J Reid re-shuffling his 2019 draft picks

Dow did some smart things up fwd (minus his big error).I'm liking him fwd,got some real smarts. Even the tap back into play to Levi in the goal square, just clever.

His kicking was a lot better, bit of work over the bye I'm tipping.

I too thought he was very good as a half forward. His aerial ability has come on considerably, is quite strong overhead.

Just needs to get more of it at the moment.

Not a regular contributor but was at the game today. Even if Murph hadn't kicked the winning goal it was an absolute ripping game.
But as this is my first post in a while will give others my perspective (which may change once I have watched the replay):

Murph - Can be no doubts about him ever again. Blue to the core and should be allowed to finish (whenever that is) on his terms. Game winner and BOG.
Ed - Not far behind and with a top ten in all time clearances to boot. Let off the leash and look at the dividends.
Jack - Twelve months is a long time. Struggled to stick tackles twelve months ago. Today bringing Fyfe to the ground regularly. Fyfe continued to influence and a few times noticeable that Jack still needs to improve his tank to be elite. If so what a player he could be given his forward smarts.
Lachie P - Super game. Shut down Sonny's influence and provided great rebound. Should never be any doubt as to when he can deliver at his best.
Kreuz - Absolutely awesome game. His stoppage work was sensational and set up many of the opportunities for Ed and co.
Sam - Really keen to watch him in action today. This guy is blue collar. Works and works with the occasional flash of brilliance. Can't wait to see the regular flashes of brilliance.
Will - For mine very underrated and played a big role in transitioning the play today. Incredibly hard worker who will only get better.
LOB - Reckon we have a beauty here. Not sure I want him to bulk up too much. Seems very agile on his feet and good evasive skills. Love the mongrel too! Hope he can develop his right side.
Caleb - Sound, reliable. Reads the play well and very much reliant on knowing what's going on around him to play his best football. Loved his game today.
Levi - What a difference it makes when people have confidence in your ability to contribute. Did all the things we know him for and then some (leading to the winning goal).
SPS - Flashy but when he gets involved really turns it on. Has elite skills. Critical with his ball use in the last quarter.
Paddy - Did a couple of nice things but we also saw what happens when he hesitates. First time I had seen him live and I was sufficiently impressed to see why we chose him. Another pre-season and he will be ready to perform consistently at a high level. Am becoming a big fan.
Jacob - Wow. Cool, calm collected, sure. Can look a bit awkward when the ball comes to ground but always plays the percentages.
Liam - Fearless. After a long lay off just threw himself into contests without regard for the consequences. Love the attitude.
MK - We may have found his role today. Invaluable couple of goals but able to pinch hit through the middle with JSOS (and others). Not quick but you can't doubt where his heart is.
Kade - My favourite player and has been for some time. Epitomises the Carlton spirit and will rightly be a club legend. Cool as a cucumber to nail the LQ goal.
Zac -A hard running link man with the ability to win his own footy at stoppages. Reckon he can also have an impact as a high half forward. Work rate is undeniable.
Nic - I know people have caned him for turnovers but he is pretty cool in high pressure situations. Spreads well and provides a great option out of the back half. For mine a great pick up by the club who has really slotted in well.
Dale - Last and this year having his best two seasons. Would be interesting to know at the end of his career where his greatest passion lies. His passion for this club is undeniable and probably for quite different reasons to the time at the Magpies. The goal celebration said it all for me.
Michael - This guy is a footballer. He has poise and skill. Had a role to play today and play it well although not having a huge influence on the game.
Charlie - Was looking for a big one after his last game. Hope he recovers well but he will definitely repay the club over and over into the future.
Mitch - On the face of it not a big influence but he attracts attention which means others are more free to have an influence. What is clear is we need some more crumbers to feed off his contests.

The main issue today (and it was the same for both clubs) was finding a way to transition the ball out effectively of defence when the opposition was having repeat entries into their forward 50. This will take time to get a handle on but when you can see which players are going to play a major role into the future in setting up those one on one forward contests and "out the back" goals.

Plenty of positives today and I reckon plenty to come.

This was a very mature win. The contributions across the entire team demonstrated that’s there is more to this group than how we like to perceive ourselves. It’s a trait of good teams that when one player goes down then another in the group steps up.

What was pleasing about today’s game is how we replaced the guys who didn’t play (including Charlie).

Cripps missing required a major rework. We needed his influence around the ball. We needed his influence around the ground. With some luck his ability to kick some goals. Ed stepped up winning contested footy. Murph pitched in with plenty of possessions. Jack took on the responsibility of laying plenty of tackles. And then came the goals. Kennedy 2, Dow 1, Jack 1, Samo 1 and Murph 1. Now I rate Crippa but I think he would have fallen short of this collective effort.

If it wasn’t bad enough when Harry and Dave came up short for this game. The forward line suffers further when Charlie’s knee bends the wrong way. This was a huge challenge as you can’t plan for this. It threw us for the first quarter and it was not surprising to be five goals down. However the coaches put their collective heads together and come up with a left field solution. Kennedy and Dow as the deep forwards. Freo couldn’t cope with it. They managed 3 goals between them and some score assists. We kicked 11.10 to 5.7 after we sorted things out and our forward looked dangerous. It may not work next week but it was a stroke of genius today. Also Dow and Kennedy might break the shackles about their roles in the team which can amount to more than just ‘helping out Crippa’.

The back line was rock solid today and that’s been the case when they are given half a chance. The applied and implied pressure all over the ground allowed them to win plenty of important contests. Every defender snuck in for an intercept mark and that’s how you make your opponents second guess their choices.

Every player had an influence on today’s result. Even Charlie with his behind in the first quarter. Without it we would have only won by 3 points.
Think the difference since Teaguey has taken over has been one noticeable decision to not allow underdeveloped kids like Dow and Fisher in particular against much bigger bodies in the midfield for far to long at a time, managing to play them a little more outside is a much better for their development...
