My two cents -

Obviously Garner out with hammy. but probably didnt do enough to keep his spot anyway. In - Wood

Out - Lindsay. Lindsay is easily top 10 player in our team. But at the moment his confidence is shot and it is counteproductive to leave him in the side. He has historically always lit up the VFL when omitted, and id expect him to find touch and confidence and return as the player we know and love. In - Turner/Nahas

Out - Spitta. He clearly is lacking match fitness and touch and is a liability at the moment. Let him find it in the VFL and give someone else an opportunity. Ideally Clarke or Mountford. But more likely Dumont

On thin ice: Atley and Wright... need to improve considerably. Otherwise Mullet to come in for one.

Also Jacobs - if he doesnt tag, he shouldnt play. Simple dis.

We aren't going to drop our captain...

On Dal playing HB, defence is not exactly his strong suit, nor is his run. Laughable.

I think even though we did win and are 3-0, it is clear that we need a different mix in the middle as plan A, Anderson, is gone. Bringing in a quicker player or two to change the mix is essential. The Dees basically smashed us yesterday in the middle, we didn't have much to go back with. We need to change that.

Doubt Scott will make changes to a winning outfit, albeit a terrible performance.

However if I were selecting I would;
Out;
Garner (omit/injured)
Thomas (omit)
Atley (omit)

In;
Wood for Thomas
Nahas for Garner
Mullett for Atley

Wright lucky as he had an absolute howler.
Jacobs to tag or he shouldn't play.
NDS is extremely lazy but we need his skill level.
Thommo has declined so much its frightening.
Swallow looks shot but i'll stick with him to bounce back.

Some people have the memory of stoned goldfish.. we've won 12 our of our last 14 games. Not the sort of run that justifies changes
I know its frustrating having talented youngsters in reserve, but the reality is that the current side is getting the job done..so its a case of them waiting their turn

ps Don't want sound like a broken record, but I get frustrated where we've had a win, but its drowned in negativity

I have large doubts we'd be dropping Atley for Mullet based on Mullett's VFL output.

If we're going to play an underperforming player in the 1s hows about we play the more talented one.

Edit if we were going to drop Atley (doubtful) we'd surely be bringing in McKenzie who actually had a decent game in the VFL.

If we dropped Ately and brought in Mullett it would make an absolute farce of the idea that we are going to play people on Merit.

Garner is in the side as much for his manic defensive pressure as his offensive side, so in that regard it has to be Sugar in for him (if Sugar fit)

The captain is struggling with fitness at the moment but he's such a beast in the clinches, and I expect Freo to go back to Ross Lyon Plan A (aka the only plan ever to vaguely work for Ross) that we'll need him even if he can barely run.

I don't think it is going to be a game for running and gunning from the skip.

You'd think we were 0 n 3 .....

This thread isn't even worth reading post-match. So much overreaction. 90% of our team had a down day.

Single change - Wood in for Garner.

yep classic case of getting a lead up early against a side they're heavily favoured to beat, and then putting the tools down. Luckily late in the 3rd and then the 4th the experienced guys rectified it

Melbourne look to me like they're getting a pretty decent side together too

It's gotta be Robbie surely? He can do the harrass and tackle stuff, has always played his role when playing and had a great game in the VFL. Sugar has played 1 practice match in a month.

Watching Spits find fitness in the 1s is gonna be painful. I have little doubt that he is going to get back to being a beast it's just gonna take some time.

I think that their form and injury list it is very easier to look at and say we will roll them. Lyon's had Brads cheat codes and has a "wounded lion" of a team at the moment. being 0-3 ain't a holiday and they are going to come out to show just how much they hate it.

Reality is that the next 3 weeks will show us where we are really at.

- older team with a lot of pride on the line
- young team with a heap of talent
- buzz team of the league

I think we have set ourselves for these three weeks.

Melbourne just wanted it more after 1/4 time. Our mids (with the exception of JZ) were absolutely woeful. Not many games you lose the clearances by 17 (46 - 63) and contested possession by 32 (144 - 176) and still win.

The only advantage we had in the middle was JZ's tackling.

Now if he could do half that much every 8 out of 10 games minimum.

Out

Swallow
Garner
Thomas

In

Dumont (a mid that can win enough football as a mid would be a welcome change)
Nahas (obvious replacement for Garner)
Wood (you have to reward 36 touches and 3 goals, on the back of waht Scott said was a very good pre season)

Question to the Swallow droppers.

Are you guys going to be the ones to cripple him if he isn't injured? One thing I noticed is that the coach is stubborn. Super stubborn. Swallow would only get dropped if he can't walk.

To the detriment of the team balance maybe. But an established selection policy people shouldn't ignore.

CBF'd counting wins, but we lost PF, and Rd's 22 and 23, yes?

Firstly, a vent. Brad is persistent and tenacious, not stubborn. I'm a Taurus too, and like Scott and Harvey, the willingness to keep on keeping on with what works is a strength, not a weakness. I've been saying this over and over again for years now and I'll keep saying it.

Secondly, we've got the usual reactiveness that comes after a loss. Oh wait, what... we didn't lose? Okay, but before you "We're 3-zip, /end of" crowd applaud, you're being just as, if not more, reactive if you see it as simple as only chalking up wins. To be sure, we've got the job done and the older heads have made a big difference here. (Except Lindsay's, and his is the oldest there is.) But to discount the views of those suggesting that the wins may be papering over some cracks is naive imho. Our wins have showed a certain maturity, even grit, but that's not to say we couldn't be playing better and will need to in the coming weeks. Brad has acknowledged this in his pre- and post-game press conferences where he acknowledged our form wasn't "something to do with lights" and "good teams win when they play badly." ie He knows we're not playing well and he's not banging the 3-zip drum.

Yes, it's April and yes there's a long way to go. But it doesn't mean a few strategic selection choices may not help the team, and both for the individual players who get omitted/rested, and for those who get their chance. The suspects have been named and do need to be brought in for questioning. Some might be released, some put in the slammer overnight to think about what they've done or not done, and some might need to go in for a 'nap'. All those out of form are capable of rediscovering it. Whether we can afford to have all these criminals on the street, however, is the question.

So, yeah, Brad don't be so persistent man.

Mullett was good in the pre-season - better than Atley.

I wasn't aware of his poor game this weekend so yes that may hurt his chances.
