I rate Beams and Polec too but dropping players who are among your best, including a first gamer, is not the answer. Have another look at Adcock's game in the first half when the heat was on.
Played loose? and when chasing? didn't look as though he could raise his pace? higher than a jog??

Was he playing injured?

My favourite bit is where she insists she "has the right" to abuse the shit out of Ace.

She is clearly not the full quid. She loves all of the Lions players except Cornelius. Strange IMO. She has just tweeted to Vossy asking for Retzlaff to get a game. Like our forwards were the problem today.

Yeo afer a promising start was towelled when matched up against Aaron Black, when moved deep back.

Who actually does our match-ups? Lester sits as the sub, but we need to throw Yeo down back to get the match-ups right. Aaron Black doesn't touch the ball once Lester comes on (granted we were far better by then). This was a complete stuff-up, but was obvious from the start.

Glad the boys showed some ticker but what changed with the on-ballers to turn it around? Quite frustrating.

Zorko & Green do give us some zip around the forward line, but we still need to slot in another small pressure foward, preferably with some goal sense.

The difference? Our mids started to get on top and cut off their i50 supply. When Lester came on it seemed he replaced Golby and Golby went up the wing. Lester being the sub is a non-factor.

Not sure I said it was the difference!! Not difficult to roll out the midfielder line - Blynd Freddie could see that. ;)

I am merely making a valid point. You may want to have a look at the replay, & check who was one out against Black from late in the first onwards. I think you will find it became Yeo for a very long period of the game (felt sorry for thr kid). Just should never have happended. North played 3 guys deeps over 190cms - we were clearly one tall down back short. Didn't cost us the game, but it stood out like Dogs Nuts.

Will say it again whoever did the match-ups buggered it up.

Mids

You're like us.

There are glimpses but you're just not ready and won't be for a couple more years.

My first car was one of these (though not this one) and it's still very hard to go past the HQ Holden.

It was my bapou's originally and I bought it from my yiayia after he passed away.

It was in mint condition when I got it in 1980 and I had a lot of great times in it.

HQ Premier? Very impressive, bypassed the Belmont and Kingswood entirely!

Oscillating fan on the dash?:D

was at the game today, before the bounce I was really hopefull
the lions players were going to put in a real hard effort today!!!!!!!
wow I don't remember seeing so many blokes not ready to play, the first
ten minutes was so second rate , the umpires were getting the blame from the
lions supporters around me , which I had to laugh at ....... when your first to the ball
you get rewarded

our skills are not up to AFL standard!!!!!!!!!!
zorko looks like a real fighter ,like him a lot

Great second half today but i would love to know what was said at half time. Whatever it was why wasn't it said at the start.
Anyway, some soft and questionable free kicks and 50m penalties helped North get momentum from the beginning. Although our lack of intensity and RUN was very obvious.

I still don't understand why Hudson did not play because today's game made it evident that Longer needs some help. (more than Merrett).
Being the main ruckman, Longer looked absolutely stuffed throughout the game. Even too tired to raise his arms to take a mark, or chase.

Green, Cornelius and Brown all great today.
Next week shall be interesting!!

I'm familiar with said Tweeter and I can't say I have noticed her at any reserves games.

It could rain 100mm per reserves game, every game, with her out in it without an umbrella and it still wouldn't justify such a ridiculous and spiteful grudge.

What a day. I know someone said that us lions supporter complaining about the umpires were unjustified, but the first quarter was atrocious. i think 3 of their 4 goals were directly from free kicks including a howler from Andrew Swallow throwing his head back when he was tackled. I guess we will see if the AFL is serious about players not staging for free kicks, I couldn't believe it.

As for the game what was most frustrating about Adcocks game was that he was our loose man as North dropped a guy back to double team our forwards. It was painful to watch Adcock do absolutely nothing while the defenders constantly zoned off and set up all the attacking play.

On the whole the team needs to improve their one touch abilities. It's not just banfield that has a case of the fumbles, EVERYONE has it. Except for one amazing man named Dayne Zorko. I reckon he was one of the sparks that brought us back to life in the 3rd, hes clean and can take the ball at pace. Excellent player.

Ace did pretty well to kick a few goals, he got up the wings well too, although who ever was on him was constantly with him. Had a few moments of frustration where he yelled at the umpires because he got shepherded out of the contest and then his man played on while he was arguing. Once he really gets his confidence up expect him to clunk a few pretty big speckies ala Jack Riewoldt. He definitely has that potential.

Lester I thought when he came on really solidified us down back. He is super clean with the ball and while not the quickest player, just seems so composed all the time. Pressure just seems to roll off the kids back. I think a back 3 of Patful/Lester/Maguire could work and might allow Drummond to move up to the wing where he can be a lot more damaging.

Golby had a pretty tough game although the first free kick he was completely sold under the bus. Seemed not to dent his confidence too much and his attacking play out of defense is going to be really important for years too come.

Brisbane will be a great side when the players are clean with their ball pickup and can consistantly hit hard leading targets coming out of the forward line.

Oh and quickly on Longer, needs to have the confidence to go back and kick the god dam ball him self, took a few good marks but just blindly handballed it off to a midfielder who was surrounded by north players.

Wondered exactly the same thing. Was at the game and he seemed out of sorts. We were obviously smashed out of the middle in the first half but we also gave away too many free kicks in the backline and North got some goals from lack of pressure from us when the ball hit the ground....most notably Hanleys stuff up.

Loved Brown's goal after the half time siren and the 3rd quarter...but find the smashing we are getting in the first quarter from the centre and the lack of pressure in the backline really frustrating. Hate playing catch up footy.

Thought Ash played his guts out in the second half and at least tried to add some spark and dash when he went straight down the ground. Yeo and Zorko looked good. Longer looked totally stuffed and one stage couldn't hardly lift his hands.

Who were the emergencies for the game? If Blacky was sore in the warmup would it not have been possible for him to withdraw? Having him lame in the middle from the get go was not the most desirable start. Once he was subbed our clearances increased and we started the comeback, this may just be because our mids decided to start attacking the ball or it could be because we had fit players on the park.

Adcock was not accountable and he played better in the second half when he was able to run free with Lester going down back. I think besides some stupid errors resulting in forward fifty free kicks/goals our backline stood up relatively well.

I know Merrett is playing forward to help out in the ruck but I would love to see Patty playing forward along side Cornelius with Merrett back. Hudson needed to play today in my opinion, Goldy monstered Longer.

Frustrating game.. Exciting second half after an inept first half performance.

My worry is that should Cornelius get the second best defender he might simply get shut out of the game. That said how else is he going to learn to play on these types of defenders?

As he gets better he will be able to take on those better defenders. As a 21/22 year old, I think he has a lot more growing to do. Physically, mentally and skill-wise. I feel that what he needs is the support from the coaches with a follow-up run in the seniors after a good performance like this. He will now start getting better at consistently stringing quality games together.

Which is why we put Retzlaff into the side and play Merrett in defence. We need to try to stretch defences and I think with Brown, Cornelius and Retzlaff in the forward line, we might be able to do that. Even if it doesn't work immediately, we will be putting games into both Cornelius and Rezlaff, both of whom are shaping as our likely forward combination for some time to come.

I know that on paper the net effect of putting Retzlaff into the forward line in place of Merrett doesn't seem to be that great, but if we are about rebuilding, then we need to start giving Retzlaff a go and enabling Merrett to help shape the backline. I also happen to think that Retzlaff is a far better proposition as a forward than Merrett.

So who is backup ruck?

So who is backup ruck?

If we are playing Merrett as a back-up ruck all we really need is someone that can get in there and jump at the ball. Maybe Retzlaff can fill this role?

On a side note what is our plan of action when Luenburger comes back? Does he play mainly in the forward line and then act as a ruck chop out? Or does he come back in, become the main ruck and we continue to play Merrett as a forward/ruck?

I think it'll be good for him, especially with his increased work rate this season. If the opposition is going to keep dropping back in front of Brown and double/triple teaming him we need to kick it elsewhere and we have that ability now with a good lead up forward in Cornelius.

Our disposal efficiency is up and we are hitting targets in our forward fifty, with Zorko and Greene sneaking around the contests when it goes to ground we are more primed to score now than last year.

Way, too tall and too slow. Your team is going to get run off its feet every week.

I'd play Hudson off the bench in short bursts in a side that looked like this next week:

B: Pearce Hanley(11), Matt Maguire (36), Josh Drummond (39)
HB: Jared Polec (4), Daniel Merrett (21), Mitch Golby (41)
C: James Hawksley (12), Tom Rockliff (38), Daniel Rich (10)
HF: Rohan Bewick (43), Jonathan Brown (16), Jack Redden (30)
F: Josh Green (6), Bryce Retzlaff (37), Aaron Cornelius (44)
Foll: Billy Longer (5), Simon Black (20), Andrew Raines (29)
Int: Dayne Zorko (15), Ben Hudson (22), Patrick Karnezis (28), (Sub) Ash McGrath

I know not having Adcock in the side is a controversial idea, but I'd give him a week off to freshen up. I wouldn't play him in the reserves, I'd simply rest him. The next game I'd bring Adcock back and just about consider giving Black a week to freshen up.

There's still plenty of run here, I would have thought.

Anyway, it's all academic, because Voss will pick his side and we will either applaud, grizzle or engage in a bit of both from the sidelines.
