Stood out or not, they were there. His decision making and execution were abysmal at times. He had a shocker but it's OK, he's shown enough this season to prove that today was an anomaly.

He didn't have a shocker. Still did a lot of trademark Robbo things and linked up very well.
He will be grilled over his second quarter on Monday, though.

*edit ..just noticed your post on the shockers board regarding Betts ..lets just say if Ballantyne (frodo) was half the player Eddie was then you might actually score some goals and win enough games to make the eight .
You have the nerve to bag him out on your board and then come here and put him in the votes ...idiot much ???

I think you're basing that on the quote I 'agreed with' (which I did on my own board and with out much discretion i.e I wouldn't use those terms). The point I was trying to make even there is that I don't think Betts was the BOG despite 6 goals. He was a good player obviously (as I said there too), but IMHO he was the end of some great (better) work around him and up the field. He still has to put them through the sticks etc, but he wasn't BOG as ABC called it - it's just MHO.

Keep in mind it was the Freo board, as you've just done yourself ("shockers", making a dig at missing the 8), there is a certain licence on your own board to be 'indiscreet' as it were. Chill out, I genuinely meant what I said in my votes.

FWIW.

He did have a shocker. He was back to the old Robbo for the first half, cost us what should have been 2 certain goals. He did work back into it in the last quarter, but that was probably his worst game for the year.

I'm surprised at the lack of votes for Simmo. Thought he really challenged Judd for BOG.

How many of his 29 possessions were shockers? Count them.
Do also count how many times he threw himself into packs just to have the ball pushed out.
Don't forget to count as to how many times his pressure resulted in a Fremantle turnover.

He was undisciplined in the second quarter but that was not his worst game of the year.
Maybe we expect too much. Can't be a bad thing.

5. Judd (Just too good)
4. Gibbs (Not too far behind at all and played angry today. Love it.)
3. Yarran (Not as many kicks as the others, but the effect was terrific)
2. Murphy (Just a standard game these days)
1. Robinson (If it wasn't for the commentators being so critical, his errors wouldn't have stood out as much, although he really should have handballed to Murphy for the goal)

I don't really appreciate the inference here Harks. I was watching the game with a mate who has foxtel and was critical of Robbo before the commentators jumped on him. I was literally screaming at him to give the ball to Murph during the live action. And then I was telling my mate to watch for the replay (which took ages before they showed an angle that showed Murph running into the goal square).

I pay hardly any attention to commentators because I get sick of them egging on our opponents in almost every Carlton game.

In the second quarter, this game was looking a little like the docklands game last year all over again and Robbo had a couple of chances to create certain goals for the team. I agree it wasn't his worst game for the club, but it was a fair way from his best too.

I think there were plenty who deserved votes before him today, but you call it how you see it I guess.

Not gonna vote but shit Yarran stood out to me as a dynamo, he's a jet. What deficiencies does he have?

The aforementioned bouncing, occasionally is criticized for not going hard enough and he's still learning defensively but otherwise there isn't much he lacks. Just speed, power and silk in one.

Don't take it personally OBF.
I just thought that many would have painted him as a villian for three mistakes in the second and forgot about the rest of the match.

Judd got pinged for holding the ball on 2 occassions, Gibbs turned it over directly to an opponent on 2 occassions along with a poor grubbing kick into the forward 50, Davies opponent slipped through a couple of easy tackles etc.
Robbo was in the game for the full four quarters unlike Joseph, Scotland and Armfield.

I should really have put Walker or Betts ahead of him in the votes, but just wanted to be a little cheeky. ;)

He's too slow. Luckily he's having extra training sessions with our resident speed coach Brock McLean.

but I do think those 3 were instrumental in the critical 1st and 2nd qtrs and really helped set up a win in a game that was pretty much over by early in the 3rd. The hard nuts of Mitch Ellard AJ Army and Heath don't get the credit they deserve for taking the best shot of the opposition and allowing the glamour boys to Hollywood up the game

I agree with Harks here. Just because Robbo used to be a serial offender when it comes to making mistakes, his errors are highlighted/ focused upon much more. However, the 'household' names such as the aforementioned make mistakes and they are labelled 'uncharacteristic mistakes'.

The fact is, Robbo had that one error where he refused to handball to Murph and he'll cop a spray for that during the review process - as he rightfully should. However that one instance should not be the main moment we remember from his game. Yes, he had 5 clangers for the day (the most in our team). But he still racked up 29 disposals with a DE of 72%, and that's hardly a 'schocker'.

Another way to look at it, the fact that Robbo's game was considered a 'shocker' is a testament to how much his skills have developed over the year.

Re: Robbo, it wasn't just the clangers. He consistently tried to do to much and failed to make the right decisions. In the first half he very much played like he used to before this year.
He was much better in the second half, but a long way off the votes.

Have just watched the replay, well done boys, good effort all round :thumbsu:

5. Juddy.
4. Betts
3. Gibbs
2. Murph
1. Simpson

Special mention to Gibbs who is finally starting to take it to another level. This is what I've wanted :thumbsu:

been really impressed with the courage of our boys lately as well. their hunger for the ball yesterday was sensational.
