Assuming the ladder remains the same, you would expect the Romsey v Diggers Rest elimination final to be at Woodend on Saturday and the Woodend-Hesket v Sunbury Kangaroos clash at Riddell.

if woodend finish second, why wouldn't they get home ground advantage for their final. doesn't that happen in this league? this league's weird!

Previously, in the first two weeks of the finals the RDFL's thinking has been to play the games on neutral territory. Obviously the prelim and GF are locked in (which Lancefield made three years running at their home turf). I quite like the idea.

As for Woodend's ground, I heard it was on the improve. To the Hawks' credit they have been fantastic all year in trying to keep it in tip-top condition. Unfortunately the ground's locality means that it will never cope with wet winters. I'm sure if there is significant rain before the final the game will be switched to the standby venue (Romsey).

Assuming the higher ranked sides win, Riddell will play Woodend-Hesket for a grand final berth and the Roos will play Romsey for a crack at the prelim. As Romsey have a second week final, you would assume the Redbacks and Roos will play at Kilmore on the Sunday, and the Bombers and Hawks will play on Saturday at Romsey.

Once again, assuming the higher ranked side wins, you have a prelim involving the Roos and Hawks at Macedon on the Saturday.

IMS, Mongrel and a few others will be filthy because it may affect their bourbon drinking after the match, due to work commitments the following day. :D

when did you become a comedian matt!!!!!

I won't say what I think about Wallan's decision, it's best that I don't. I have spoken to people from the club and will fire out a story tomorrow and give you all a preview.

On to more important things, the Bowen Medal night is just 18 days away people!!! Monday, September 3.

The latest "prospective" odds I'm offering are:

Daniel Bonnici $1.75
Justin Belleville $3.50
Matt Robertson $4.50
Mark McInerney $6
Dave Cornish $8
Shaun Sims $10
Linton Kemp $10
Any unlisted player: $25

Also, people might be interested to see the premiership odds, should TAB Sportsbet be interesting in taking bets on the RDFL.

Riddell $1.70
Woodend-Hesket $2.90
Sunbury Kangaroos $3.20
Romsey $8.50
Diggers Rest $51
Kilmore $101

In a two horse race, Dave Cornish would currently be listed as $1.40 to win the RDFL goalkicking, ahead of Michael Allen at $2.70.

The latest stories are up on www.centralsport.org too fellas.
hey pickle would you take multi-bets on round by round betting?

Was there speakers for and against? What you've said makes sense to me, did it come down to a vote or how was the decision to stay with the DVFL agreed upon?

I missed the meeting on tuesday but i heard the committee made the decision without the captain even there and i dont even think they approached the rdfl to see where their direction is. Last week the players all had a survey on the direction club should be heading and i know for a fact that alot of us senior players wrote to go back to the riddell and our reasons for it. There is alot of players not happy about this and we should be finding abit more out about it tonight. i think their is alot of pros to go back to the league and not many for staying in the nfl. The main problem is that a few people on the committee think we're too good for the rdfl and thats its a step backwards, when the reality is being 2nd last in division 2 and continuing to have a lack of success is really the step backwards

when the reality is being 2nd last in division 2 and continuing to have a lack of success is really the step backwards

if people that are involved in your club cant see this then maybe it is time for them to go. Unless you are going to loose sponsors coming back than to the average joe blow (being me) it would make sense to return.

Correct me if im wrong but wernt wallan beaten by a certain 4th placed side in the rdfl this year and quite convincingly in a practice match? that hardly sounds like dominating stuff :thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

yeah exactly romsey beat us by about 8 goals or so, but had a talk to the president and vice president tonight about tuesdays meeting and what they said it is that a whole new committee that will be coming in at our agm in about a months time and then we'll go from there. so there hasnt been any decisions set in concrete yet as they said they cant make a decision on behalf of the club as they wont be here next yr. the whole club will have to decide where to go once their is a new committee in place.

I hope that if the new committee change the decision, it is not too late to approach the RDFL.

Best way to do it is put it to the membership at your AGM & let the members vote on it.

any big inclusions from teams this week. any reports that will shape the finals set up or injuries. another intersting week in football. stuff the divisions and keep the rdfl as it is. it continues to improve.

I wrote this earlier in the week for the RDFL website:

WITH just two rounds to go in the Essendon Nissan Cup home and away season, the final picture is beginning to take shape as the door for the top five begins to close.
There are many questions on the minds of RDFL fans at the moment, but none bigger than these four.

  • Who will finish fifth, Kilmore or Diggers Rest?
  • Can Romsey sneak into the top-three?
  • If so, who drops out, Woodend-Hesket or Sunbury Kangaroos?
  • Will Riddell make it a three-peat of senior premierships?
While a lot can change in the next fortnight, I think Diggers Rest will finish fifth, Romsey should remain in fourth position, and Riddell will go on to defeat Woodend-Hesket in the grand final.
Sunbury Kangaroos are more than capable and are also deserved of a grand final berth this year, but from what I have seen this year, the Hawks are slightly ahead of the Boardman Reserve boys.
Romsey have the ability to beat any side on their day, with match winners such as Brydan Morgan, Steve Burlak, Matt McLellan and Ryan Connellan in the line-up, but have yet to show their best form against the top-three sides this year. They have the opportunity to do so in the next fortnight against Riddell and Woodend-Hesket.
Diggers Rest is the smoky of the competition and could upset a couple of sides if they make the finals.
They still possess a gun midfield and some handy talls, but haven’t been able to kick big scores against the better opponents. If they catch a side slightly off their game, you can be sure the Burra will pounce.
Kilmore, for all their brilliance in passages of games this year, have been disappointing for mine.
There are stages in matches when the Blues look capable of beating anyone, including Riddell, only to see a lacklustre 10 minutes to see the four points slip away.
Of the current top-five sides, Kilmore has defeated just Romsey and Diggers Rest. If the Blues were to sneak into the finals, I can’t see them going any further than the elimination final.

Last Saturday’s matches saw some interesting results. While there were no upsets, clubs such as Rockbank and Melton Central should take pride in their performances.
The Rams were within a goal of Riddell at three-quarter-time only to be beaten in the last term, while Centrals led Sunbury Kangaroos at the main break.
Rockbank and Melton Central, along with Lancefield, have been the feel-good stories this year.
While it is great to see Sunbury Kangaroos continuing their march for their first ever senior RDFL flag, the Rams, Centrals and Tigers have all improved dramatically since 2006.
Those three sides may get the odd thumping from time to time, but opposition clubs have recognised their improved competitiveness as the season has progressed.
Should these clubs continue to improve next year, it is not impossible that they could sneak into the finals.
Smart recruiting over the summer period, a good pre-season, and a positive attitude to 2008 could be the difference in what is expected to be the RDFL’s closest and most even year for over a decade.

This weekend features two crackerjack matches. The match of the round is simply the Riddell v Romsey clash.
The Bombers are in rare form and appear to be cruising towards the finals, but Romsey will travel to Riddells Creek confident of causing an upset to break into that elusive top-three.
If Jason Allen gets the gig on Steve Burlak, the matchup will be worth the $6 admission price alone. You can also expect to see Justin Belleville and Brydan Morgan go toe-to-toe in the centre, and low-profile Romsey defender James Moore to get the gig on Michael Allen.
I can’t see the Bombers being beaten in this clash, but you just wouldn’t write off the Redbacks.
The other ripper match will be at MacPhersonPark, where Melton Central will be aiming for win number four against Diggers Rest.
There is plenty of incentive for the Burra too. Should they win, they will almost certainly play finals. Should they lose, they will almost certainly miss out.
Centrals coach Mark Greenshields doesn’t have a long list to pick his best 22 from each week, but he does have a committed group. Brian Wheelahan simply leads from the front and will be in my top 15 or 20 players by the year’s end.
The key for Melton Central will be to break even in the centre and hope that their key position players can dominate the Burra’s.
It should be ripping contest, and Kilmore fans will no doubt be barracking for the home side to keep their finals hopes alive.

My tips for this weekend are:
Riddell to beat Romsey by 15 points.
Diggers Rest to beat Kilmore by 8 points.
Sunbury Kangaroos to beat Lancefield by 54 points.
Kilmore to beat Macedon by 75 points.
Woodend-Hesket to beat Rockbank by 85 points.

Dont expect to see B.morgan til finals time (hamstring/hip) and is it true that MC gun player and captin (Wheelan) incurred an AC joint injury last weekend putting him in huge doubt for this weeks clash against the burra

Believe Coles is out for Riddell for last 2 games also with a hamstring.

Harry's Happenings

Well, it's that time of the week again when Harry gets his thinking cap on gives averyone a piece of his mind!!

Round 17

Woodend Heskett v Rockbank

The Rams took it right up to Riddell last week and will be looking forward to another big clash this weekend. The question needs to be asked about last weeks game, did Riddell take the foot off the pedal or did the Rams genuinely step up to the plate? In my opinion I think it was a little bit of both. Rockbank have improved out of sight this year and although they only have the 2 wins on the board they have been competitive in a number of other clashes. This week willl see the Rams venture up to Woodend, but not to Gilbert Gordon oval, they'll be going to Buffalo Stadium. This is effect will nulify, somewhat, the home ground advantage as the Hawks won't be used to playing there. The Hawks will be too strong this week with their onball brigade controlling the game from go to whoa. Harry's Tip: Woodend by 10 goals.

Lancefield v Sunbury Kangaroos

Many may think that this game will be like lambs to the slaughter house, but I on the other hand, think that this game will be a little closer. The Lancefield mid-field is as good as any on their day and easily make opposition players look very silly. Conway is at his best at the moment and will need to be if he is going to tackle both James and Cuffe. The problem for Lacefield is when Conway has a rest there is no one to fill his role adequately. Mark Caton moves into the ruck and while he can be competitive, he is not at the standard required to win the ball. The Roos will have all of their guns up and about on Saturday and will want to absolutely smash the Tigers. They will need to smash the Tigers if they want a chance of getting second spot or stoping the possibility of them dropping to fourth. Helmers, Bonicci, James, Cuffe, Ploog, McInerny x 2. I think that may be enough said. Harry's Tip: Sunbury by 7 goals.

Melton Centrals v Diggers Rest

Centrals have nothing more to play for except the thrill of denying another side of a finals birth. I have been in that position before and the mind set you take out onto the field is what have we got to lose? The answer: nothing, but we can take down the other mob!!! These games are dangerous for the side that really needs to win. Diggers have a better side on paper but early form this year has put them into a "must win" situation. The last time these 2 played each other the Burra got home by 5 goals, at home. Not really that convincing. The Centrals boys play their ground very well forcing the opposition to play the far wing for much of the day. Wheelahan has been at his best, although if some rumors are true he may miss this one. Should he miss the Burra win by 8 goals. Should he play, I still think the Burra will win but by how much. I'm going to base my tips on Wheelahan playing. Harry's Tip: Diggrs by 3 goals.

Riddell v Romsey - MATCH OF THE ROUND

This game is set to be an absolute ball tearer!! The Redbacks are always very competitive on Riddell's ground and this week should be no different. If the Redbacks can do the unthinkable and knock off the Bombers, it will give them a red hot crack at third spot and a double chance in the finals. I'm unsure of where Billylid got his information from, but I would expect Morgan to play this week. The battle will be won in the middle. Belville and Blade v McLellan and Morgan. This should be an absolute cracker, along with Connellan v Burnett in the ruck. There is no denying the Bombers dominance of the league this year with solid performers all across the ground. The Redbacks will need to nulify the Bomber's goal kicking options if they are to come away with a win. Look out for Warren Kairns on Michael Allen. Harry's Tip: Romsey by 5 points.

Macedon v Kilmore

Not too much can be said about this game. Macedon need to win to get off the bottom of the ladder and the Blues need to win to keep their finals hopes alive. Robbo will dominate this game with plenty of back up from Kemp and Duffy. Cornish will kick 10. The bright side for Macedon is that they have only 2 games to go and then they can concentrate on next year. The kids they have blooded this year will be much better next year for the experience. Harry's Tip: Kilmore 15 goals.

Short and sharp this week gents. Good luck to all those pulling them on this week-end:thumbsu::thumbsu:
