5. Cousins (good to see him pick up 26 possessions and a bit of form)
4. Jones (hard working performance that should go well rewarded)
3. Matera (can't go past his 5 goals and continued good form for a small forward)
2. Haynes (put in a good effort after a pretty medicore one the previous week against collingwood)
1. Jackovich (good performance with his heart beat back on track and in synch with the eagles form)

Gardiner - took his opportunities really really well :)
Cousins - leading possie getter made a few blues but had a good night
Matera - bang bang bang
Jakovich - Jakhammer provided a target everytime, very surprised to see Gaspar chuck Jako like a rag doll at times in the game
Haynes - Another good leading target
Jones - a target, a contributor, a complement to the midfield, solid and sterling effort.

Possibly the hardest match to judge I've ever seen - no standouts and a real team performance, with different players stepping up at different times.

5 Jones - I just thought he did the really hard things well all night all over the field
4 Haynes - excellent long & short leading, very fast, 4 goals, second efforts this week (and I've criticised him on that score in the past), not much more a FF can do
3 Cousins - back on track, as he's been getting for a few weeks now, but did some really skilful things today and was the top possession-getter (and none were soft, either)
2 Gardiner - by his standards an ordinary first quarter (I honestly think he slacked off and thought it would be easy), but was too good up forward in the second and absolutely killed them in the third and fourth with beautiful taps to running midfielders
1 Glass - very creditable performance on a tough opponent, scored a goal and even did a couple of good kicks

Incredibly unlucky and deserving encouragement awards:

Humm - hard at it and a ball magnet in the 2nd half when we started to dominate, delivered that footpass to Haynes on the lead
Cox - found some form in the ruck in the second quarter
Wirrpunda - ridiculously classy and gave his (much younger) opponent a lesson
Matera - 5 goals and a threat all night and I still can't fit him in
Sampi - see Matera with less goals, the good news is that I think if it's not one, it'll be the other
Braun & Green - both good and hard at it all night
Jako - goals and a target all night - one of the few to be switched on early when we were sluggish
Judd, Fletcher, Kerr, Morrison, Hunter all got a fair bit of the footy and played their part
Embley, Banfield, Munro, Carroll did quite well too.

5. Cousins: Back to his best

4. Jones: Has been one of the standout improvers this year. Strong marking all night and his kicking has improved!

3. Haynes: My adopted player - Fantastic game, strong hard leading, excellent marking and four goals. Couldn't have done any more to show the doubters that he deserves to be in the side.

2. Gardiner: Another great game. Gardy received a lot more support tonight from Dean but in the last quarter especially, his work with Ben was unbelievable.

1. DARREN GLASS: Gave away height and size to Richardson but did a fantastic job - loved when he ran down and kicked a goal! Two of Richo's goals came in about five minutes when Darren was having a rest and Carroll was on him. I think this could be the turning point in Darren's career.
(I don't know where Digby Beacham was watching the game (see Sunday Times) but in his article he says "the backline was clinical, except for Darren Glass" He certainly was not watching from where I was - the crowd around me was rapt with Darren's game.

Spot on. In fact Glass going to the bench was partly responsible for stopping our onslaught in the third quarter.

5: Cousins - Damn he was good, was really hard at the ball and for the first time in a while he's played at a high intensity
4: Gardiner - 2nd favourite for the Brownlow behind Voss, and his form doesn't look like waning
3: Wirrpunda - Best rebounding defender in the league?
2: Haynes - Did everything right. Wilson who??
1: Humm - Looked pretty comfortable in the midfield, ey?

Speaking of which, can anyone explain why Glass was benched in the third?

Woosha's treatment of the bloke still amazes me at times.
