The umpires do their best to do the best job. Sure, everyone has issues with different people, but the umpires do their best every week not to let issues influence the way they umpire a game, I believe this is the case in generally all cases.. Umpires get paid a pittance to umpire, they dont deserve the abuse they sometimes cop. Their job will always be made harder by the abuse of players etc. Remember that next time you go to open that monsterous trap of yours to abuse one of them, maybe if you just keep the lips sealed the next decision will go your way...

I think overall the umpires in our comp do a mighty job, sometimes I get frustrated and annoyed with decisions, but that is beauty of our wonderful games, the human error that creates excitement and controversy...

If the decision is there the right one should be made by the umpire no matter who opens their trap! Too often the umpires are wrong, that's why people get so frustrated.

It's a well known fact the RDFL cannot get any decent umpires and hasn't for years. The umpires should be held accountable for their bad decisions, decisions that could cost teams games and ultimately premierships. If you get paid to do a job, like me, you either do it properly or don't do it at all. I would think that if you get hit, not one but twice in the head in a contest that you should be given a free kick and sometimes frustration kicks in and things get out of hand. "Do it right or don't do it at all"

Or this could be a good way to start "His" Defence Also !

I'de just like to thank every Umpire that was out in that Arctic Crap we call Winter on Saturday doing their best, so as people like me can sit in my heated car & be entertained.
Yes they get paid, but some days it just cant be enough !

Again, the wrong attitude.. Umpires will pay the free kick if they see the decision.. If they dont, they didn't see it, bad luck.. There is absolutely no reason to pot these guys for having a go.. like I said, frustration will creep in on a Saturday, have your say, move on.. Its simple... The easiest part of it all... Dont use the word cheat, surely everyone would have picked up on this the minute Grub was rubbed out.. Time to use the noggin folks...

I understand "they do their best" but again human nature can sometimes get in the way of a clear decision and "in generally all cases" is not all of them.. Do umpires not know that there is a risk of getting abused and getting paid a pittance before they decide to take up their decision to umpire? When I go to a game and pay to get in I don't think I should have to walk away on a regular basis and say "those umpiring decisions ..." and my monsterous trap from the sidelines should make no difference to the decisions being made!!!! And yes the beauty of our game is the excitement and controversy but it is constantly being ruined by bad decisions.

Ridiculous.. Have you ever picked up a whistle and attempted to umpire, in any sport? Its a difficult experience.. The umps do the best job they can do, and realistically, if you dont enjoy the display put on by the sides or the umpires, go and watch a different league, im sure most in our league would be generally pretty happy with the level of performance put in by the men in orange, it is only the minority that have to carry the baggage of a performance well after the final siren has blown..

How did collins go from Lancefield last week? Wadden to go for a few. Also heard there were many injuries from up to five teams last weekend. Any news from clubs/players. Are they long term? This could have a bearing on finals chances

Obvious...Would I be correct in presuming you are in fact an umpire?

i have tried umpiring once n only once, when i was in yr 12 at assumption i umpired a match between the yr 10s vs PEGs, it was totally different 2 playing, sometimes even remembering to blow the whistle for ball ups, quite a difficult experience, and then having the yr 10s who knew me whinging if they didnt get free kicks. im a harsh critic of umpires i know that, but they do their best. i will never umpire again haha

I'm sure someone on this forum has contact details of the RDFLUA. Can they please pass it onto doitright and harvey01. I'd love to pay addmission to see these two "get it right" on a constant basis

Anyone can give us a team run down on injuries ie-suspensions. Heard there are many from last weekend. Any news from clubs?

No suspensions from the Romsey v Digger match that Harry knows of. Nor were there any injuries. There was a huge clash of heads that saw a player from both sides receive cuts to their eyebrows. Lots blood. Geez it was good, both players going straight at the pill. I don;t like to see people get hurt but that was courageous footy at it's best. Great Stuff:thumbsu:

Sorry Dpagan, can't comment on any other games, I wasn't there.

I am an umpire in the RDFL and have been for about 10 years. Not once in that time have I paid a free kick against someone because I didn't like them. Umpiring is a reaction sport. You see something, you pay a free kick. How quick our game is you don't have time to think about your decision. You see a hand hit a head; you blow the whistle and pay the free kick. You don't see a hand hit a head look at the team/player and go ummmmmm nah don't like that player/team so its 'play on'. Our game is way too quick to be able to cheat.
