A big list of players who had good games - Paps had a standout tonight, Taylor was fantastic. Pearce a bit rusty with a few overcooked kicks, but we'll start to get everything going as the year progresses.

It appears that there's a lot more confidence in the boys now ... that's half the battle.

Great stuff!

Great effort from the boys. Shame the scoop/throw rushed behind wasn't called, the soft 70m penalty was paid for a goal at the other end. Daniher being too soft to stand in the ruck free kick and the bullshit advantage call to name a few.

Thought the umpiring was pretty terrible against us. Shattered with the loss.

Good to see the effort from the boys tonight though. Still really lacking that polish with our disposal. If we can fix that up I can see us winning a few more this year.

Unlucky in the end. If Essendon try to chip it around like that against anyone else when they're only 2 point up, they'll get slaughtered.
Jake Carlisle playing forward is more helpful to the other team, and I've never seen a key forward fall over as easily as Daniher.

Our young players just keep getting better. Paparone 29 touches, Aish 23 and Taylor 19. Even when Rockliff starts slowly he still ends up with 35 touches and 10 tackles. Would be a genuine Brownlow chance if we weren't at the bottom of the ladder.

Paparone with a career high 29 disposals. :thumbsu:

Lots to like about the Lions tonight. They showed pride in the guernsey, fought for one another, and it was a shame for the umpires to ruin a close, classic footy game.

Looking forward to the next few weeks as we get senior players back.

With 7 teenagers though and no drug assistance, that was a bloody effort.

Pleased overall with the effort.

There is something distinctively off about Hanley's kicking this year. It's a shame because you'd think he would get better and better. Maybe he's been around long enough for bad habits to creep in?

well even if you guys lost we all know essendon are shit campaigners. Wishing you guys had won

That one hurts, only because Essendon is easily my MOST hated team in the AFL.

The future is there for the Lions fans to see, luckily we will let our kids naturally develop though.

Yep really proud of the boys tonight. Just lacking that bit of polish and class to finish things off. Zorko tried his guts out. Taylor was fantastic. While disappointed in the loss, happy with the effort and hoping they continue this next week against North when us Melbourne supporters get to see them.
Will be hoping for a win but will be pleased if we can just follow up with the same amount of effort.

Hanley looks unwell.
Take care Pearce we need you mate.

It was a tough loss in the end but what an awesome team effort. It is easy to forget how young this team is but didn't they show some fight tonight? I feel for Leppa and the boy's because it is obvious they wanted that win so bad. I can't think of one player who didn't play well. I thought one aspect of our game that really improved this week was our handballs under pressure and I think that was because the boy's worked really hard to present an option. Overall it was a great team effort and I think it was our best game for the year.

The Lions looked great tonight. If not for a questionable "advantage", you probably would have won it.

Gee the kids looked good tonight. I hope they can stay together as a group and really build over the next few years. Hopefully they all have plenty time in the gym and continue to show what they showed tonight.

That cuts deep. So close and boys played their guts out. Full credit to them. We just lack that touch of class and poise with the last possession going into the forward 50. The pressure all night was outstanding. Mind you it helped when the Bombers moved the ball so slowly.

Great to see Pappa have his best game for the club, he is getting miles into the legs and now covering the ground better - he still looks a little unsure what option to take but he will get there and be a player for the club. Aish and Taylor were outstanding again. Cutler was good and shows composure and Gardiner was excellent down back, but poor Robbo just had a night to forget.

Jackson Paine needs to be more aggressive. I think Merrett stays forward for rest of his career. Outside of Browny he is our next best option.

Finally if Chapman doesn't get an extended holiday after those two disgraceful cheap shots i will give up.
