I dont understand the obsession with Atley by some members on here. Hes never shown anything at AFL level to suggest he can handle the pace of the game. He always seems a step slow in his decision making, and I've noticed that even when watching him closely at the Magpies.

Drew is a much better player and would be far higher up the pecking order if not for his constant run with fairly significant injuries.

If Lycett cant play we cant lose contested ball again. Melb have a great midfield and rely on slingshot footy. Won’t be surprised if Rockliff comes back in.

Georgiades is the Marshall for the next 6 weeks.
Westhoff and Rozee need rests
McKenzie straight back in. Wouldnt mind seeing Bergman or Cox in

It is never as good or as bad as it seems. Up until 10 min mark of the last qtr we were well in that game v St Kilda. In fact had we converted our dominance in the third, it was probably sewn up. I know its ifs and buts, and i dislike Ken as much as you all do, as well as realising the ghosts of past seasons looking like re-appearing, but we are top and we have banked 6 wins, so it is not all doom and gloom.

Injuries certainly stacking up, but i am hopeful of some resilience and deep(ish) squad will help us the next 3 weeks. We just need to eek out 2 wins from the next 4 i reckon. 8 and 4 with games against Sydney/Hawks/North/Coll/Ess to finish you would hope at the very least we get to 11 wins which is a top 4-6 finish i reckon....

I just want to see us play finals again.

As for this week - play your best team with an eye on Monday. I reckon we are a better shot of knocking off the Dogs at a home with a weakened team. So I would be resting better players like Boak/Dixon Rozee etc next monday as opposed to Thursday.

With Todd’s thumb surgery, it’s now “come on down Sammie Hayes”. Of course there is another option, Jack Watts. Big guys are needed - I appreciated the way the saints used their tall timber in that 4th quarter.
We can't bring in 2 ruckmen unless one of them can go forward and actually compete . It doesn't work.

Stkilda have 2 Rickman working perfectly.

We played 2 rucks vs Melbourne in Rd 1 last year - admittedly 2 experienced rucks in Lycett and Ryder.

It would be a ballsy move (playing both Ladhams and Hayes) but it would allow us to play in a similar way, at least structurally, to the first part of the season.

There is nothing wrong with Ladhams' ball getting ability as he averages 20.5 disposals with 3 marks a game so far this season. He could probably fill the spot left by Marshall who has had surgery on his thumb. The question is more is Hayes up to taking his share of the ruck work against Max Gwan?

It is probably all immaterial because we know that Ken will stick with one ruckman and probably recall Cam Sutcliffe in place of Marshall.

Among the takeaways from the game on Saturday, Bassett said the coaches had identified bland ball movement and poor contest work as the keys to the result.

“There were probably two key themes. Our offensive ball movement was a tad bland and our contest, we weren’t nearly tough enough,” he said.

“Our midfield didn’t have their best day so we’d be looking for an adjustment, more around what we do more than necessarily personnel but we’ll see later in the week what that looks like.

“We all have bad days and we’d prefer not to have ones like Saturday. We’ve got some good people in there who have been doing a good job for us so we’ll be looking for an adjustment this week.”

A huge challenge given the fees finding form. Making the task harder is the drop in form by so many players.

I’d love to know what’s behind the form drop, be it injuries or tiredness.

Ken has to trust all the players in the squad and select match fit players rather than playing injured. Then again he’s playing to make the 8, rather than a flag.

If Westhoff plays again after being dropped, getting a lifeline and playing like total arse, we are not taking this seriously. Or more likely the coach is playing for his one year extension to the detriment of developing this list for the future.

Westy won’t play.
I’ll bet my signed poster of Ken on it

David Luiz is actually pretty good 75% of the time with 25% howlers. Bonner is ordinary all the time. The concept of Bonner is good - the size, speed, the kick etc but hes just not that good.

He’s Alberto Moreno.

Can he take a contested mark? I haven't seen it.

You're right about Sutcliffe coming in.
