Autopsy Rd 3 v Essendon. Blues win by 15

If you think White doesn't know exactly where we're at as a club, and how he fits into that, then you're dreaming. He gets games as long as we need him getting games. And he could bust his arse every game and still find himself in the VFL while he's still got something to offer because our rejuvenation hinges on getting our quality young kids into the side as soon as they're ready, and developing them properly at AFL level.

We need to balance rewarding endeavour with developing for the future. It's a fine line, and I understand that people will fall on the other side of it - I'm just not sure why all these people are jumping to Whitey's defence when he's not being panned, we're just taking a longer view.

What is obvious at training is that the talent and enthusiasm of the younger players is making the senior players really step up. The standard at training his improved drastically, especially the skills. Murphy at Saturday training was elite, really stood out. No accident that guys like White Rowe Murphy Gibbs Kruezer Curnow Wright are playing very good if not their best football. You can't beat depth and having players fighting for spots. Nothing but positives

I knew Curnow has to do the run with roles but does he also have to carry the drinks?

Well done to the boys for a hard fought win.
Only seen the highlights and will have to wait until I'm back in the country to see the full game.
Love that the kids are contributing and some of the old fellows are playing well.

Suspect it will be a different game at Etihad - hope the coach and selection committee pick for the conditions and play a few of the more skillful kids over some mentioned earlier.

Might be a few losses this year but any win over the scum is worth celebrating.

Carn the Blues!

Always has and always will.

Its why clubs should always be going to the draft and bringing in a couple of newbies, their approach is infectious and certainly puts the older guys on notice too.

Great pic - SPS is a gem!!! Not that I have to tell any of you that.

Did anyone notice the lead up to his goal on sunday?
He cleared the ball out from half back/wing...he put the burners on up to the forward line after a couple of players had handled it he was right there for the receive and shot on goal - all class!
This kid will provide countless highlights for years to come - so much to look forward too!

Outstanding win in really difficult conditions. There is no doubt this young group will take an enormous amount from that performance.

Just a terrific team effort with probably only one or two real disappointments on the day. Most pleasing was the performance of our younger players - all showed terrific signs throughout the afternoon.

In his interview after the game, SOSOS mentioned the younger players had been given the responsibility of energizing & driving the standards of the club. I still maintain these kids will have to be managed throughout the year - and a balance of youth & experience must be maintained - but the signs coming from their performances are incredibly encouraging.

Couple the performance of the youngsters with some really strong games from various members of the older brigade - Murphy, Rowe & White in particular - and it was a really sound all-round performance from the group. Just one game, but a really big step in the right direction for this football club.

Lastly I couldn't help but notice the sheer volume of Essendon supporters blaming the weather for their loss. Strikes me as very odd - they must have forgotten they were up against a side who have largely been worse than ordinary - in all conditions - over the past couple of years.

It is funny that they think their uncontested style of footy will stand up in September (if they ever make it that far). The footy gets harder and I saw enough short steppers to be confident they would get found out in a big Richmond type way.

If I had to take a guess, I reckon that would be Bolton's influence.

Most clubs would probably have a staffer pack the gear up, but I reckon BB's whole-club approach would focus on the players supporting the staff as much as the other way around.

I like it.

Making excuses and its only round 3?

Im a believer that not always the better team wins, only the better team on the day wins.

They can blame every factor they want, but the fact is that Carlton defeated Essendon. We were the better team on the weekend, im under no disillusions that Essendon are a better and more skillful team and that should reflect on the ladder at the seasons end. But we were, and always will be, the better team on that day :)

If that's actually what occurred, then that's excellent.

Lol. Sam looking like a Bond. Witts like the Villain.
Last Sunday was Skyfall. Coming soon..One Win is Not Enough.

I've noticed both White and Rowe get around Macreadie and Marchbank as often as possible as well. If they do something that helps us like blocking the run of play they'll give them a pat on the back and a bit of verbal encouragement. It's probably a coaching directive as well, but it's really helping to settle the kids into the team. All the young guys know the senior players are looking after them and want them to succeed.

The more input they give, the quicker these young kids learn and develop.

This year is invaluable with White & Rowe passing on their knowledge to Macreadie, Marchbank & Plowman and basically being on-field coaches.

Yes we get frustrated at White & Rowe sometimes due to their simple skill errors, but their footy IQ in terms of positioning behind the ball, how to spoil in a marking contest etc is A grade. If they had better foot skills they'd be dam good players.

Just helping the kids settle in and preparing them to take over the mantle for next year and beyond.
