Not gonna lie.. still coming down in the afterglow of Monday... just slowly freeze framing my way thru the Hawks rooms footage post game as they sit there looking down all bitter and broken... warms the heart....

But all good things must and so the Blues are next.

They got off the canvas with a season defining and career saving win Vs WC for which they must be proud.... so lets see what they bring against us.

They will be looking to prove things for sure and this will be their GF... as most teams we play its their GF after the last 20 years.

We will have some forced and unforced changes I feel.
Miers is out for 2 weeks I presume after Connor McGreggor went all UFC on Miers face - chicken shit act but will be pinged for it.
WE will miss Miers link up and F50 entry stuff as he's a wizard at it and our record when he has under like 15 touches aint great.

I can see Ollie Henry getting a rest too after his form line over the last 6 weeks has flattened greatly.

MAybe even Stanley getting managed.

So out:

Miers
Henry
Stanley

In:
Mullin
Wiltshire
Clohesy

Or something like that.
BLues will be fast and can open us up so speed on the G will be needed.
Wiltshire had ordinary game VFL last outing so its a cumulative selection rather than last outing - and Im not sure he's ready for the speed of it yet but remains to be seen.

We know Miers is out, if we want to leave it at just the single change then Mullin in should his hip be ok seems the logical decision

Stanley is one I can see being managed - no doubt TDK is a formidable ruck, but coming up against Carlton & Collingwood off consecutive 6 day breaks, along with signs of him tiring in the last yesterday - thinking we'll see him manager at some stage in the near future

This is going to be a really tough one, backing up off a six day break, Miers out, Carlton playing to keep their season alive.

Don't think a midfield of just Smith, Holmes and Atkins can get it done against Cripps, Walsh, Hewett, Cerra and TDK.
Would love to see Stewart in the middle which may require Kolo to return, and would like to see Danger play more midfield - one CBA yesterday was odd and very brave coaching by Scott especially when Newcombe and co were getting on top of us.

Rest/manage no one this week Carlton are the easier of the two encounter over the next 12 days grab these 4 points then look at it again.

What's the deal with Wiltshire? I don't see him getting a game based on his VFL form. His numbers are ordinary. Ollie Henry must be dropped. He just isn't interested and isn't fit. My lame cat could beat him across the ground. Jack Henry would be an improvement on his younger brother.

I don't think we can manage Stanley this week. If Chol and Gunston made our defence look suspect at times I'd hate to see what Curnow and McKay could do to them if they have a good night.

I'd say just Mullin in for Miers is the only change. Maybe we see Wiltshire ahead of Clohesy too. I think we give Knevitt another chance.

Wiltshire this week wasn't great but his prior 2 weeks were very good

Henry really needs to be dropped and unfortunately for him I reckon it’s the moving of Danger to the forward line that has killed him. I’d like to see Ted replace Ollie up forward for the whole game.
At least with Clohessy you get someone willing to run and tackle. OHenry just can't be bothered, and even if he could he is embarrassingly slow. He needs a running coach to teach him the basics.

Reckon we look to win this then rest 2 or 3 for the pies game, as we are more likely to lose that anyway, and although the blues have been horrible so far this season, they are still a dangerous list should they get ascendancy.
Win this, rest and lose vs the pies and then look to beat the GWS at home hoodoo.

Miers out. Mullin in.
Switch up some rotations to cover Miers being out, potentially playing Lawson a bit further up the ground with Mullin coming in.
Few in the gun if they put up another poor game.

Disagree - you rest players against the weaker teams, not the better ones.

Season is a marathon, especially for guys like Stanley who just don't have 20 AFL games in them this year.

We are privileged to be 4-2, and we need to avoid overload at some point. For mine, this is that point.

I thought Mannagh, Stengle, Holmes, Smith and Atkins did alright against Hawthorn's midfield on the weekend. This is the luxury we can afford having so many talented small forwards.

Leave Dangerfield & Cameron deep forward. Dempsey & Close rotating between the flanks and wing and have Neale bringing the ball to ground.
Maybe only one change with Knevitt out for Clark or Clohesy.

Our trump card in this type of matche will be Blicavs. He dictated where Hawthorn moved the ball yesterday and he the ability to give us an edge against a pretty one dimensional midfield unit who do not use the ball all that well.

I thought the #46 was genuinely excellent yesterday. Got to so many contests and influenced almost all of them for the better. It was truly vintage Blitz in that 'cover the ground and interrupt their ball movement' role. And his hard running forward to get on the end of that possession chain and nail what proved to be a very important goal (in a game when many others missed easier shots) really underlined his importance to our team on the day.

Deserved more than the one coaches' vote, I thought.

Health/Injury updates for players relevant to our clash with Carlton

Jake Kolodjashnij

“Jake was available to play in the VFL last Sunday, however had low back pain on the morning of the game and it was decided to give him an additional week off. He is set to return via the VFL this weekend against Carlton.”

Oisin Mullin

Hip
“Oisin had some hip soreness while warming up for the game against Hawthorn and we decided to take a cautious approach and withdraw him from the game. He will train this week and will be a test to play Carlton.”

Gryan Miers

Concussion, TBC
“Gryan has entered the AFL’s concussion protocol following an incident in the third quarter of Monday’s game. We will know more around his possible return timeline as he progresses through the graded return to play protocol.”

Real danger game this one
No pun intended
A loss wouldn't surprise here
Maybe not. But it would infuriate.

Carlton have gone 6-11 from their last seventeen games, dating back to Round 15 of last season. And the only teams they've beaten in that time are the Weagles (twice), the Kangas (twice), the Tigers, and us.

If Stanley pulls up well he has to play. SDK got man handled last year against his brother and can't see that changing too much. This is a massive danger game. I'd be playing Stewart in the middle to get his hands on the footy. Leave the intercepting role to Guthrie who is now elite in my opinion. Bring either Clark or Mullin in for Miers. That's all.

Maybe my opinion would be different if I caught the last game of his but having seen the two before I am 100% in favour of Miers/Henry out for Ted/Wiltshire

Unsheath the blade
I think Ted needs a spell in the VFL. His endeavour is great but his skill level is pretty low. I would rather give Stevens a run.

He didn't do well in the pressure cooker yesterday but I think he's better than that. He still got the same number of touches as Henry with less than half the game time.

It's him or Henry and I don't know what Henry's role is right now with danger there. I still like Henry long term but we need to change something up with him because we're not doing him any favours rolling him out there like this.
