Worst part about all of this is that Gawn will be fired up as all hell after we went after him in round 1 last year. This could be one of the all time most one sided hitout/clearance games. Barring an amazingly efficient forward 50 display (lol, imagine that), I can't see how we possibly win this game.

I'm not saying we will win or that I'm even confident - but it's not impossible. Melbourne are pretty much just a midfield (who are absolutely on fire at the moment) with only one in-form key defender (May) and their best performing key forward for the year is Sam Weideman.

We will need to be clever and focus on not getting beaten too badly in the middle - probably an honourable loss in the guts could be enough, especially if we set up well to stop spread from stoppage. If Melbourne are getting heat on their way out of stoppage, they are not great kicks (big bodied grunts) and we can have a wall across half-back featuring DBJ, Hammer and hopefully McKenzie to repel them, then hurt them with our hard runnners (Boak, Duursma, Amon, Butters etc.) going the other way.

So its not impossible.

The under 23 game against the Crows Hayes absolutely dominated in the ruck. He wasn't against a genuine ruck but his leap was good and he was moving around the ground well. Would prefer he gets a go over Buzza.

He was playing a genuine ruck. A 26yr old 200+cm dinosaur ruck called Kieren Strahan. Demolished him. Strahan isn’t an afl level ruck and is a pure list clogger but it was a great effort for a kid to tear him apart.

I’m all for hayes playing. Swap between forward and ruck. Solve two glaring issues were facing with one selection

I like what he does forward as well he knows how to lead which Ladhams struggles with anyway with no SANFL in sight go the two prong.

Our ladder position is a false representation of where we are at. This is well and truly a 50/50 game. I think the fact we will have an 8 game ruck going up against the superstar Max Gawn, will give you guys a hell of an advantage. If Melbourne aren't favourites with the bookies, then a smart gambler would be putting their money on the Dee's.

When our game starts to fall away each season, we make average teams look like world beaters, playing them into form and kickstarting their season. I think Melbourne will be feeling pretty good about themselves by 10pm Thursday.

I’d like Hayes to come in to help Ladhams and as a point of difference . Ladhams doesn’t seem to jump at the ball and if he gets coached to do that more he’ll get tired because he’s not used to it . He’s another one of these players like SPP who’s first movement seems to be sideways.
Give me straight liners any day .
Not saying Ladhams is not a good player in the making , his field play is generally good to excellent and if he can use his height to his advantage better he’ll be a ripper but this is about winning this game and I reckon he needs help against Gawn , if we can nullify him we can at least break even in the midfield we’ll probably win , if we can’t we’ll probably lose
