Ethan is a 19-year-old from Bunbury who only started playing football when he was 15. The 2014 season was his first year in the WAFL system where he started playing for Peel reserves, before being recruited by Swan Districts. He played 15 reserves games for Swans before breaking into their league team with two games late in the year. Ethan played predominantly half-back, showing excellent run, evasiveness and work ethic. He is a hard worker with a lot of upside.

Sounds like he came from nowhere this year and his development has been incredibly fast. We do have a good history with players who developed quickly in their draft years
 
I was at a Dockers function this morning and Harris got the text half way through his address to everyone. He told everyone that Freo rated Hughes #1 out of all the rookies so were happy to grab him with their only pick, athletic player who has all the fundamentals to become a great AFL player which they're looking to develop in their system. Plays a lot like Ibbo.

If i remember correctly the write-up on Sutcliffe was nearly identical to the description of Hughes at the time we drafted Sutcliffe. Im happy with this pick.
 
Good to see a half-back flanker. Good to see him as a West Australian, it means we could suss him out pretty intensely, but not sold on his four years of football. Nothing to lose. Hope he goes well.
