Much better performance but still not entirely polished. Some of our players seemed to find their form a bit today. Harry O was back at his best and I think when our side settles will be the style of player that will suit the changes to our gameplan. Keeffe was as solid as a rock in defense and is growing in confidence each week. I was particularly pleased with how confortable he is one out under a high ball. Wellingham looked a natural forward and I think we will see him used up there more often this year. A great lead, leap and mark. I still think Swan, despite playing better, is a little fumbly and out of form. I felt we overplayed the ball at times and failed to prevent Ports spread. They were great at running hard and creating options out wide. It would have been nice to put them away earlier but its important to remember how young and inexperienced this side is and perhaps its unreasonable to expect that.

Getting this off my chest

Hate on Sinclair all you want, but he set the tone early when he took the bigs and sharked our first.

He's quick, hard and a good tackler, Even his disposal was better today. Gotten better each week

Edit. Go to town on Simon Buckley, he's wildesque shithouse and soft as melted butter

I agree. He's got a fair way to go, but there's a lot to like.

Agree with you on Swan Quicky. He was bloody good today but his kicking ain't as good as it was in 2010 or even last year. His goal kicking in particular has been below his best.

Happy to get the win, we will need to improve a lot to beat the dons though.

I reckon his kicking is always pretty ordinary at the beginning of the season, but it gets better over the course of the year.

No way Simon Buckley was shit. He was up and about early and did some creative things when he got the pill. First AFL game back so later on was stuffed which has to be expected. But that was a better game I have seen from Buckley.

Also, Keefe is playing some great footy. Was very happy with wellinghams game, he looks super fit and may become elite this year.

Very happy with that win. We finally clicked, although we dropped off at some points, that only means we have something to improve on and get stronger.

Though I can't help but feel sorry for Port. Word is that Robbie Gray did his ACL. He'd easily be one of their best, if not their best player.

It will be interesting to see how we go for Wednesday!

I agreed with the commentators we seemed to be out of steam in that last quarter.

Swans kicking always been a little frustrating.

Agree with you Opti Sinclair did a few things today which I liked.

Glad to get the win, plenty of positives and I'm sure plenty of things the coaching staff will want to work on.

He did some ok things but on the measure of things he put in a characteristically soft performance. Put simply he doesn't go hard enough at contests. He doesn't have the hunger for it.

Anyone else rate Tom Young's game today? I thought he did well throwing his body around in the middle and laid some good tackles as well. I'm a fan.

I rated his defensive game. Applied a heap of pressure for 7 tackles, our equal 2nd highest on the ground. Didn't win enough of the ball but the effort was there so worth persisting with.

At this point is Jolly is just a blob with legs.

We are so lucky we were playing Port today. the 2011 habit of playing 1 quarter still alive and well.

Keefe keeps getting better, and Seedsman will be a player. Buckley wasn't bad for first game in almost a year.

At this point is Jolly is just a blob with legs.

Ehh I thought he was pretty decent, what were the HOs in the end? I saw him feeding a lot of taps down to Pendles et al, and he found himself alone in the forward line a couple of times too. Just needs to convert when given the chances.

Sorry but Sinclair still made some really stupid mistakes especialy that shocker 20 metres right in front of goal. Yes he kicked a goal but didn't impress me all that much.

Seedsman showed more and he was only on for a quarter and a bit. Buckley wasn't shocking like someone said I thought he wasn't too bad considering his shitty standards. Had some beautiful kicks.

Jolly 36 HO against an underdone Renouf 17

I thought Jolly was decent, Ryder will be the test

I was really pleased with the effort. I think beating Port today was no easy task, and we should be very thankful that we got the 4 points. 72 tackles was a big plus, and although a lot of our younger guys failed to make a lot of those tackles stick, the intensity was definitely there.

There were a lot of inexperienced players out there for us, but the most pleasing thing for me was the way Sidebottom, Beams and for patches Wellingham really stood up in the absence of Daisy and Ball.

In particular I thought Beams was a big positive. He had 6 clearances and we will need him to keep up that sort of standard for the rest of the year. Sidebottom just keeps getting better, he looks a class act out there now. Big year for him if he can keep up the improvement.

Happy with Swan, Pendles and Cloke. Goldsack and Keefe did a good job down back, and one of the best things to see was Maxy right back to his 2009 best. He was competing great in one on ones and was a real general for us. Harry O played an excelletn game too, of course.

Jolly still isn't great, but his ruckwork was pretty good today. In saying that he should smash Renouf and he did. I think he will be rested on Anzac day.

Lastly, great to see Benny Johnson back, he was a cool head and just a player to provide run and carry. We need him to have a big year, so I was very pleased we treated him cautiously first game back by subbing him out.

At this point is Jolly is just a blob with legs.

That had 38 hit outs today, got back and helped out defence, went forward to effect and was the dominant ruck on the field.

Pretty good blob on legs really

The best thing today was that the players looked like they were playing for Bucks.

Their intensity was back.

I think all the shite through the week about whether there was a rift, whether this or that player didn't respect Bucks, blah blah, was all put to rest.

That was a team effort, rusty in places, compromised in places by bad turnovers.

Some young kids showed a lot.

Obviously Keeffe is doing really well.

Seedsman clearly is going to be a very good player.

Sinclair showed great intensity, though marred his game with the stub and the 50.
But good signs were there.

Young added some tackling and toughness.

Buckley did OK, showed much more intensity than he did in the twos, but still just doesn't look like wants it all bad enough. Maybe he's just laconic in a Mark Waugh type of way, but he does have some exceptional disposal skills at times.

Paine shows courage and commitment, did his usual one or two really good things, tackles fiercely but just needs to get more of it.

I'll be in the minority here, but I think Dawes shows a bit as second ruck, got several nice taps to advantage and doesn't give away the plethora of frees Leroy used to.

The alternative is to play Wood, which just makes up top heavy and reduces the interchanges for the mids, which accentuates the apparent lack of pace.

Blair didn't do enough for mine, not for the first time this year, but Sharrod was really good and Swan really had a go and again, put ot rest concerns he was not having a go for whatever reason.

Pendles back to form after his week off, but really Seedsman was close to my individual player highlight.

Very high hopes for him.

Shit I must have been at a different game today, if Sinclair gets another game I'll burn my membership, he was a disgrace no skill, no vision of play, weak body on body, without doubt the worst Collingwood player to ever put on a jump, on Jolly he was very very poor, dropped marks when he should have taken them and trailed his man all day long, they killed us on the spread used the ball better, actually had a better game plan, Christ if I could see what they were doing why didn't Buckley???

No real positives to be honest, except Beams, Seedsman looked ok, Cloke does what he does.... Sorry if it's negative but thank God it was only Port !!!!

People are way too harsh on Sinclair. The kid is raw and needs to work on his composure but he will make people eat their words in the long run.

Seedsman has quality written all over him and my gut tells me he will be special.

Of the young kids Paine looked like he struggled most. Looked short and a tad slow. Early days but I suspect he will have similar short comings to Jack Anthony.

I would put Nathan Brown into the forward line next week and drop Dawes. This won't happen though as jolly will struggle in the ruck against Ryder around the ground.

Would also prefer didak to young. Buckley needs to stay despite flakey performance for team balance.

Sinclair does not know how to play forward, he had some perfect 1 out opportunities where he could have stopped and led back the other way and got some lace out ball, but didn't.
Young is still VFL standard.
Paine is VFL standard and certainly not AFL fit yet, but he has promise.
Simon Buckley has plenty of good but neutralises it with a slow reaction time
Keefe looks like the player we saw in last years pre-season, good hands and kicks well on both feet. He's our 4th choice tall backline player so kudos to him

Harry probably played half the game as the loose man which helped his game, but to me he always plays better on those medum marking forwards because he knows he can burn them on the run, whereas the small nimble players can pressure him trying to run off

we still don't look fit, and if I wasn't mistaken I saw Dawes take a couple of marks with his hands in front

Couldnt agree more with LEGENDSTATUS.

if Sinclair gets another game I'll go hee..

He wouldnt get a game at local footy level, seriously.

Paine - eh... How can you be 18 and not be able to RUN & CHASE!!

Seedsman is the only one that has promise that is getting a game.

Where's Ugle and why not give Yagmoor another shot today? We're playing with 16 out there at the moment.

Nice Win but I thought we only played parts of the Game.

Thoughts:

  • God Sinclair is a Dud and why he gets a Game I don't know why
  • Seedsman was Good and Love his Delivery to Cloke in Last Qtr
  • Paine was well Beaten but Still Competed Well
  • Love Sidebottoms Game
  • Dawes was more Involved
  • Keeffe was very good

Umps where Bloody Cheats today. They had money on the Power I reckon:mad:

Need a Win and some deeply needed confidence for quite a few players.

Thoughts:

Sinclair has poor disposal and is still nervous
Seedsman showed some good signs
Cloke is a mountain
Sidebottoms, Pendelbury and Swan had a better game
Beams is a great kick and disposals are good
Johnson gave us some needed run, Marty too.
Dawes is still a disappointment, Needs to hold marks
Harry got some confidence, but was never made accountable.

Go Pies
