I think McCarthy deserves an opportunity when he has a tall structure around him. Apeness and Taberner etc His best performances for GWS were when he played third tall. I sometimes think we bulked him up too much to turn him into a key forward and it has affected his mobility and ruined his confidence.
Well if he comes in this week he will have the opportunity to play with Apeness and Cox where he will be the third tall.

Well Jones would get smashed, that is an absolute given.

Darcy and Ape are a good combination in that both can be dangerous forward, while Jones is a liability forward.
Darcy while he may have only played two games back would have been on a strong conditioning program for the latter period of his rehab and should be fine to play immediately.
Realistically if he were to play he is only going to see 40-50% time in the ruck anyway.

And for a mod, your awfully passive aggressive.
Don't think it was a passive aggressive response. Just a reasoned one based on posts made by others elsewhere who seem to think all decisions made by the clubs medicos are overly optimistic and often lead to recurrences of injuries which are apparently entirely foreseeable. This is sport and injuries happen and at the elite level just about every player who takes the filed is managing some kind of niggle by this time in the season. Hell, many start with a niggle they have been managing for years before the season gets underway. There is some science to managing injury but the unpredictable nature of the game with twisting and turning motions coupled with speed, power and heavy contact means players will get hurt even given the best injury managment approach.

For what its worth, I hope Darcy plays and gets through unscathed but I also understand why the club may go with giving him another game in the WAFL to keep building fitness and form.

Yes. That would be a perfect opportunity. He can then take the rest of the season to play that role (form permitting). Taberner will be back soon so he will need to perform to keep his spot.

After reading through the Peel thread I am more convinced that the player we need to provide some inside mid grunt is Gray. He isn’t a replacement for Fyfe they don’t exist. But the rest of the peel boys are a little to young or outside run for what our midfield needs.

Is Gray actually any good? Terrible kick, doesn't get enough of the ball and doesn't have any real marking ability/goal sense to be a dangerous small forward. Gives great effort but come on, I'd like a little more from an AFL player.

He's a cog that oils the other cogs to make them turn more smoothly.

I think people concentrate on Gray's limitations and ignore the positive aspects he brings to the team. He has had some very good performances for us, especially considering he mainly plays back and midfield for Peel and then is put into the forward line for Freo.

I am happy with Grey playing this week. Bit of aggression around the ball and you know he will give it everything.
We moan each week about skill errors. Grey will add to those errors substantially. Love his aggressions (as do you) but I'm not sure that is enough to give him a game.

I don't think he is a long term prospect (certainly not B22), but we just need some presence around stoppages this week and I think Brady can do that.

That's a fair comment. His poor kicking and being injury prone will make him expendable unfortunately, but we are as soft as butter and have no defensive pressure/run and he will help us with that.

Not sure why people are so down on Hughes all of a sudden? It's not his fault he hasn't been given a run. Hasn't done much wrong at Peel.

Yeah it's staggering.

One of our best youngsters last year - gets his first fairly long injury, hampered pre-season and now playing decent WAFL but apparently he's terribly out of form and is heading towards delisting?
