The professional looking umpire u are referring to was chris stead. Yes very good performance today by chris as per usual.

also great to see veteran jamie cuffe return from retirement today for the kangas!!!!!!

The burkett brothers and chris collins are genuine stars for the tigers

Lastly jimmy nolan and brian ruffell contunued their great form today. Nolan bagging 6 and is in great form
Was it as bad as they are making it out to be?

Would be very interested to hear an example of when "player welfare" was an issue because i must have been at a different game. Yesterday the gluey surface made it difficult to move and change direction and the sun over the clubrooms made it particularly hard. As the game was filmed, i will watch it and review. Would be interesting if much was missed.

Like most clubs, the umpires have a number of injuries. About 5 senior blokes are out that moment and we also had numerous other guys off the park this weekend. Clubs need to accepting of this.

I think that's a typo O.U....... he really ment "Umpire Welfare", !......That is when you blokes in orange make a mistake whilst officiating in ANY ROMSEY GAME !!!

Not really a fair statement there OMNI. I have never had any issues at Romsey. I have known Deano for quite a while and he along with the majority of Romsey players are respectful of umpires.

This blokes side wins by 101 points complains about umpires you bag him. If they lost and he complained you would bag him.

Doona saying players make more mistakes than umpires so just suck it up is putting your head in the sand.
If a player makes a mistake he works on improving so doesn't do it again next week, he gets down on himself, the coach and or leadership group has a crack at him.
But umpires shhh don't mention it, they are precious, they must be protected, we can't have a game with out them. This is the response from the league.
If the umpires are not up to scratch they need to get more professional ie need more money.
I don't know what umpires get paid but the league is a being held back by the quality of the umpiring, to get good umpires you need to invest in them. Get them to training, make training enjoyable .

One last thing if this league is to be considered professional you cannot have a bloke umpiring his son in a senior game, that is ridiculous and totally unprofessional.

Your in Noddy Land pal ! This has NEVER occurred in our league !

And as for criticising umpires, I thought it was pretty much common knowledge right throughout our comp' this year (except in Romsey of course !) that we were currently experiencing a CRISIS of numbers within our umpiring fraternity !!! HOW does bagging the few remaining blokes left struggling along to fill the breach help to attract NEW umpires to the job in our League ??? o_O

101 point victory & the "Brains Trust" (& I use that term VERY loosely) up there wanna come out & get stuck into the few poor buggers we've got left that are doing their best to give the rest of us something to do on a Saturday afternoon.............Unf***ing believable !!!

Whether "they" like it or not O.U. their Club has had a chequered history of bagging you blokes, & might I remind you pal, it wasn't that long ago that a group of your guys had to hurriedly scuttle from the Grand Final field of play in fear for their safety & welfare when a bunch of their loyal & vocal supporters decided they wanted to take exception to a couple of your blokes umpiring decisions !!!

Well we would love to be paid higher dollars (not saying what we are paid isn't enough). Some of the talented umpires that we had in the past might not have left if we were paid more. Maybe suggest it to your club because they are the ones that pay. If they were willing to pay more, and we could recruit enough talented umpires, we would be able to put 3 umps on all senior games and that would definitely lift the standard but at this stage our association only gets paid for 2 umpires. When you see 3 at a game it comes out of the umpires associations pocket.

As for yesterday. I have no problem with people knowing who I am. I was the one you were happy enough with. I also think if there is genuine concern about the standard of umpiring you should contact your club representatives and get them to contact our umpiring group. However I think you should ask the Romsey coach or president their views on the day as I have already asked one of them and their answer was a touch different to yours.

Maaaaaaate, don't bask too long in the warm inner glow of your own reflection please !!!

So basically what your saying O.U. (correct me if I'm wrong) is that there is a correct & proper avenue in place for the Clubs if they have an issue with anything to do with you blokes or for that matter any gameday umpiring issue in general ? And that if any of our clubs have a "genuine" issue, regarding umpires then they should go through the correct channels when raising it ???...........Then -

Let me ask you this question O.U............Do you think it right or appropriate that any R.D.F.L. Coach, Club Official or Player should be able to come onto this Forum and be critical of you umpires in ANY way shape of form ???

Timmy rath umpired twos gf last year and his son played in that..personally I don't have a problem with it, it's just a cop out for clubs looking to make excuses for not getting the rub of the green..

That was NOT a senior game.............& Tim's sons side lost that game anyway........... I don't know of WHAT relevance your comment is ment ??? o_O

Actually was 2 years ago and they won. That aside, Tim Rath is one of the best umpires we have ever had i like many others would never question his integrity because we know what sort of bloke he is.

Rockbank look like they may get 6 th spot long way to go but surprised how well they won or is macedon that bad ?

Wallan still have the softest draw, wouldn't wanna drop another one like yesty though. Even that could potentially bite them on the bum

My apologies there "Dismayed" I thought you were talking about a different situation.
I have just looked at that fixture and the two senior umpires that day were Michael O'Keeffe & Paul Phillips. I don't see any O'Keefe's in the Lancefield or Kilmore line ups but I do see 2 Phillips lads playing for Kilmore. Are they related ??? And if so what are you suggesting ???........Kilmore did after all lose the game ! o_O

I've been at 2 games this year where another senior umpire has had sons playing in senior games and it hasn't even been mentioned (or obvious). The fact no one has even realised it says a lot about the bloke in Orange I reckon. Integrity is the key word, as some of you know I umpire our local cricket comp and this year I initially made myself unavailable for the Broadford v Kilmore A-grade decider thru fear of comment from either camp. When an umpire became unavailable for the rest days I was offered it and when I thought it thru more I was confident my integrity would over ride any feelings/emotions towards my old club and the town I've chosen to get involved at.

Perhaps we reduce the league fee's significantly and ask the club's to provide field, boundary and umps for the 3rds and 2nds like they do in the KDFL and even the GVFL some weeks and then see how that goes?

Maybe attitudes may change then.

Calm down champ. Not basking in anything, just pointing out who i am and not hiding behind my alias. 2 weeks is a long time in football. Ask Barry Hall what he thought about my game last week.

There is a correct channel that can be used by officials. As for having an opinion. Everyone is entitled to one, i would just ask for some examples of what we did wrong rather than just say we were pathetic and must be held accountable.

Oh, that's right it was 2 years ago. The Bombers have been in that many finals as a Club I get 'em mixed up sometimes !

I'd back you up there 100% pal on your second statement there too. I actually think Tim's been a bit stiff there not to get the big one on a couple of occasions as well.

Hey mate I'm fine. You do know this is supposed to be anonymous on here for a reason don't you ??? I think its pretty clear for everyone to now see WHY !!!

Correct me if I'm wrong O.U. but doesn't the league have a policy in place regarding the use of social media by Coaches, Club Officials, Players & in fact Umpires ???

I couldn't agree more with your last statement there too pal.

Just in line with comments regarding fathers umpiring their son's, it wasn't a senior game but a reserves gf carries more weight than a lowly senior game..I'm ok with it anyway..

I'm suggesting it is not professional.
Not saying the father did a bad or good job but umpires should not be put in such a position that they can be accused of bias.
In the kilmore/lancefield game the father did a better job than the other umpire.

Umpiring your son in a granny would be a very difficult situation.
Pay a free kick to your son and you get accused of favouritism, pay it against him and get accused of trying too hard to not show favouritism.

I agree its probably not a good look, but I also live in the real world, & in that world we have limited resources (Umpires) & I'm also all for picking the BEST umpires to do our games & if that means an in form Umpire officiates in a game where they have a relative participating, then so be it !!!
I reckon until you have a specific reason or issue to cast aspersions on these blokes good reputations, then I think you should just SHUT the F*** up & let 'em do their job.

Don't get too far ahead of yourself, just aim at going back to back over at Gilbert Gordon next week which can be quite tricky when under water.

That's why I said yesty could even bite them on the bum, especially if Rockbank go two wins up on Melton, Lancefield and Wallan this week based on possible outcomes. Big one in the two's also, Kilmore v Rockbank with both on one win apiece. I would love to see the young Blue Boys get off the bottom for the first time in a season and a bit :p

There you go a well thought out and well constructed comment from a moderator on this site.

If you look at my original post I did not mention a game or umpires just said it looked unprofessional.
You had to reply in your normal manner of name calling before you had the facts.
At no time have time have I bagged Mr Phillips in fact i said he was the better of the two umpires on the day.

How could it look like anything pal,.....If no one even knows about it ???

And yes pal, YOU did not in fact "Bag" Mr Phillips on here.......but instead, just brought the poor blokes whole Umpiring integrity in to question !!!

Oh, & WHERE on here have I EVER done any "Name Calling" ???............................................ Einstein !
