I agree that Riddell were also a good side then, Gisborne won 3 flags in a row and were clearly a cut above the rest. The point I'm making now is the top sides in the RDFL would still need a number of players imported to become competitve. That's saying that since then Gisborne have not fallen away at all and the RDFL sides have. Don't worry about Riddell, still very highly respected in Harry's eyes. A loss to the Bombers in 2005's GF has left a big hole of hurt in Harry's guts. I still owe you guys one. Perhaps this is the year!!
Harry,
You'll find that Riddell also won 3 successive flags, 1 in Div 2 and 2 in Div 1. I'm an ex-blues player and played against them both so I hear what your saying.

What are your thoughts on Gisborne, Sunbury and co rejoining the RDFL. Wouldnt you love just one more crack at Gissy old mate ?

I THINK IT WOULD BE FANTASTIC.from a personal point of view i would love to play in a good standard again.but i wanna play with my mates,so this would be the ideal scenario.
as for wanting another crack at gisborne:),YES i would for sure.but i am a realist.i doubt whether id have the impact i used to have.perhaps they are a bit out of my league nowadays.but im sure the physical side of things would be fairly even.i just miss the days of a gissie vs sunbury blockbuster etc.they were the glory days for this league in recent years

Bring them back for a trail year! Whats the worst that's going to happen? They'll win another flag:D!! Give it a crack, see what happens, you don't know till you try......

I am sitting North of Melbourne. Mike Lyon is West of Melbourne.

However, Bendigo is also North West of Melbourne, as is Swan Hill and Mildura. Read my above post. Why should we change the name? The league hasn't got a bad reputation to need to change it.

but the areas you mention here are country areas, our league is a metro league so it would be the north west of the metro comps, i'm a fan of AFL north west think it would lift the profile of the competition to have the afl brand incorporated into the name.

just a thought though guys, looking at it from an umpires perspective, if the competition was going to expand to 2 divisions, how is the umpires association going to cover all of these games? at the moment we cover 10 senior appointments (all 2 umpire systems), 10 reserves appointments, and 8 18's appointments and thats just field umpires in the riddell league, and its a stretch, if the 2 divisions do occur that will expand to 18 senior appointments, 18 reserves appointments and a similar amount of 18's appointments which is a massive burden on an already stretched resource.

You'll just have to umpire three games in a day my boy. Will the doggies get up tonight? They were shiesenhausen last week

Nah you have to be fit to do senior games, and I can't be arsed.

Plus, I cop enough abuse from my writing, no need to start umpiring on Saturdays.

Great win by the Burras yesterday.Didnt look too good @ 1/4 time (42pts down) but Woodend played pretty good footy in the first qtr .Fitzy was still very positive @ 1/4 time .29pts down @ 3/4 time ,could have been less as diggers missed some pretty easy shots late in 3rd qtr .I honestly did not think that we could bridge the gap ,but I will probably cop plenty of flack at our Last Man Standing due today.Riddell nxt week ,we have actually won up there the last 2 years so it could be interesting .Also enjoy having a beer with Bowser & scooter no matter the result.Must go and put my drinking boots on now .:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Exactly what Kilmore couldnt afford, Diggers to win - Kilmore season finished

Diggers - Riddell this week. The burra on a roll and a massive chance to topple last years premiers this week. What odds can we get Matt??

Sunbury back in winning form. Mongrel - Any reports from the game? How did the roos play?

Seems everyone has written the Blues off - word I got Friday night says no one will take them seriously until they match it with a side above them. Well I say no better time for the Blues to earn that respect when their finals series starts this week.

Time to stand up and be counted boys, see who can play finals like footy? Get behind Tezza on the track and turn up to play at Romsey like ya lives depend upon the outcome. Potential is the most dangerous word we have in footy, but IMO if everyone actually plays to their capablities you just might astound yourselves.

I'm not giving up on the Blues just yet :thumbsu:
