RD 9:- Crows v Blues matchday thread.

That half of football was deplorable, it was frustrating to watch.

Our skills and decision making were nowhere near AFL standard. I lost count of how many times we handballed to someone stationary who then got tackled for instance. And the number of missed targets with kicks was equally embarrassing.

You can put all that down partly to the Crows' pressure, but even so we shouldn't be that much of a rabble if we have any ambitions to play finals.

And I don't pretend to be anything of an expert on tactics, but our approach (especially in the first term with the wind) looked just plain wrong.

Oh well, at least we can still watch and endure in the hope that we can kick a goal.

Since the second quarter against Brisbane, the only good footy Carlton has played was against the Bulldogs.

Ratten is so tactically inept it's mindboggling.

From a dead set horrible first half, i think the 2 young fellas down back, Bower and Austin can hold their heads up high.

And Browne. Has surprised me how well he's kept composed.

Wouldn't expect any less from Pauly B. Absolute gun.

Aussie has stood up also.

The rest have been deplorable.

Where the hell is our run and carry? where is our forward structure???

Bower and Aussie have been good down back and that's about it.

It's all about pressure and the Crows came to play today, no doubt about it.

Ratts has to do something.

If we can just work our way through our game, stand up to the pressure and get some scoreboard pressure on, we may make the scoreboard look a little better than it does at the minute.

F--king soft, same blokes going missing when the heat is on, same blokes that can rack up 20, 25 or 30 touches every week we are going well, f--king soft!!! Not even close to a finals team at present as our form of the past month or so is terrible and YES that is including beating Collingwood by 51 points in a lack lustre affair who had half a side. DISGUSTING and would want to show something the second half.

No-one ultrafloods like the Crows ultraflood, and these conditions are suiting them perfectly. The Crows are playing a 16 man defence, and forcing stoppages to slow the game down at every opportunity, and it's working brilliantly. Back to basics. Midfield need to regroup and start winning stoppages. The defence is under huge pressure and doing the best they can. If there's 14 Crows defenders, we just have to hold up play, and wait to get some decent numbers into the forward 50. Patience. Bombing long into a Crows ultraflood won't work. We have a big enough list talent advantage over them to win this one still. Need to regroup, and play smarter. I like these games, because it's against the odds.

Crows have sucked in the 3rd quarter this year conceding a shitload of goals. I hope this stays true and we can kick a quick 6 to nil and get back into the game.

Only positives are the two young boys in the back, if it wasn't for them we would be 70 points down.

Mate, while his disposal has been ordinary - he and 21 other blokes out there, he's one of the few who's actually working hard and trying to give us something.

How lazy are our players? It annoys me no end. Constantly the Crows have players free in the midfield and the players in front of the ball are stagnant. They don't present nearly hard enough.

We look like children playing against men out there. Struggling with the pressure and a lot of our players look weak both physically and mentally.

Agreed on both counts.

Waite is a big loss. Any news yet?

mate, I feel your pain but it is more fundamental that just softness at the ball. WE have a coach that has no tactical ability and the players are unsure of themselves and what to do with the ball. We also have 5 guys out there (Hampson, THornton, Armfield, Russell and Wiggins) that shouldn't be playing AFL football

The ball hasn't got down to the foward line so you can't blame Eddie.

If I was Ratts, I'd leave Kreuz, Fev and Eddie in the forward line and let Hampson battle it out in the ruck.

We need something from guys like Simpson, Gibbs and Murphy.

Have to admit, our young defenders are doing amazingly well considering the pressure they're under. Austin, Bower, Jamo, and Joseph all very good. We're getting killed at stoppages, and playing silly tactics against the Crows ultraflooding. Sort the midfield problems out, play a little smarter, and we're a chance.

No confidence, zero confidence today. Run and carry works when people are willing to work hard and have the courage to take people on. The crows set the tone early by putting a mass amount of pressure and we got scared. Went back into our shells and started playing chip, chip, chip.

Yep, everytime we get it into the forward 50 we're outnumbered like 1 to 5. If there's no numbers, they shouldn't just bomb it long. Have to play it smarter.
