Harry, when was robbo out of the side for kilmore?
I was lead to belive his missed last week with the flu. Perhaps I misread it. Apologies.![]()
Good stuff Harry... But hold onto this glory.. You will soon be brushed aside for the "Newcomer"... All your hard work will come to nothing...![]()
if by necomer you mean Mike Lyon i have to agree IMS very good analysis by Mike and from reading his review he is pretty much spot on which begs the questions who is this Mike Lyon
Pickles, just wanting to know who gathered all of the info for the mid year record. I was having a llok at it last night and noticed that the Romsey coach was listed as being Kevin Fitzgerald. Also no mention of Ryan Connellan or Luke Edwards in the team lists, and everyone's numbers were all over the place. I would have thought a glance over some team sheets may have been the best idea to get the info correct.
As a whole, it's a great record. Well done to those involved.
And by the way, great post Mike. Very accurate.![]()
I'm not sure exactly but it could be that Romsey committee didn't send in the information, so it had probably had to done by the league. If that is true, poor form from Romsey really.
Can't see why every other club can supply netball and footy team lists. If it is to be a regular thing next year (every round) then all clubs have to support it and supply the correct information.
I agree Matt, however, I don't know the process behind how this gets put together. If the club was to supply the info, then yes, poor form. However, it doesn't take a "Mike Lyon" (genius) to know who the coaches are, surely some form of poetic licence is accepted to change some of the info prior to going to print![]()
I think it would be great for the footy record to be put out every week and I'm sure all clubs would fully support it. Do you think it would be the same publication across the board and just have the middle pages i.e. team lists specific to the location of where you purchased it, much like the AFL? Whatare your thoughts, anyone?
I like the idea of having an across the board publication each week, only issue for clubs would be cost I suppose.. The question is, is our league big enough to handle its own weekly record yet??
My answer would be that I would hope so....
As a newspaper person, the league could easily run a publication each week.
Now I don't know exact costs, but I'm guessing once the set up is complete, and a template is created, it would cost around $1500 per week to print.
With 5 home games each week, that is just $300 per fortnight for a club. If each club sold 150 at $2, they would make there money back. If clubs could get sponsorship in the record, the price they would pay for the records would be dropped (a guess).
If it isn't there every week, then people won't know to buy it. It would soon become a must read. The RDFL would obviously get its own sponsors to cover the costs of a media officer or such to write for it and run it, so it would not be making a profit from the clubs.
Harry, perhaps not changing some of the player details and coaching staff could be used as a wakeup call to make sure they get the info into the league on time.
That is a very well rounded thought process Pickles, I truley like your style. And yes it could be used as a wake up call, a point well made.
P.S - You still owe me a pot and parma.
Just a heads up on the meaning of next week...
We have several players represented Damien Niki, Danny Miskin, Leigh and Mark McInerney, Stuart and Donald Davis and James House...

How bout we have a parma and pot at the pub after the Romsey v Kilmore clash?
Also, for those interested, I'm thinking of expanding my horizons in summer, taking a step back from cricket and writing a history book on the RDFL since 1945 (post war). Not set in stone yet, but the last league book is now out of date and I think the Riddell League history should be published before it goes on too longer and we lose key pieces of information.

Sounds like a fine plan to me Pickles. By the way, the book sounds like a great idea. It warms my heart to now fully understand that you truley are "the man of league and for the league". Perhaps we could arrange a "Pickles for all seasons" calendar as a fund raising opportunity to fund this fine publication?![]()
Estimating printing costs at $500 for printing, and selling two calendars at $10 a piece (my granparents will buy one each), you're looking at losing $480.
Don't sell yourself short PicklesI've seen some of the images of the lovely young ladies that have frequented the Pickles Pad in the past, and they are well above par.

Maybe get a calendar of league personalities? Eric Garwood the boundary ump, Simmo bros.Little Daniel the central ump etc.. could be a good chance for the league to have a laugh at itself.
