calder cannons would not beat sunbury lions seniors...simply because its still junior football yes there may be kids there who play seniors but they dont have the protection of senor men with experience...the likes of griffo and serge would physical dismantle any 18 yr old kid....putt is a wimp and is only there (cannons) cause of the fact that he is 200 cm...pat carris would smash him all over the ground...not to mention the jamie lobbs and the ross slights, the daniel sahlbergs....who would match up on houlahan and beattie and stop train and brett chambers and others are ex cannons with senior football experience....just because its tac cup football doesnt mean it matches up to top senior football...

They pump the TAC up massively, but i have no doubt that a Riddell or Woodend would match them, im not saying they'd win but they wouldnt get pumped, and a Sunbury lions would beat them. The physical side of things would intimidate alot of those players! They are used to running the ball, but if you slow the game down, and play a more physical game, alot of them would be intimidated.

You play them on a bog heap like Woodend and the senior side would win, but put the young kids on a big ground like Sunbury Lions' or Macedon early in the year when thegrounds are firm the kids would win. Reason being is that they would have the open space to run and carry the ball. Not many sides would be fit enough to stay with them for 4 qtrs.
hey guys nows that we are coming to the pointy end of the season, just a quick qn, if for some reason that each of the top 5-6 teams got lets say 5 injuries, which teams would have the depth to cover them.
lets say an injury from each section, backline mids and fowards.

so are we starting with a full compliment of players or the current team as of this round - 5 injuries.. Youd have to say given the strength of the Twos that Woodend would have teh best depth , Riddell Next for obvious reasons , following jointly by Kangas and Diggers and then rounding up to Romsey. I will obviously know more about Kilmore this week as i will watch both Ressies and senior games with great interest....
cvurrant team from this week would be better as it would give a true indication as to where everyone is at if injuries do strike.
thats fairly true, although not to sure about the player depth at riddell, if the bombers did get a couple of key injuries to key players it dosent look as though they would have the cattle to cover where as WH would id say.
so who would be the lucky players to maybe step up in the latter rounds in injuries did strike your teams out there???

this is for more of the diggers guys on here, spoke to person who dosent play but has a li bit to do with the club, is it true that the players in the twos team dont wana play senior footy coz the 2's team is travellinh ok and it looks like they wont play finals in the ones?

i dont know who your so called contact is at the club but id be very surprised if any 2nds player at diggers let alone at any club didnt strive to play senior football. Yeah finals football is a great experience but i think if any one has pride in themselves theyd be lying if they didnt say that just get as much enjoyment playing the highest level as well (which is senior football)

But one that has really caught the eye is the Sunbury Lions to the EDFL topic.
Very interesting indeed, but Mike can see some clear hurdles in this apparently "Done and Dusted" deal of the Lions changing leagues.
First of all, For the Lions to change league's they will require a vote of no less than 70% of its members at an AGM to do so.
If this happens and is passed by the majority, then the Lions need to make an application to the EDFL expressing an interest in joining the league. The EDFL clubs would then vote if they would like to include the Lions into their competition. Already several possible hiccup's that could cause the Lions to abandon their done and dusted plan.
The Lions would be required to enter the competition through B Grade, a move that the current people at Sunbury would be highly unlikely to be in favour of. They would also need to bring junior sides with it. To bring the junior clubs the Lions would require a vote of all members of the junior club at their AGM voting in favour, they would then be required to make an application to the EDFL to join the junior competition as they are a SEPERATE operating unit to the Senior club. The junior club would then need to make an application to the RDFL to leave the competition, a vote would be required and Mike is not too sure that the RDFL would be too keen to have them depart. To get around this, the Lions could start their own junior side, that could not be called the Sunbury Lions Junior Football Club, due to the name already being registered and used. They would then have to establish teams using local junior players, a tough ask already without having them travel to EDFL games.
So it seems that there is a little more to the "done and dusted" "announcement on Monday" Sunbury Lions to the EDFL move. I would think that the Lions are a long ways away from this occuring.
And take it from Mike, It wouldn't be shocking for the talk of RDFL division 1 and 2 to be reborn and discussions to take place. Anything is possible.

With the way you used to play footy im not sure if your in a position to be having a crack at someone because they play 2's. I reckon he's made some very valid points regarding size, strength and the intimidation factor.

Correct, ive never played senior footy (like a lot of blokes on here) if that makes me a nobody so be it. I just reckon its pretty weak to have a crack at a bloke because he had an opinion and plays 2's footy.

I think we are getting away from the issue of bagging two's players.
Lets say.... for instance, someone like the young fella from Riddell, James Climas wanted to try his hand at the VFL and had to spend some time in and out of Riddell seniors and Bendigo's two's. Would you pot the young bloke for playing two's and trying to work his way into the Bendigo senior side ? I think not ! Thats all carn the pup is trying to do !
