Autopsy Rd 21 - Blues go home at half time. Get blitzed in the second half

Seriously how many times can people ask why we didn’t recruit older midfielders last trade period.

Last year the only good ones available without selling the farm seemed to be Devon Smith & Rockliff and we went after both of them. It is pretty obvious it is hard to get good players in their mid 20’s to come to a bottom 4 club so maybe we could ease up on the same complaints each week.
Tom Wilson would have been better than oshea

Brennen Cox.

He was on the list Foxtel showed us yesterday, as one of the top 5 U23 KPF by goals a game average. He was 5th.

Think he kicked a few yesterday as well.
Cox kicked 2.3 yesterday & he looks like a very handy forward. Is more of a stay at home forward than what Charlie is, as reflected by his numbers when compared to Charlie. Of course he is a year younger than Charlie & was a 2nd round draft pick. Charlie's numbers from last year (when he was the same age as Cox), except for average goals, are still superior.

Would be a bit easier to defend against given he doesn't get on his bike as often as Charlie, but it looks like if he gets one on one opportunities, he will be a headache for defenders.

At the risk of sounding like a Murphy basher he let the team down in the last quarter.

I watched the last qtr again and we had decent momentum. But his first three kicks in the midfield going forward were all errant and created turnovers. His gut running and handballs were fantastic (and a nice pass to CC for a goal at the end), but the turnovers stalled any momentum we had. We need to be better by foot.

Really rated the kid in his draft year, in fact slightly ahead of Fisher (glad we have him)

The thing with Cox, is he has great touch, due to his basketball background and can also play as a KPD.

Think he will be a beauty

Spot on VJ.

Free Agency is seriously biased towards top 8 clubs - no decent player wants to come to a bottom 4 club and get flogged most weeks.

Really like how SPS is growing as a player, hopefully he has a solid pre season and continue his improvement.

Really like big Harry’s progress the last month, hopefully he keeps it up.

Love DOWS progression.

LOB is slowly building but has to work on his composure.

Byrne did some good things, if he can get through the rest of the season unscathed he should go in to pre season with confidence.

I have concerns with Polson and wished we could bring in an untried kid for the last 2 games, Polson hopefully can go back to NB and string together some high possession games like he did last season before his injury.

Our coaching staff need to find a way to get the ball in Pickett’s hands more, we can’t carry a player who rarely gets over 10 possession unless they kick goals, Pickett and Polson do neither.

We had a bad 3rd quarter but lots of positives.

I was at the game and it seems to me we are still stuck between game plans.

We want to move the ball quickly and get it in to Charlie and Big H as soon as possible. We also press up very high but seem to be wary if we turn it over we could get caught out and within a few kicks the ball has gone from our forward line to theirs and I felt sorry for Jack Silvagni because he was left as the last man a few times and it is very hard to defend 1 on 1 in the 50 with no help around.

We seem to get caught in two minds of whether to move the ball quickly and take a risk or slow it down and take a safe option but get caught somewhere in the middle and ultimately turn it over.

In saying that we had some good passages and you add a but more polish in the midfield we will start to become dangerous.

Also felt sorry for Charlie who seems to be playing sore but was not helped with the umpiring as Pearce seemed to push him in to every contest or hold a arm and very rarely did it get picked up.

That Jumper was an absolute disgrace...

I’d like to paste Jeff Kennett’s thoughts on our own clash jumper this year.

“On a different matter. Many of you will remember seeing Hawthorn play in what looked like a white jumper as our away outfit. Never again. White is the colour of surrender and at Hawthorn we never surrender. We might get beaten but we fight every match out to the final siren. That strip has been consigned to the waste paper bin forever.

Let’s face it brown and gold does not conflict with any other colours, so we will wear it proudly every game but one.”

you guys might want to let Real Madrid know of Jeff's ground breaking research into sportschrome, they may be wondering why they don't win anything ... is there an AFL club more full of chest thumping BS than Hawthorn?

but yes, Freo was allowed to essentially copy our jumper and agree with those who say they should be made to wear their original design
