That had 38 hit outs today, got back and helped out defence, went forward to effect and was the dominant ruck on the field.

Pretty good blob on legs really

38 hit outs, and?

The ball falling onto Jolly's hand counts you know.

When he went back he never went to the right spot, and when he did, he was ineffectual in the contest, only took one mark back there.

When he kicked forward, he rarely hit a target. Didn't use his bulk at all.

Rubbish took at least 3 marks in the defensive 50 and effected at least 3 or 4 othe contests.

Took a couple of marks up forward and should have kicked at least 1 goal.

You're scrambling to defend a poor call, jolly was the best ruckman on the ground today by far and his form issues have been hugely overblown

CHASE!!!! is the right word 5 metres behind Port players all day

Well I did not notice it very much. Few time he was behind but he still Chase a Fair Bit and Gave Pressure

You got it Opti. Jolly had a great game. Not sure what people were expecting. Polly Farmer?

No way Simon Buckley was shit. He was up and about early and did some creative things when he got the pill. First AFL game back so later on was stuffed which has to be expected. But that was a better game I have seen from Buckley.

Also, Keefe is playing some great footy. Was very happy with wellinghams game, he looks super fit and may become elite this year.

I cold not disagree more about buckley. I would be happy if he never plays a game in the black and white again. Offensively he can be ok but he relies on being way out on his own and kicking with very little pressue. In a contested situation he is useless. There was a 5 minute period in the 3rd quater when he looked like he was trying to run away from his own shadow. If we could put his foot skills on Sinclair we would have a gem but unfortunately I think Sinclairs skills will always hold him back and buckleys heart will always hold him back

One thing I forgot to mention in the OP was the slight positional change of Dawes and Cloke. Dawes was higher up the field with Cloke deeper. This works into both players strengths and is something we need to work towards orchestrating as often as possible. Dawes is a very good player when he gets to work his player over, lead and work harder. He has a big tank for a big guy. It goes without saying that the more marks Cloke takes around goal range the better it is for the side so having Dawes do the hard work up the ground is in the best interests for the side. Dawes is also on balance a better field kick than Cloke (Cloke has his moments) so his kicking in 50 can be dangerous.

I agree Dawes is better up the Ground and I agree Dawes is a very good Kicking into the Forward 50

True he does have a big tank. The problem is that if i was an opposition coach i'd play a half back flanker on him to cancel his tank. His marking strength wouldn't worry a back pocket let alone a back flanker....

A very dull game today from the boys but that could just be Etihad stadium.

Positives

- The intensity was great today
- Keefe's game
- We won

Negatives

- Dawesy just isn't threatening anything this year
- Our skill level
- Only 30k at the game? Lets get the hell out of Etihad Stadium

I must have been at a different game to a lot of you.

Wow, some much negativity.

I enjoyed the game; from the moment the players came on the ground, I could feel their intensity was there. (did I get there/their correct?) That gave me such a good feeling straight away. Yeah, there were some sloppy plays, some sloppy skills, but I felt there was more cohesion than I have seen this year; and that is without some of our most senior and elite players.
I actually started to believe we may have some true depth by the pointy end....

Not going to knock any young guys, I am willing to wait and see.
Liked what I saw from most of our seniors. Not sure why anyone would knock Jolly, I thought he was really decent today.
S.Buckley....he drives me crazy; I feel he has some great skills, but it is like he reacts 1/2 a second later than he should...and therefore always messes up. Someone needs to put a rocket up his butt!

I don't think people are being Negative,

I feel they are being Constructive Comments even if they are not Positive.

Yes it was great to see the Team Playing as they Should and I loved the Multiple Men in Tackles

I remember when it took Ben Johnson 2 and a half years to get loved by peanuts...Toovey the same....Lachie Keefe by some too.....it really is a joke how naive some supporters are.

Whinge, bitch, moan....all you do is look stupid.

Imagine being a Bulldogs, Melbourne, St.Kilda or Richmond supporter. Decades of utter, utter shit. We win a game - by a comfortable margin where we were never really threatened - and we have negative ****wits looking ridiculous. It defies logic.

Lastly, great to see Benny Johnson back, he was a cool head and just a player to provide run and carry. We need him to have a big year, so I was very pleased we treated him cautiously first game back by subbing him out.

Was great when he calmed Fasolo down to take the kick from 50. Fasolo looked like he was going to burst, until Johnno came in. Johnno had that 1 awful shank but otherwise was a good first up performance.

Constructive criticisms are made by the coaching staff to the players. How are your comments going to ever, ever be constructive?

That was honestly the highlight of the game for me. I felt that goal was earned by Johnno. He showed true leadership and made it intimate for us all. :thumbsu:

By saying "so much negativity", I was not disregarding the constructive criticism. If you read my post, I was not blindly saying we were brilliant. Not at all! I believe I did point out some negatives, I also felt it was not necessary to harp on points already made by others (re: younger players).

AND, I must say, I do think people are being negative when they knock players that actually had a decent game (especially when they make it their focus of posting to knock certain players constantly)....SB is not who I am talking about.

I think you are talking about BS (not bullshit;)).:D

I actually liked that Sinclair shut a few people up today, his pressure early on was sensational, and he was part of the reason why we basically won that game in the first quarter.

There's no way he's not playing on ANZAC day now, especially with the outs we will still have.

I was happy with the result, we got through our first game all year without any new injuries, that's the biggest positive out of today for sure.:thumbsu:

Then what is the Point is Posting then because the Inner Sanctum never read them?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure how Sinclair shut anyone up today? For me he was one of our worst. Yeah his intensity is great and a few more players could do well following his intensity, but I've never seen such a clanger magnet before. Mongrels every time he gets the ball, almost nothing good ever comes of him picking up the pill. Now before you flame me, I've NEVER not liked a Pies player, I even like Simon Buckley a little bit. Sinclair though, he's going to need to learn to kick if he wants my love. And before anyone brings up "Well Swanny can't kick, but you love him." Swanny CAN kick. Most his kicks are to good space, they just look shocking. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Couldnt watch the game today but by all reports the intensity was much better.

Those bashing Jolly just give it up, he is better at round-the-ground stoppages because he can jostle more, taking away the opponent's jump advantage that they have a centre bounce.

Good signs, we will beat Bulldogs and Brisbane, if we can get over Essendon we will most likely be 5-2 heading into the Geelong game (who are also struggling atm)

From what I have seen of them this year so far, Port are much improved and will take a few scalps this year.

Funny thing is, I was talking about Jolls not Sinclair. But, since we are talking about BS; I did say to my husband at half time...."finally, I am not cringing everytime Sincs gets near the ball". I actually think he is improving, and has some real potential that is starting to be seen.
As a supporter base, I feel sometimes we can be a little harsh on the younger guys (and probably also on our guns), because we trully do have some extremely fantastic talent that we expect everyone to be as good as. We have had some real luck with some of our later picks and now we expect everyone to be that shining.

Yes Sinclair give a lot of Pressure then he Stuffs it up when he get a Touch.

No New Injuries is Fantastic:eek:
