What's everyone's thoughts on the MDFNL ranked 22 and RDFL ranked 28 in inter league football. I always thought rdfl was better standard of football! Am I wrong?
After today's result the RDFL will be going backwards. Great game but disappointing result for the RDFL. Were there many players that made themselves unavailable for the game today?

I don't think much separates the leagues ranked 30-15. Once you get into that top tier you have to be pretty special. The leagues with the strongest interleague culture are the ones that succeed.

Great post!!! Your 100% correct, culture has a lot to do with where a lot of leagues rank in the Vic country championships. I honestly believe that the rdfl is a league that so many people in the past have been found guilty of underestimating the standard.

However it's always the leagues that get commitment from their elite players rather than just the very good that have the better results.

Perhaps tho, by the rdfl leaving out sum of our stars this year for prior non commitments to the inter league program, we may Infact see an elite list of players volunteering their services in the near future

Having been involved in this comp the last 25 yrs as a player and spectator just thought I would offer my thoughts on all clubs and would be interested with others thoughts also.
Broadford - proud club with strong history but this comp aint for them.Due to location have to pay overs in $$$$ to players that often dont deserve much$$ at all. Also stuggle to retain locals which really hurts.Big Baz great for them last year but cant count on him to dig them out of current situation.
Kilmore-similar to Broadford in that likely recruits expect lot more $$$ due to travel and also the fact they have not had much success last 12 yrs.Struggle to retain the better locals hurts badly.Lucky to have a bloke like Goudge but need more of his type.Cant see things improving up there in a hurry.
Melton-been in comp 18 yrs with not many highlights but think in time can be a force.Lack consistency but generally a tough physical side.Seem to have a few good u18s which means well for the future.
Macedon-been just an average side for a long time.Consider them to be a soft team in general and often lack hardness at the contest.Had a very good list mid to late 90s but been average since. From the outside looking in needs a culture change.
Rockbank-been in comp 16???? yrs without much success .Seem to be getting more competetive but struggle to retain good players for multiple seasons.A physical team with a few special supporters also.
Woodend-good club with good juniors but due to not paying $$$$ struggle to retain and recruit.Always hard to beat at home.2 flags in last 13 yrs with one of local footys lowest budget a great effort.
Wallan-after a brief period in Northern league back in the right comp for them.Often have good juniors come through only to lose them due to silly $$$$$ offered by other clubs.Currently have a very good coach players just need to expect more out of themselves and each other.Big Kite has been very impressive with his work rate this yr but needs more help.Again lack consistancy but expect this club to go well next few seasons.
Just my thoughts will do top6 clubs during week

Just watched the game on the net... Cracking contest all day, Alberton moved the ball extremely well.

Thought Chambers performance was exceptional, along with Sammut, Ross, Petroro and Nolan..

The Riddell boys butchered a few early ones they really should have kicked, especially when they had momentum at times, it would have really put a gap in the game, but they just couldn't push the margin out past 16 points.

All in all, a disappointing loss, but plenty to take from it and I am sure the RDFNL squad will bounce back next year.

My concern is that what happens when the next lot of people come along do they do as they please also. We tried telling them in 2008 what would happen but what would we know.

This is seriously jeopardising what was a pretty impressive history, a history that I once cared about. But since it was pointed out on the weekend I'm merely an "ex affiliate" of the club it's best I don't front as people won't like what I have to say.

P.S. I doubt a 17 year old kid would be talking like this :(
you seem quiet upset doona why dont you return to help out.

sounds like the game on saturday was a good one what was teh crowd like

Why don't you pi$$ off!!!

Took the good Mrs to sit me down, as well as a call from probly my best mate Saturday night to both say "just let it go, it will never be what it was when our dads (or us) played" as well as them both reminding me of all the flack I copped when at Yea, as well as the previous 2 years when involved at Kilmore.

I wish the people who I still have relationships with all the best, but to those who have been there since last week's smoko ...... tread carefully

Some big games coming up this weekend! What's everyone's tips for the games?? Can Kilmore notch up there first win against Lancefield??

The Blues will give themselves a real chance in the innaugral Rowe/Swindells Cup clash but personally I think their first win will come after the debut of Paul Harrison in their forward line.

Crump has done a mighty job as a lone hand so far, but if Harro still resembles anything like I saw back in his Bundoora days then there's still a winnable game or two to come for Kilmore before the year winds down.

It should be a good came over at tiger land! You'd like to think Kilmore will come out firing after there last game against Romsey!

What is the Rowe/Swindells cup? When is harro in for his first game?

Tongue in cheek mate, was just a reference to some of the ex Blues juniors to have graced a lancefield park in recent seasons. Could maybe add Wightman to it too seeing Dave is over there this year as an assistant to the coach.

Aww ok fair enough then mate didn't even think of that should have figured that one out haha
Heading over to watch that game? Are those boys still playing over at lancefield?

Doubt I will head over, to be honest I haven't even looked at a Lancefield teamlist so no idea.

Sunbury v Broadford 32 points
Rockbank v Wallan 18 points
Lancefield v Kilmore 51 points
Centrals v Macedon nil all draw
Riddell v Diggers 60 - if it stays reasonably dry
Rupo v Woodend 98 points

Was on ok game that I reckon the RDFL had 55% of the ball but couldn't convert. Crowd was good..not great, but those that were there would have to agree that the venue is the best in the comp for a Grand Final. As good a ground as any in the comp and fantastic facilities now. Best part of it is the huge standing room on the wing area for everyone to gather and have a great view of the game

Football will never be in any way the same as when our dads played
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I hope this is no reference to my comment or my dad

For info I meant the once mighty Broadford FNC not the game of football

Especially when Davo was offered $1500 a game last Thursday/Friday to go to Broadford next year! Like you Doona...it's not gossip, but from the horses mouth

Id offer him double :D
