Disapointed in the lack of knowledge shown by a few so called experts in this league in reference to Woodend FC players. Else has had a poor season and has been tried in variuos positions, Johno has never played on a wing in his life and even though you might want to fit him in he must be on ball or on bench (akin to Pavlich being picked at FB a few years ago when he never played a game there), Stace started year well but has dropped due to injury and fitness level, Dowling been good but not sure about Team of Year.
Hardwick been best defender all year, Sipthorpe would have to make it in even after missing firsst 8 weeks & Banger Donovan (gun) will probably win their B & F yet no-one has mentioned him.
So come on experts dont just stick to players you know have been good in past, look closely at their form this year.[/quote]

Stongly agree Roy:thumbsu:

Without trying to be biased, I would have thought that Warren Kairns of Romsey would be by far the best full back in the league although Pickles seems to think Else is the man for the job. That is the second time he has put him in in front of Kairns. As I recall Kairns was the Full Back of the year last year? Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, tuff call on Connellan not getting a birth as the ruckman. He has been clearly the dominant ruckman of the year, not just in the middle or at stoppages but taking the big contested marks around the ground. Apart from that I pretty much agree with all of those selected.

No doubt Kairns is doing a great job but Else has just got the nod this time. Connellan got towelled by James at Sunbury and hasn't been as devastating this year as previous seasons. There are a lot of good ruck candidates this year which is great.

Agree with Matt here Harry.. There have been some superb ruckman running around this year.. I would have to say Spudda James though... Best I have seen this year.

Look at the list of names though..

R.Connellan (Rom)
P.Conway (L)
R.Bedford (K)

C.Thompson (DR)
M.Krul (RB)
R.Toholka (Mac)

All have played some pretty impressive games in the ruck this year.... :thumbsu:

Its not always the backs faults when scored against. Most scoring would be the result of midfield plays. As for mike lyon and a mask I have a feeling he may well need a cape of sorts(in a large size) to fully mask his identity.

forgive me if i'm wrong, as relatively new to the area, but i'm pretty sure it's been established in the past that mongrel is dean helmers. now i'm not doubting this guys ability, but there is such a thing as modesty - let someone else nominate you.

if i am wrong and mongrel is not dean helmers, again, sincere apologies.

It is duck, but what you have to look at is, Dean in his younger days was a very, very good footballer! To be drafted is a big achievement, and yes, he does have his critics. The fact he has put his name down, means nothin, it's something everyone else already knows, he doesn't have to prove himself anymore! He stuck round when most pissed off, and although most will say he was the best in the comp, because it was crap and terrible, and he would not have stood out as much in a better comp, well he stuck round, and is one of the reasons it is was what it is today!

He was first picked for most things back in the day, and im not using a straw here, but most people don't understand how much he does behind the scence's for the young kids! Me personally, he has helped my football very much and will continue to!

You owe me beers for this!:thumbsu:
