution. Kennedy and Dow as the deep forwards. Freo couldn’t cope with it. They managed 3 goals between them and some score assists. We kicked 11.10 to 5.7 after we sorted things out and our forward looked dangerous. It may not work next week but it was a stroke of genius today. Also Dow and Kennedy might break the shackles about their roles in the team which can amount to more than just ‘helping out Crippa’.

The back line was rock solid today and that’s been the case when they are given half a chance. The applied and implied pressure all over the ground allowed them to win plenty of important contests. Every defender snuck in for an intercept mark and that’s how you make your opponents second guess their choices.

Every player had an influence on today’s result. Even Charlie with his behind in the first quarter. Without it we would have only won by 3 points.

someone called murph looking "on" very early in the game..............get around him.........
You know it would be fun being admin for a day

You you and you, Ping Ping Ping

Oh boy.
I love you Carlton.
Teague is a smart man.
He made a lot of changes through the match and that is the difference.
Dont change the style just move the pieces around the board looking for that tiny advantage.

I liked that he had Ed on Fyfe from the start, but when that didn't work out sent JSOS to him who did a good job, and let Ed hunt the ball and he finished with a ridiculous 16 clearances.

Teague is showing good tactical and match day nous.

I actually don't think that Jack needs to tag in the midfield either. Just find the right match up (strong, not overly quick) and let him go head to head. Can spell with Matt Kennedy up forward as well.
Bit sorta josh kennedy esque ?

His ability to get a quick response from the team after a poor start has been impressive. His poor starts however...

Love it, can't criticise someone for butchering the ball all day. He was shocking today every time he got the pill.

Been fantastic all year but today was a shocker. But not allowed to say a bad word otherwise people will get upset. Laughable.

Oh stop being so grumpy frumpy. Find me another first year player with the ability Sam has to accumulate. How did Andrew Brayshaw go today? Wait he's a second year player... If it was easy to notch up 30 garbage disposals then everyone would do it.

Yes, Sam's disposal was off today. He still busted a gut in a famous win. Enjoy it for #### sake!

I'm not even shocked to be sitting here ..that was amazing and a good reminder why I love our great club ..

One of the best things about the win came after the win.

In post-game interviews both Ed Curnow and David Teague were asked questions something like 'Can you actually believe you won given the players missing and being 5 goals down at quarter time?' and both answered with an immediate 'I can' and touched on the reasons why we knew we could still win.

Teague has truly got the guys believing in themselves and his positive attitude has clearly filtered throughout the playing group. Great to see.

Sorry BB, but this is a shallow post imo. Jsos was a large part of the reason we were even close enough to challenge. Watch for his efforts throughout the game, and especially in the 2nd half on the AFL's 2nd best player.

He was bloody amazing today .... I know what he did ... took Fyfe right out of the game! Wonderful .... I only have praise for him!

But when he was lining up for that goal all I could think about was a number of clutch goals in the past he needed to slot and he didn’t.

That goal and that win did wonders for the belief of the team and for Jack.. that’s all I’m saying.

Murph, Ed, Sammy, Kreuz, Jsos, Sps getting all the credit, deservedly so, but what about our defence who stood up under great pressure today. Newman, Marchy, Plow, Jones, Simmo etc. Geeze the adrenaline was flowing those last few minutes. Thought we'd lost it, but they wouldn't lie down. !they're playing for Teague IMO. Great game today fellas.:D:thumbsu::crystalball::flagstick:

Our backline kept us in this game today
That 2nd quarter was where we won the game back and jones marchy weiters just kept holding the wall up and pumped entry after entry.

SPS that's exactly what you need to do every week and opposition teams will start tagging you.

Sos congratulations you just found your role and you're now in the best 22 for #17

Newman good run all day and just kept getting it forward

Marchbank is getting better every week. I'm comfortable when he's frees up to float nothing gets passed him.

Walsh had a strange day. Got a tonne of it didn't use it well most of the time but looked to drift forward a fair bit as well either from injury or tiredness from leather poisoning.

Kreuzer somehow won a 4 on 1 him vs Darcy and 3 umpires.

Commentators scoffed at LOB for not giving enough respect to Hill. Hill was not sighted after.

Murphy I love you.

Apologies BB, I misunderstood your post. I agree, it may well have been Jacks best game of his career, for multiple reasons. I said elsewhere he is not like his Dad, he is like his Grandad. He is not polish, he is grunt. Don't judge the grunts too hard for not having polish.

It looked to me like he and Bam Bam were changing ruck rovers today (old fashioned concept, I know, but it may be a good time to bring it back) they changed from FP to on ball for the first half, then JSOS was given a job on Fyfe after half time.

Out this week. Casboult Murphy Plowman.....................

Oh wait....... they starred.......and we won. YES :p

Excellent summary.

I lolled at the 4 on one quip

Yep, he shows a good willingness to keep tinkering with things until they work, whereas Bolton (from the outside at least) appeared to stubbornly persist with things that weren't working in the hope they'd turn around by themselves.

It's been a key ingredient in our big comebacks the last three weeks.

Now God help the team that we don't give a 5 goal head start to!!
