Autopsy Rd 21: Freo go down in a close one

As long as the club gets the same money or better it doesn't matter. If the club had to take a financial hit for it then it's a problem.

Well if we're not going to stand behind our sponsors then that's not a good sales pitch for an awful lot of large companies that are prospective sponsors in the future. Especially in a place like WA where a lot of them are in the mining sector.

If it's true we've dumped Woodside, then if i'm running a company i'm going to be very reluctant to get involved with Freo in the future.

From what I've seen SPEEDWAGON is a reactionary alias that doesn't do any genuine footy/Freo posts. Their posts are always agitating on the same hot topics, seemingly looking to generate heat and fan the flames or light the sparks.

They could easily be doing the same thing across any number of other footy fan sites under different aliases. It's classic shill/bot behaviour.

Before that goal he’d lost 2x one on one contests to Payne in the 4th quarter. Neither kick hugely to his advantage but he could have done more to bring it to ground.

In saying that, he’s come a long long way. I think he’s cemented himself in my best 22.

He’s playing better than Walters the past month.

Payne is a monster. He is 197cm and 105kg and ideally we would have Andrews and Payne needing to play on 2 genuine KPF targets. This was achievable with Jackson, Darcy, Amiss, Treacy in the same team. Now it would be from bringing in Taberner for Corbett. JL tends to have talls on the bench at all times, and often one of Treacy and Amiss were on the bench. So Corbett gets covered by Lester and Sturt by Payne. Instead of forcing Payne to a proper tall and leaving Sturt to compete with Lester.

You’d only think like that if you were running a company like Woodside. Everyone else is reading the room

the thing is fremantle believe that their members will like this move. on some level this is true. but, these are the same members who drive to work using a fossil fuel car. we are all hypocrites and know this.

You are all way too generous on Jaeger O'Meara. I almost think their is some level of pig headed arrogance about continuing to play him in that the recruiters dont want to admit they were wrong or made a bad choice

In any case , Matt Johnson is miles ahead of O'Meara and is the better choice to start surely

If we are basing it on form rather than potential or forward thinking, MJ is not miles ahead of o'meara. MJ was actually down on form last few games before being managed. O'Meara hasn't been setting the world on fire but he was playing better than mj

Young is a superstar, but needs to build his tank. He was cooked from halfway through the 3rd quarter. We lost ascendancy in the midfield when he needed more time on the bench. One preseason and he’s starting mid for me. He’s genuinely strong, contested beast, difficult to shift, and tackles / crumples opposing mids. We’ve missed Mundy all year for his strength in the contest. JOM has been a massive disappointment who I think ends up outside our 22 by next season. When he went into the midfield as Young gassed out, Brisbane started to get going.

Key defender is now a critical weakness. Alex Pearce is so hot and cold. One week 10 coaches votes, the next dropping uncontested marks (sun in his eyes?) 10m out from goal. Cox is not much better, completely misread a ball and allowed Ah Chee an uncontested mark. Cox is very reliant on a solid preseason. Perhaps he’ll mature this off-season. It still blows my mind a 24 year old skateboards, and obviously not that well, because he injured himself.

Switta / JOM / Walters / Aish are starting to play themselves out of the 22. At their age and experience to turn up 1 in 4 games is unacceptable.

Trajectory of Sturt, Henry, Erasmus is encouraging. Johnson has stagnated, needs a preseason. Johnson started the year amazingly well and I think the long season has caught up with him.

Looking forward to 2024.

You know I've always thought there were bot accounts running through here every now and again. Becomes very obvious around trade time where some random accounts pop up to talk positively about Colin Young moving out some of our players.

Being a sub leads to bad form. It really is a specialist position in that some players can play that role and others cant I think

MJ is the forward thinking option whose best has been better then O'Mearas best. MJ also provides a bit more pace around the ball which is needed when Brayshaw is around. O'Meara plodding around on the outskirts of the contest and moving around like a slug is helping no one. Most of the time O'Meara drags his opponent to the ball and then isnt a outlet for a handball either since most of the time he is stationary and watching the contest. He is a absolute coach killer at present.

Drop him and the midfield instantly improves for the fact you can replace him with a option to receive the outlet handball/someone who can provide some run

I was wrong about Young moving into the midfield, didn’t think his game translated as well but he’s a breath of fresh of air in the their, particularly how strong over the ball he is.

Does make me very upset Chapman has the injury issues he has, I’m convinced one of these two would have been in there much earlier if he was healthy and I’ll stick with thinking Chappy has potential to be even better than Young in there

By next year I expect this to be the case (Johnson miles ahead of omeara) but even if it’s not the case I’m just stoked we got MJ in the sheds regardless, I mean it could be a lot worse - we could’ve drafted Campbell chesser over Johnson !!

Well in one of those contests the ball did hit the ground as it were (although Sturt was thinking the next step ahead instead of fully securing the ball first which allowed Payne to get the speculative lookaway hand in) and Sturt then recovered to apply the tackle on Payne, bring him to ground and significantly disrupt his disposal.

Sturt then kept going and went after the next contest, not quite able to get in position to apply an effective tackle on McKenna, but put him under pressure.

yeah was pretty happy with sturts pressure, tho not sure if that would translate on to an opponent with a bit more zip than payne, but still liked what i saw. took his chances well too, just needs to be involved in a bit more open play as hes usually a good user of the footy.

LOL. Really!? You'll have to point them out to me.

We need a balance of experience and youth in the midfield though. We missed that with Mundy gone. Someone who can coach the midfielders onfield. Not saying that JOM did that well but our options for healthy, effective players in that age bracket are limited.

This trade period Freo should be trying to add some more experience to the team. Ones that aren’t s**t. We need it in the midfield especially. Maybe that’s a Gresham, Yeo or Matt Crouch. Dunno

For what it's worth King Tenz and arsesmart basically every single new accounts first post is approved by me and I cant say I remember too many cases where I've thought it could possibly be a bot or shill. You will get more accounts with little posts around trade time because trade time gets the most interaction from people rather than the weekly grind of games

It would also embolden activists to put on a scarf and claim memberships they don't have any time a company needs social pressure for an issue they care about, using the social value of the club to whack them with.

Lol, most large companies do something that somebody finds morally objectionable. Who knows what the current thing will be in a few years. Excess sugar? Unhealthy foods?

We shouldn't be jumping on a bandwagon.

Thanks SPEEDWAGON for steering us delightfully close to politics off of news that hasnt even happened yet. If that announcement actually happens then we can relax the no politics rule SLIGHTLY in that specific thread. Until then, we'll move on
